The star wars spoiler thread

Just because someone gives gifts on Christmas doesn't mean they stay home all day. They could be the group that is going to have a ton of toys under the tree and then go out of a nice family day thinking it will be lower crowds.

I think going out on Christmas is also big for the 18-24 year old crowd. The ones in college who can't make it home and have no one to be with on the day so they find something to do.

Oh...I completely understand...I'm not debating the movies it's just foreign to me.

The inference earlier was that movies are open to serve the melting pot...which seems to be clearly incorrect.

It's just a good/easy option for people on a day when there is buy and large zero real world responsibility.

I've been to the movies on Christmas with my dad and sister simply because in our upper teens/lower 20s we really didn't have much else to do.

My sister used to work in theaters - Christmas was crazy busy. And a large part of that is families who after spending the morning with the family go to the movies. Not much different than watching football or TV shows - other than you are making people work at a movie theater.

Of course, no one complains about the announcers and crew for the football game, or the crew working the TV station, etc. Somebody is working... :)

Now... of course, we have veered largely from the thread topic! :D

So - what happened that R2 shut down? And what woke him up? Did Maz make it out of the battle? How much "repair" is Kylo going to need? Is he going to start becoming cybernetic?

Any why... how... does the "Force" which is a natural power work for things like force chokes via a robotic arm?? That one has always confused me. ;)

I think R2 was shut down by Luke so that no one could get to the map expect someone looking for him for the right reasons. I believe when Rae got to the Resistance base he sensed what was needed and that is what woke him up.

I think Maz made it out since she was in the same area as Chewie and Han.

Kylo is going to need at least a new kidney. I cringed every time he hit his wound to make it bleed or whatever reason he had behind it.

To the last one I have no clue haha. I never thought about that.

Good grief...

Kennedy made comments about the next Star Wars that implied Harrison ford will return...

Oh dear no. Hopefully that was an oversight

Oh jeez. R2 activated when Rey entered the room.

R2 takes his orders from Luke skywalker.

You do the math

I thought perhaps ghost Han but he isn't force sensitive so he wouldn't come back like that. Maybe it is from flashbacks like we saw with Ren and the lightsaber?

I have to be honest in this case I would prefer he stayed dead. I don't mind flashbacks or whatever but when a big character dies I like them to stay dead. None of this soap opera stuff where no one is ever really dead.

That's what I was getting at. He awakened due to Rey. Even if people don't buy into the plot lines that Rey is Luke's daughter it had to be her that woke him up and nobody else so somehow Luke knows Rey.

Box office estimates revised upward to $247 US and $525 worldwide.

For December...I mean...WOW.

in other news: JJ Abrams announced retirement to explore art house film with George Lucas.

I think all your theories are implied/and or likely

Yep. Not to anyone specific here but today reading a lot of the articles that are "unanswered questions" I felt like they were answered. Maybe not fully but enough to get through with out too many holes. They will either quickly be answered in the next film or it isn't that big of a deal.

The only real question I had is I want to know whose "eyes" Finn has. That is what I want to hear in episode VIII. He has much more mystery surrounding him then Rey in my mind.

I think boyega was my favorite actor in the movie...and I thought Ridley and driver were almost perfect.

Abrams nailed the characters and as we have proven...created a storm of
Thirst for ep 8 while maintaining a fun movie.

Really...silly Death Star and trench crap aside...this movie will Likely be regarded as better as time
Goes on

I agree, Finn has a lot more mystery then Rey in my opinion.

Also I have to say I hope that Disney does nothing to polish Boyega (as well as Daisy and Driver). Boyega's excitement is just infectious and the fact he has been surprising fans all weekend is so amazing. Nothing better than giving a generation of kids a character and a strong individual they can look up to.

I'm still more interested in Rey (thematically and personally!)

Her back story, her development, her relationship with Ben. In the end, they are still family (we assume). Finn's entire story is based on who his parents were. He, as a character is just starting to develop. I'm sure they will build a strong story with him, but he has no background. Rey does. Where did she learn to fly? To fight? What impact does being abandoned for her entire life have on her?

I also saw where Poe was never meant to be a main character - he was intended to die after the escape. They decided they could build on him, so they wrote him in.

And Captain Phasma... what the heck? Huge character, marketing, lots of merchandise... and she ends up being a doofus who shows no power... still confused on that one.

Phasma was the biggest character fail...it was like "get that chick from GOT and we'll
Figure it out later". (That's intentionally stupid sounding...don't flame me)

I hope they make use of her in the next movie(s)

Her and Carrie fishers retired Leia were fails in my book

I think it's going to be really interesting to see what difference happen between episode 7, 8 and 9 as they all have different directors. Prior to this it of course was all George but now you have three different minds at play here.

I mean personally I connected with Rey since she is the heroine I dreamed of being when I was a little girl. I love how strong she is and can't get over that line she yells at Finn "Stop holding my hand!". Also the fact that her and Finn hug at the end and not kiss was such a big deal to me. I just feel like we know so much about her.

I think she learned to fly simply out of survival on Jakku. She needed a skill and flying made scrapping easier since she could go to stuff further out. I think a lot of what she knows how to do came out of a survival need. Thus why she is an awesome fighter as well.

So... do we think thats the best... or do we think there was a negative pressure to December? If this had opened in May - similar numbers or higher?

But yeah... incredible. The worldwide number without China is amazing.

Honestly...people were saying all those things and ecstatic coming out in 1999 too...

I'm more interested in what it's like on January 10th...when people would be going for repeats or "getting around to it"...

The lasting stars movies he legs...the others...didn't.

I saw it Saturday night, I'm a one and done guy for movies generally. I don't go back to the theater to see a movie again.

That being said, I'm going back to watch this one again. My father wants to go see it, he asked me to go with him, I jumped at the change to watch it a second time.

This to me had the feel of the original trilogy, not the prequel crap.

Down. Right. Awesome.
