The Sweet Meet - Dis'ers do Hershey

Does anybody who's attending have teen-age kids. My grandsons are 13 and 15 and I'm considering bringing them for the weekend. (Don't worry yet Greg....I told you, they're good when they're out in publc ;) )

I am pretty sure we can make it that weekend.

That hotel should be good. I haven't look at it yet, but we always stay in Harrisburg when we go to Hershey.

That's great Anne - looking forward to seeing you.

I've gotten a few responses from hotels regarding group discounts. I've gotten some offers for lower-end prices for some hotels that that I don't think any of us would really want to stay at. I've also gotten some higher-end prices for hotels that don't really fit our group needs.

There are a few groups rates that are of interest in addition to the first hotel that I posted about.

I narrowed our choices down to those hotels that gave a broader cancellation/booking window, and no deposit needed. I also included only those with free breakfast and internet.

Comfort Inn at the Park
Hershey, PA
This hotel is probably the closest, but more expensive - $157/night

Comfort Suites Hershey - $129/night
Hummelstown, PA
This hotel is brand new - looks nice on the website

I missed this some how. I will have my two daughters - 13 and 15 (although then basically 16) with me.

Andrea - first thanks for doing this research.

My preference would be the most economical hotel.

My preference would be the most economical hotel.

I would tend to agree. The one that provides the best value.

•Price point
•Distance to the park
•Breakfast included?

Does this mean you are in on the Hershey Meet?

I'm leaning toward it. =) My BFF lives in Hummelstown and I asked him his views on the hotels.

The Country Inn in Harrisburg is 'much further' from the park than the other two.

His preference would be Comfort Suites. About 3 minutes from the park (5 minutes from his house.)

:dance3::dance3::dance3:I was feeling sad not knowing if there was a chance I would see you anytime soon.

The two most economical choices include breakfast, and are about the same distance (6 miles) from Hershey Park:

Country Inn & Suites @ $109/night
8000 Jonestown Rd
Harrisburg, PA

or

Comfort Suites Hershey @ $129/night
320 Milroy Road
Hummelstown, PA

They are both basically the same distance from Hershey Park. I have read up on both on trip advisor and the only two things that worry me about the first hotel is that people have said that one is in more of a remote location and further away from the main strip of restaurants, and the breakfast area is very small , to the point where they were not able to sit and have breakfast in the morning. The second hotel is also very new so that is a positive.

They both do not need deposits, and reservations can be cancelled by arrival day. Doesn't matter to me which one we go to. I guess it will be put to a good old fashioned vote - unless anyone has a problem with both and don't want to stay at either one.

As I search for decent airfare (to skip a 9 hour drive) I will vote for Comfort Suites. And my BFF would like to tag along, since I will be leaving DP at home. =)

i am not much for group thingys. but i will tell you that the comfort inn which bills itself as at the park is a very nice property. we stayed there a couple years ago rather impromptu, we live 2 hrs away and just did not feel like driving home. also i put my 16 yr old DD, her BFF and BFF's mom up there on new years eve this year as they were doing downtown hersheys version of times square, instead of a dropping "ball" it was a rising "kiss". DD and BFF were really there cause "Honor Society" was one of the musical headliners..............dont ask..............it is actually about 2 miles from the parking lot of Hersheypark and all of the major fast and casual food chains are within a quarter mile. Hersheypark is a very clean operation. if there is one drawback it is that it is hilly. i know that sounds wierd but it is. they built the park as the land lay, it is all paved. chocolate world is adjacent to the park and is very cool and you can really stock up on your candy.

Thanks for the info. I do remember the park as being very hilly. I remember pushing the stroller uphill, alot.... we were with another family who had a double stroller and it didn't look fun for her.

Sounds like while the Comfort Suites may be a little more, it is more convienent - I am okay with it.

Does "out in public" include our corn maze adventures?:confused3

As much as I would LOVE to join you guys, I don't think that we'll be able to...the will most likely be the weekend for my nephew's first birthday party and Auntie Brandie has to be there to make his very first cake! :thumbsup2

We live about a hour away and would like to join in for at least one day of the mini-meet. Just tell us where and when.:cool1:

Oh shoot, that's too bad. First birthdays and cake are very important, so I'm sure we all understand. If anything changes, you know where we'll be ;)

We will keep this thread updated with all the info - probably on the first page of the thread when everything is figured out.

These both look good too. The Comfort Suites looks like it has a large breakfast area which might be nice and new is always good. I do think the Country Inn and Suites is in a remote area. There are not a lot of services up there by 81, at least the last time I was through there. I do love the drive from 81 into Hershey. Lots of farms.

Thank you so much for all this work Andrea. I keep imagining the warm sun of the summer to make it through the winter.
