IMHO, the whole concept of "newer" or "closer" at SSR is a complete myth. The resort is not as "spread out" as I had come to believe from reading the postings of others on these boards.
We just returned from our weeklong trip home to SSR and stayed in room 1234 (DD was able to remember that room number very well in case she ever needed to tell one of "Mickey's Friends" that she was lost). This building was less than a 5 minute walk to DTD with a 5 year old in tow and a 10 minute walk to High Rock Springs pool with the same 5 year old. This child -- who regularly complains about her feet hurting if she has to walk too far -- didn't complain once on the way to or from DTD or the swimming pool yet was eager to climb into the rental stroller the minute we paid for the thing at the parks.
As to an opinion on which of the Springs buildings will open first, if one were standing at the Springs Bus stop on Broadway (WebmasterDoc has posted the SSR map around here somewhere) with their back to the road and facing the fountain (big fountain -- don't know how I missed seeing that the first 4 days I was there) the building to the right appears to be much more complete than either of the other two Springs buildings. This would be the building numbered 3501-3836. Furniture was in the rooms, lights were on, the parking lot was being paved, and landscaping was well underway. There were a few finishing touches to be accomplished on the shingling of the roof, but far and ahead of the work completed on either of the other buildings.
The Paddock building which is closest to Congress Park was completely encased in scaffolding during our stay this past week -- lots of work happening there. As I mentioned in another posting around here, there was a large construction crane in and around the Fairway Villas on the evening of 10 Jan but gone on the morning of the 11th.
