The Solution To The Frozen Mess At WDW

Many of us would love that and book it in a minute. But they don't turn over enough people there to make a dent in the demand. Additionally, it would double the cost of the greeting character without gaining much of anything for the restaurant (because it's booked solid most of the time already anyway.)

Well if they made it a 2 credit meal........ ;)

People would STILL book it like hotcakes because of the Frozen girls.

Disney would marginally upgrade the menu a hair and add some minor thing like a picture package or something.

Their bottom line on it would increase big time.

Just look at the reception to the Star Wars dining options. Frozen would go over every bit as much as that if not more.

But, it obviously still wouldn't fix the original problem, of reducing line demand. The same people booking this would be doing the M&G's in all likelyhood. But I think even a 2 credits, a Frozen breakfast at Akershus would be every bit as hot a ticket as BOG or CRT, maybe even more so....

So many great ideas. Why not get rid of the ridiculous American idol show and use that huge building at HS? Create a frozen pavillion there. A meet and greet with more than one set of characters. Have a new attraction that is high tech and inventive. Maybe an interactive show with Olaf (think turtle talk with crush). Frozen merchandise store.

With that said the OP's idea would work and help with the problem at MK. I liked the suggestion of a PP who said make bit into an educational pavilion on weather. Or go balls to the walls and convert any building to look like the frozen castle. But honestly, something new has to happen at Epcot. The stuff that's there really isn't futuristic or all that educational anymore.

After seeing the mess Disney has created in the Magic Kingdom with Anna and Elsa, I tried thinking of ways that it could possibly be fixed. Let's face it - their popularity is something Disney clearly underestimated and the Frozen phenomenon isn't going away any time soon.

So what needs to be done? Possible solutions:

1) Remove them from the parks - yeah right. They're making Disney mad cash. Not happening, ever

2) Frozen characters in each of the 4 parks - too much of a good thing. Supply and demand only works for WDW when they have something people really want and it's in short supply.

Then it hit me - drum roll please..... Move Anna and Elsa to the old Wonders of Life pavilion at Epcot and transform the entire building into "Frozen Central".

Epcot desperately needs something to begin with. They have Soarin, Test Track, and not much else. Future World is chock full of outdated attractions that need serious attention. What better way to inject some life into it by filling up an empty building with Disney's most popular movie franchise in history (if it isn't yet, it will be. They're not building off of Wreck It Ralph or Brave for a reason right?).

First off, you crank down the A/C to a comfortable Norway-like level. Make it immersive, chilly even. Not sub zero or anything, but cold enough that a penguin could walk in and say "hmm, kinda balmy today". That would be a crowd pleaser in the summer for sure. Next, an indoor dark ride like Maelstrom on steroids. Top that with the mother of all meet and greets with Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf, heck even bring in a live reindeer for kiddie rides or something. Also load the place with Frozen merchandise (and be sure it stays stocked modestly - remember, supply and demand!)

This could be huge. You think Avatar is going to compete with Harry Potter? Wrong. It's Frozen. Disney needs to capitalize on their popularity now and not wait another ten years to think about it. Universal built half of a theme park in the same amount of time it took Disney to build a kiddie coaster themed to a 70 year old movie. Epcot has had nothing new of significance in ages - and no, the new Test Track doesn't count.

Turn the Wonders of Life building into the world of Frozen. You can thank me later with a pineapple Dole Whip.

And don't get me started on Star Wars......

Meh...I mentioned this and was told, it would never work. First of all, Disney is happy with using WOL for "special events". Norway is out because "the counties run their own pavilions" (thought this was no longer true ?). So, looks like more chaos at MK and a dwindling EPCOT.

I agree EPCOT needs a serious boost. We are losing entertainment, merchandise and quality attractions in this park. Sadly, Disney doesn't care much about anything, except a quick buck...but not going to start that rant again. :(

The truth is that to a certain degree Disney likes having a hot property. They're going to love having 2 hot properties going this summer when the mine train opens.

I would imagine though that they will add A/E to the hard ticket parties, and will sell even more tickets as a result.

I haven't read this whole thread yet so I apologize if someone already mentioned this. They use it for the F & W festival. That is a huge money maker for Epcot, much more then a Frozen pavilion would be. So while it is a very good idea I don't foresee it happening.

Um, that's exactly what they have at Princess Fairytale Hall, multiple sets.

Seriously? I've not been inside Fairytale Hall, so I didn't realize that, lol. Wow...can you imagine if it was just one set then? We were there for EMH last week and it was actually a bit scary watching parents dragging their kid behind and shoving the stroller into people.....we went to Peter Pan so we got to see the long lines already forming when we came out.

Thank heavens for FP+....I would never see them otherwise, lol. We have FP+ next week.

Seriously. Also Town Square Theater and Ariel's Grotto.

Thanks for that.

I almost spewed my coffee half-way across the kitchen. Seriously. :rotfl2:

I think this is the best idea yet. Except I would like to see it as a show like the Beauty and the Beast one at DHS. The music was a huge part of this movie. Having a show where you can see Elsa and Anna singing the most popular songs from the soundtrack would be something I would really enjoy personally. That, plus a meet and greet at MK, AND adding Elsa and Anna to the Akershus meal would distribute the Frozen crowd.

I am still puzzled by the "frozen mess." I feel so alone in that I really wasn't impressed with Frozen. In terms of recent princess films, I liked Tangled and The Princess and the Frog much better. Maybe the Disney theme park execs, like me, weren't that impressed either and that's why they couldn't anticipate the demand! Ha. Either way, I don't think the solution is jamming them into future world where they don't belong. I think people are just going to have to wait out the novelty of them. It's not Disney's fault that people will wait in line 3-5 hours for a meet and greet. If I'm Disney, the insanity of it all is good for publicity (no such thing as bad publicity) and is possibly coercing some guests to add a day just to meet A and E. So why should I look for a "solution?"

Wanted to let you know you're not alone. I watched it with my sis and her kids right when it opened and both my sis and I felt a little let down. Maybe I need to see if again (I've only seen it once), but I wanted more...not sure what I wanted but def not up there with Tangled in my opinion.

What about a frozen on ice show? That would be fun.

What?
Freeze Seven Seas Lagoon?

Could be onto something...

That makes me feel better!! Thank you :-) FWIW, I tried to watch it again when it came out on DVD and I was still underwhelmed. I don't know what I'm missing? My sisters and I (ages 18, 27, and 30, all huge disney fans) all felt the same way. We loved Tangled and princess and the frog, so we clearly haven't outgrown our love of the princesses. We were really stunned to watch the unfolding of frozen's extreme popularity. My son is only 3 months old, so it's hard to use him as a barometer yet for what the kids are into :-)

I think a lot of the problem is staffing. All of the "friends" of face characters have to be trained to act and talk like the characters as well as look like them. With A&E you need double the CMs to do every M&G. And even with two lines operating, the CMs need breaks so you need another set to take their place. My good friend works in entertainment at WDW and she said they can't get them trained and ready fast enough.

Let's take a deep breath here. Frozen is a moooooo-vie. Harry Potter is a fraaaaaaa-nchise.

Harry Potter movies: worldwide box office=$7.719B (Doesn't begin to count revenue from books and marketing).
Marvel Superhero movies: (Avengers, Iron Man, Capt. America, Thor) worldwide box office=$5.288B
Lord of the Rings/Hobbit movies: worldwide boxoffice=$4.886B
Star Wars movies: worldwide box office=$4.312B
Avatar (one movie): worldwide box office=$2.782B
Pirates of the Caribbean movies: worldwide box office=$2.765B
Transformers movies: worldwide box office=$2.668B
Toy Story movies: worldwide box office=$1.909B
Chronicle of Narnia movies: worldwide box office=$1.579B
Frozen (one movie): worldwide box office=$1.206B

It's not too hard to figure out which franchises warrant full exploration and which warrant a ride or a meet and greet. People are quick to forget that Ariel was just as popular as Anna and Elsa in her day. But there weren't 4 hours lines to meet Ariel because character meetings weren't really "a thing" back then. Characters roamed around the park. In could be argued that the whole character greeting phenomenon originated with Ariel and the creation of her grotto. Ariel has spawned two attractions and a whole sub-industry of character greetings. Anna and Elsa will be no more, but no less popular. Let's not start building a fifth gate around them just yet.
