The Sorcerer's Hat - Hollywood Studios

I've not been since they erected the giant hat. Is there any chance they'll get rid of it by January 20th? :lmao:
Seriously, move the thing to outside the entrance; the view down Hollywood Boulevard (? is that the name of the street ?) was beautiful before it got cluttered up.
I think the giant wand was on Spaceship Earth last trip. I'm so glad that monstrosity is gone. :shudder:
On the other hand, I wish I could have seen Cinderella's Castle decked out like a birthday cake. That must have been something. Course that was just for a year, right?

A year is 15-18 months in Disney-speak. All celebrations seem to last that long, so they can emcompass the average return visitor cycle.

I saw the castle cake on 6-8 separate visits in the course of that time-frame. I actually didn't mind it, but know plenty of people who did!

The cake was HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!!:scared1: THANK GOD the castle is back to being what it is ... a beauful dream castle ... not a lop sided ugly fake cake! YUCK!!! ......... Someone should have lost their job over THAT one !!!!

I understand Disney feels they need to change things "without really changing" to give us something NEW to focus on and get us to return. But the Castle and the theater are "classy." The Hat is nice but doesn't belong in that setting, the cake again was just cheesy and funky looking and the wand STUCK to Space Ship Earth looked CHEAP. IMO on those 3 "icons" they really missed the mark.

My understanding about the hat (which I am not a fan of) is that is protects the view of the Theater. Supposedly Disney has to pay a royalty every time the theater is shown on TV. When showing a sweeping view of MGM - the hat saves Disney money.

That's what I've heard at least. Not sure that this is the gospel truth though.

I would LOVE for the new plaza in California Adventure to be used at DHS. It is beautiful, elegant, DISNEY, and fits the whole Hollywood theme. The hat is ok, but you have to wonder why it is there, it dosnt make much sense. And the theater dsnt fit either. I want a symbol that represents Disney AND DHS, not just one or the other, and the hat and the theater are really the same when you think about it. Neither is a good symbol...

Have to say, I would love it if that giant sorcerers hat went away. Its an eyesore. If you go and look at it through out the day you soon realise its just another excuse for a character meeting area, which in my opinion is a huge waste of space.

Thanks for the link.

I had forgotten how nice the view was without the hat. :)

After seeing the original view I'm convinced... The hat must go. IT really doesn't match the theme of the park at all..

Am I the only one though who thinks the Leave a Legacy things at Epcot are kinda cool???? I actually wanted to do one, but it was too late.

It's strange, with out the hat it actually makes the theater feel like a castle. I didn't think I'd like the hat to go, but the before pictures are so much better.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I like the hat. It looks fantastic at night. Plus, it's pretty much an icon of the park now (like the tree in AK, castle in Mk, etc.) I think the park would look sort of lame with out it.

I agree, but I've only been visiting WDW since 2002 so I have never seen the park without it. I LOVE sorcerer Mickey, so I love the hat

Maybe they can attach a giant wand and then paint the entire thing PINK! :stir: :duck: :stir: :duck:

I was told when I did the Leave a Legacy thing - that they WERE going to move to a hotel and do an outside walk thing like the brick walk from MK to GF. That was 6 years ago though, so maybe something has changed... :confused3

As for the hat, it needs to go!!!!!!!!

I don't know if this rumor is true but I can hope! When I visited WDW for the first time (since I was 4), and we went to DHS, I was really looking forward to that moment when I would look up and see the Chinese Theatre down the street. A moment like when you first enter MK. But I was sadly dissappointed. I wouldn't mind it staying somewhere, but I would love to see it NOT be where it is right now.
