The Sturgis Bike Rally

starts Monday and the motorcycles are here already...I like the ralley it is a fun time, but it is hard to drive around all those bikes....Every year they get here earlier. and I live 28 miles from the center of it.


Sturgis is a small town in the Black Hills of South Dakota and its population is under 5,000 until the annual bike ralley and the population jumps to over 100,000. it has been going on for over 60 years..http://www.rapidcityjournal.com/content/articles/2003/08/03/front/photo1.jpg

A few years back we were traveling to Yellowstone around the time of the bike rally and it was unbelievable the amount of bikes we seen.

Hey there! Would love to go to Sturgis someday!

I live in Hollister.. we have the West Coast version of the Sturgis motorcycle Ralley over the fourth of July. Hollister is the original site of the incident that was the real life story that inspired the movie "The Wild Ones" with Marlon Brando.
The Hollister Ralley is an annual event too. Harley's Everywhere! This year attendance ran over 110,000. I am sure that many who attended Hollister are now in Sturgis!

My husband and daughter have been to Sturgis twice. They really enjoyed it. They took a tent both times. He only took Kimmi into town during the day. It's a bit tamer then. We love to ride in the Black Hills, it's just beautiful. I like to go when the rally is not on. I don't like all the people.

I live near Milwaukee, which is the home of Harley. This year is the 100 anniversary, and I am not looking forward to the freeway system once the celebration begins!

I know what you mean since I live in Daytona Beach, and Bike Week here (actually now up to 10 days) in March attracts 500,000+ - although the 2000 event was the biggest so far @ 800,000! Then in October it's Biketoberfest, so we really get hit twice a year! Wall to wall bikers! My husband has a Harley so he's in "hog-heaven" during those events lol!
