The Sopranos final episodes (SPOILERS!!!)

when i saw tony keep looking to the light and then the sun blinking at the end it also reminded me of the "kevin finnerty" episodes.

I have seen all the shows, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what you guys mean by the "Kevin Finnerty episodes" in relation to the blinking of the sun. Can someone please refresh my memory?

Wow, I can't believe he killed Christopher. I can understand why, but what kind of a cold, heartless animal do you have to be to murder someone you considered your own son? He was so unemotional about the whole thing. He kept bringing up the baby seat to people, hoping that they would validate what he felt and he would feel less guilty about it.

I really hope this show has a good finale. I would hate for it to go out with a whimper.

Paulie refered to himself as being like a Dutch Uncle to Christopher. Does anyone know what that is?

What about the irony when the mobsters are visiting Tony after the wreck? When Tony says Christopher choked on his own blood, they are upset. How many people have these guys killled w/out batting an eye.

Also,at the beginning when they were dumping trash,I was waiting for Adriannna's body to spill out of the dump truck.

Here is what Wiki has to say about it:
Dutch uncle is a term for a person who issues frank, harsh, and severe comments and criticism to educate, encourage, or admonish someone. Thus, a "Dutch uncle" is a person who is rather the reverse of what is normally thought of as avuncular or uncle-like (which would be indulgent and permissive).

That's one of the reasons why this show is so good. If you think about it, most of the main characters are monsters in their own way and have done terrible things to their fellow human beings. The fact is that this show almost makes you feel sorry for them when bad things happen to them, but in reality they really deserve it. I was glad to see Christopher get his due and before I started feeling sorry for him, I had to stop and think about how many people he has killed over the years. That senseless killing of Tim Daley's character last week just showed how evil Christopher really was.
He ruined many lives and was responsible for Adriana death. He was the one who called Tony to tell him the news about her and only did that because he didn't want to live a normal, no frills life. Remember when he was thinking about joining her in the Witness protection program and was at that gas station filling up his expensive car? He saw that poor family filling up their junky looking station wagon at the other pump, knew that it could be him and wanted no part of it. If he had joined her and went to the FBI like she wanted, they probably would both would be safe and alive today.

If there's a hell, he's certainly in it. It just shows anyone who gets close to Tony or has business dealings with him, ends up losing in some way. In that episode with Paulie in Miami, on the boat was proof of that and Paulie just about got killed that day. I like the dream sequence when Paulie arrives back at his condo and sees Big P cooking in his kitchen and asks Big P, Will I be standing up when my time comes? I thought that was pretty chilling and Paulie knows the score all too well. Good episode tonight.:thumbsup2

You summed it all up beautifully!

WOW.... I actually read that spoiler a long time ago but didn't think it was true. I couldn't picture how they could pull that off but they did.

I've not read any of the spoilers, I've stayed off the Sopranos BB. I don't want to know in advance!

I just thought if something else. Death comes in threes and only 2 deaths happened so far (last night). Also- AJ seems to be having a change of heart in the way he sees things. Almost like he abhors the violence? I also think Tony is doing all these things to free himself if you will. Taking the drugs -when he was disgusted by Christopher's use- and taking the trip alone etc. I did find it really interesting the song choices that they used with Christopher. Comfortably Numb was great. Especially when they played the part that reminices about a young child and then after the crash the first thing Tony sees is the smashed carseat. Since he raised Christopher it was as if his child was killed in that instant. Nothing is the way it was before. It was very bittersweet. I am curious as to when Tony is going to go off on Christopher's mother. It's only a matter of time before he tells her off or worse.

ETA- Did you also notice the Kennedy references? The girl's name that hit the car was Kennedy and when Christopher's wife came into the funeral parlor they said she looked like Jackie Kennedy. Hmmmm.....wonder where they are going with that.....

Lots of symbolism is being used, only I didn't realize it until I read it here!

Also,at the beginning when they were dumping trash,I was waiting for Adriannna's body to spill out of the dump truck.

I thought the exact same thing!

I think the Kevin Finnerty episodes are referring to last season when Tony was in the coma after being shot by Uncle Jr. He had this dream that he was a different person (Kevin Finnerty) in a different life. Gosh it seems like that was so long ago... I could be mistaken so jump right in and correct me if I'm wrong.

Tony dreamed while he was in a coma that he was a guy named Kevin Finnerty who was on a business trip and someone stole his briefcase. His whole life was in there (that's what he said as he was trying to get it back.)

That's it!! I remember the whole salesman / coma sequence and didn't remember his though. Okay, now I understand the whole light reference a bit more!

A Dutch uncle is a person who gives unwelcome advice; someone who admonishes sternly and bluntly; someone who criticises or rebukes you with the frankness of a relative.

Oh, Kim! You crack me up! :lmao:

I swear... it was one of those articles that said "don't read past this if you don't want to know what happens". Well, I read it and laughed it off. I'm trying to remember what the rest said. This was about 3 months ago.

See... The National Enquirer is a reputable news magazine ;)

I've come across a few of those Dutch Uncles (and Aunts) on the DIS Community Board :rotfl:

Tony takes after his mother who was a very cold and ruthless person. Do you remember how she was able to pit Uncle Junior against Tony in the first season because Tony had put her in Green Grove nursing home? When AJ had told her in a visit that his dad was seeing a therapist, Livia got all upset because she knew Tony was going to one because of her and how she raised her kids. She got Uncle Junior all riled up and told him that Tony was the real boss and was acting behind his back. Then informed him that Tony had all his Captain's (Capos) mothers in Green Grove so he was able to conduct his business there. It set Junior off in a rage and he tried to have Tony murdered at the end of Season 1. If Junior hadn't been arrested by the FBI and took the fall for Tony, he would have been killed like Uncle Junior's mob crew who worked for him.

As for Christopher, he had many chances, far more than any regular mob guy would have. In season 4 when Christopher's drug use comes to a head and Tony and his crew have to stage an intervention, their way. Tony tells Chris in the Hospital that he's going to rehab and someone will be watching him to make sure he completes the program. He also tells Chris point blank, that the only rehab "made guys" would have got in the old days was a bullet in the back of the head. He warned Chris not to do anymore drugs and that this was his only chance. Christopher broke his promise and crossed the line way too many times. Tony overlooked Christopher taking drugs way too many times because of the family connection. Tony finally realised after seeing that "Cleaver" movie that Christopher secretly hated him and wanted him dead. When Christopher admitted to Tony in the wrecked truck that he couldn't pass a drug test, Tony knew it was time for Chris to go. I was glad to see Christopher finally get justice served to him. He was a complete psychopath, a loose cannon, and too big of a liability to have in the crew. Tony may have an evil streak to him, but is a good mob boss, just like his father was. He knows what has to be done for the survival of the "outfit" and the good of the crew.

He may be doing what's right for his crew, but he's still a monster. I think we've all accepted Tony, liked him, etc. I wonder if that was David Chase's intentions, for the audience to like him. I don't think so, that's why we see more of him being the monster he really is.

The audience needs to realize just what he's capable of and how he's lost whatever conscience he had. He's cold and calculating, not the guy next door we'd want to invite over to a cook out.

He made sure Chris went to re-hab and was given another chance...and then he mocked him at the BBQ a couple of shows ago for being weak. Not buying the whole "disease"...thing. Chris tells him he's not around because he doesn't want to be around the drugs...and he tells him he's got to get a back bone.

I missed it last night,so I will be catchin' it tonight!!!!!!!! Sounds like a great episode!
