The Sweet Meet - Dis'ers do Hershey

OK, Greg and I seem to have fallen pages and pages behind on the sweet meet plans. Now there's talk of beer and snacks - now that's the kind of stuff we're interested in!! Skip the grandsons, maybe we can just drive down.

In a nutshell, what are the basic plans???

Are people going to the park, or just sitting around the pool indulging in adult beverages????

We live about 2 hours away, but compared to others, it's virtually in our backyard!

Are people going to the park, or just sitting around the pool indulging in adult beverages????

•Laissez faire group dinner at Fuddruckers on Friday (6ish)
•Some are doing the evening preview
•Some are taking a trolley tour
•Some are drinking/socializing by the pool

I don't think we have established a time to meet at the park or a game plan to attack it yet, but I assume it will be near 'rope drop' and semi-commando/whatever way the wind blows.:goodvibes

Then perhaps more pool/drink time Saturday night and most folks are heading home on Sunday.

Todd is spot on with current plans.

The last trolley tour on Friday is 7:45pm so we would to finish Fuddrucker's early enough to get to Chocolate World and sign up for the last tour.

If we don't have time for the trolley, then some time at CW and either:

  • Resort pool time / adult beverages w/snacks
  • 7:30pm entrance for Friday park preview

There could be other options.

For Saturday we'll have to agree on a meeting time. The park opens at 10am. Not sure what would be too early to head to the park. :confused3

I'm guessing those staying at the Comfort Suites will do the complimentary breakfast. I'm guessing around 8:00am or so, probably earlier.

We'll have to agree on something. :)

George,

Do you have your timing and route worked out yet? You head right by us on the way west and we thought we might follow along for a little more fun.

I am considering making a detour waaaayy east to join this caravan. Sounds like the fun is going to start early?!! :cool1:

Hi Scott. Somewhat planned out right now. I have three plans of attack right now. Plan to leave about 7 am. Mass Pike about 7:30 or so.

  • A) Follow the GPS to the letter.
  • B) Google Maps - Recommended Route 361mi/6 hrs.
  • C) Google Maps - Avoid GWB/95 - 385 mi / 6 hrs 20 min

I have been mapping lately, as Kat said. :surfweb:
We are looking at hooking up with George, Deb and Alan for breakast in the Hartford, MA area and convoying it across to Hershey. :car::car:
Here is my proposed route, which as George states above, avoids New York traffic and the GWB/95. (I have started on the MASS TP to hide the Most Interesting Man's HQ) :rolleyes1

The only difference from George's (which mine will not get as low as 6hrs) is that this route(6hrs19mins) shows up as 3 mins shorter than the google suggested route (6hrs21mins), which I feel may be a traffic nightmare Friday morn/afternoon going right through NYC.
I'm not too worried about the 3 minutes, but NYC could make things much longer if anyone should be changing a tire on the shoulder. :lmao:
But then again, George knows that area better than I, so maybe he has a shortcut somewhere.

Looking at all these directions and maps make me happy this adventure is close to home.

My route is a bit easier. :goodvibes

Go from work to the airport

And then there is this route, which comes up as 6hrs32mins (from the MIM's HQ) which could include a meeting with certain people coming in from NE NY.
Just sayin'.

I just found out my Mom is visiting my brother in DC on this weekend and wants up to come at the same time. There is a chance, however very small, that we might be in the area and can take a day trip to Hershey! Keep your fingers crossed.

If memory serves, this is a more mountainous route.:confused3 (See siggie, and then let out a yodel.)

Seeing y'all twice in consecutive months?!?!? That would rock!

John we'll have to come up with a spot to meet/stop at between Hartford and the CT/NY border. Maybe Scott, Pam, and Otto, will be interested as well? I'm guessing somewhere along Rt 84.

None of the planned routes will take us through NYC. Outskirts yes. I have no issue taking a slightly longer route to avoid traffic delays.

And bear in mind I'm a stickler for "keeping moving". If folks need to make multiple stops you might just have to meet us there. :rolleyes1

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: (Just ask Deb!) :rotfl2:

Seems like being able to attend is getting better. My boss is considering my vacation request and my DH(who had a long commute) has requested off on 8/13. Just need to find someone to watch the dog. Since I didn't book at the group rate, once my vaca. request is granted, I will use Priceline.
My kids are looking forward to going to Hersheypark and riding the coasters.

I haven't fully committed to this yet....but SO glad to know that I'll know 2 people!!! :woohoo:

Lois & Phyllis, didya each other was going?? :goodvibes

We are heading south from the Springfield area on 91 that morning, joining up with 84 at Hartford, that's why I said Hartford. Any ideas for a meet up spot? Will you be into breakfast or will you have had it by then? I am with you on the straight through thing, but I feel a bathroom break may be in the cards at some point. Deb? I know Kat will. I can hold it for hours.

Crossing our fingers for you! Wouldn't that be great if it worked out???

Lois, I hope you and Greg can make it!!!

Fingers and toes crossed. If not, we'll just have to live with Flattie Don and the same fruity shirt he's been wearing since CA.

Holy Moly:scared1:

so much has happened!!!!

Greg - are you checking this out????

Come on Lois! You should know this group by now.....crazy but totally harmless.

Yeah, breaker one-nine, this here's the Rubber Duck, you got a copy on me Pigpen? C'mon.
Ah yeah, ten-four Pigpen, for sure, for sure. By golly it's clean clear to Flagtown. C'mon.
Yeah, that's a big ten-four there Pigpen. Yeah, we definitely got the
front door good buddy. Mercy sakes alive, looks like we got us a convoy...

To be honest John I think we'll have some breakfast type things in the car so we will not need to stop. It might be best that we just share #'s and see where we in relation to each other on the way down. Personally I'm all about getting there ASAP but if a stop along the way works that is great. :thumbsup2

We'll also check with Scott because our routes will be close to identical depending on what he chooses. A little further for me though. :car:
