I went over one morning to pool hop, since OKW doesn't have a slide yet and my kids were getting bored with the pool. I parked in the DVC center and walked to the pool. Found a few lounge chairs in the shade but right in front of the music speaker, not a big deal. Pool is a little on the small side. One side is zero entry which is nice for the little ones.

The slide was ok, nothing great. My dh and other adults were having trouble getting down it. It seems the heavier you are the slower you go :(

We did get the see the lifeguards jump in and save first a little girl then her brother because they're mother let them go down the little slide when they couldn't swim. After they pulled the little girl out, the mother took her out of the pool but didn't get the brother who proceeded to go down the slide and another lifeguard had to jump in to get him Neither one had on a life vest :(

Got hungry so went up to Artist Pallette to get lunch. Food was too "special" for me. Choices were salads, fish, pulled pork sandwich or for the kids, mac N cheese or mini hotdogs at $5.49 a pop!
We went back to the Turtle Pond pool at OKW and the kids had pizza and I had a Tuna sandwich which was delicious.

Also have to mention that the nice music that was playing when we got there was now playing techno-house-rap music. VERY annoying and loud. Not the kind of music you would expect during the day at a Disney pool :(

I think the BWV pool is much better.

We hopped over to the SSR pool on our last trip as well. It was a very nice pool, but based on what I had read prior to the trip I expected a little more. Not a disappointing pool in the least, just that the buildup was a little too much.

The zero entry feature is very nice. The slide is nice too, but not one of our daughters favorites. She's almost 6 and she rates all the slides!! The kids did like the area over by the waterfall with the soft ground and fountains that shoot water up. The baby had a ball with that.

Once ALL the SSR buildings are open, and there will be a lot of them, it is possible the main pool will get quite crowded. It was nice size, but not overly large.

We liked it a lot and do look forward to staying at SSR in the future. As far as BWV pool being better......it depends on your needs. With little ones the SSR pool is better. For older kids and adults BWV is better.

Dh and I had a blast on the slide! It was very "zippy" and I definitely picked up speed. Maybe they had the water turned down.

I was very impressed with the SSR Lifeguards too! I witnessed a little boy get into trouble and within seconds they had cut off the slide water and jumped in to rescue him. That may be the reason for the size of the pool. Maybe they wanted to keep maintenance down so 2 lifeguards can monitor a pool that size.
There will be several quiet pools.

I'm starting to think that DVC made a miscalculation with the pool.

Upon seeing the pool, my first impression was that it was no smaller than OKW, and thus DVC probably had solid guest data from OKW on which to base their design decisions.

However, what may not have been factored in was the additional "draw" inherent to a Feature Pool. Face it, up until now, OKW really didn't have a feature pool. No slide. No zero entry. You could go to any of the 4 (or is it 5) pools scattered throughout the resort and have roughly the same experience.

At SSR (and soon OKW as well), the feature pool will be an additional draw to guests due to the amenities it provides. People will bypass a Leisure Pool right outside their door to visit the Feature Pool and all that it has to offer.

Here's hoping DVC has another nice (shaded) feature pool as part of the Phase 3 design.

We thought the HRS slide was great...and DH and I had no problems flying down it (and we're not small people). I wondered if the water pressure down the slide was not strong enough.

The kids loved it too, along with the slide at BWV. You will never get me down the slide at BCV...I can't stand the enclosed part.

I agree...SSR needs another feature pool with a bigger slide in Phase III...along with a LOT of shade. We didn't use the quiet pool once while we were there in June. We want to be near a pool bar for drinks & snacks...and be able to pop into the arcade or community hall.

I was there at the beginning of the month. The feature pool is too small, ESPECIALLY for the size that SSR is going to be. They need a second feature pool for phase 3. The quiet pools are nice, but are not located near the pool bar and arcade and the kids always want the slide.

The techno music was highly annoying to me also. It was techno-Cher and techno-Celine Dion and it stunk. I love all kinds of music....they really should get some kind of mix. They could do Frank Sinatra and Elvis tunes right up to Maroon 5 and Linkin Park and I'd be happy. The music was really bad.
