The 'so far to travel' threads make me laugh!

Definitely not dislike Charmel, just jealousy LOL! I know I'd love to live in the States so I was closer to Disney World, great shopping, Disney Stores and Hershey's Stores - yep, green with envy! :thumbsup2

I don't like Hershey's although my kids go crazy for it. I'm more of a See's girl. And I do like the three musketeers bars :)

Wow. I guess I AM uneducated about your side of the world. I never knew we Americans were so disliked.

Charmel, I just wanted to add that I am paying $7800 in airfares for my family of 4 from my regional airport to LAX (an indirect flight which involves a three hour stop over at my capital city). I am also paying almost $4500 in airfares for flight from Orlando to NYC then for flights to Missoula and then from Missoula to Seattle. I am also paying $670 in one way car rental from Seattle to Anaheim for one week and $250 for one week in Orlando. I have yet to book the remainder of our needed car hire and transfers. My DCL cruise is costing me $4500 (still a lot cheaper than a comparable cruise from Australia for a verandah suite). I have paid for my 5 day WDW hoppers (no discounts for us) and still need to buy my DLR hoppers plus USO/IOA passes. Not to mention the costs of various accommodations over our 56 day holiday, plus food and souvenirs. If I go on what we spent on our last trip, I expect this trip to come close to the $30,000 we forked out. And I didn't take into account the almost $18,000 we spent on buying into our timeshare.

So yes, we are amazed at how much people take for granted (our opinion) your relatively short travel distances and costs in America.

In saying that, many Americans and Canadians would be utterly horrified at how expensive things are here. We pay $4+ for a stick of Chapstick whereas at Walmart we paid 98c each and bought enough to take home to last us almost a year! I paid over $100 for a pair of Wrangler jeans here but we paid between $15 and $20 at Walmart.

Again. Dislike? No way. Just envious.

It's approximately 1600klms (we don't use miles so I can't tell you what that equates to) from where I live (a large regional city in Queensland) to our capital city. It's a similar distance from Melbourne to Brisbane in Queensland. My friends in Melbourne keep asking me if I go to the Gold Coast on weekends :) To them, Queensland stops at the Gold Coast :)

Oh! And I made that trip to Brisbane the other weekend for a Qld Dismeet :) Admittedly, I flew for a cost of $155 each way for the 1 hour 45 minute Qantas flight. And I had to be up at 4am for the flight that left at 5.55am but I made it :) and I'm now do in love with my pixie-dusted ROW 4 seats that I got BOTH WAYS!!!

Are us Australians/Austrians really that difficult to understand? (You know they're two different countries right?)

Our sense of humour and ability to laugh at ourselves is something the world could learn, and reiterating, I don't think it was ever said here that we "dislike" Americans.

Maybe retrace the thread and see where you went wrong...

Wow. I guess I AM uneducated about your side of the world. I never knew we Americans were so disliked.

As others have said, this is definitely not a thread about disliking Americans. Because our cultures are different, it is human nature to find a few of these differences humorous or confusing. This certainly does not translate to a 'dislike' of the whole culture. I have always found the majority of Americans to be very gracious. I would not be revisiting your country for a fourth time if I thought otherwise.

As for long hours behind the wheel (the topic I brought up), it's an issue that I feel passionate about - both in relation to my own country and others. If my comment causes someone to think and behave in a safer manner, I can live with any offence I cause.

Not disliked at all! In fact, as others have pointed out, we are all very jealous or your proximity to Disney (and in fact, cheaper shopping, Europe... :rotfl:). But I do maintain my stance on the 'no need to see the world because we have Epcot' statement

On the whole, DH and I have found Americans to be polite, friendly, and very pleasant to have a conversation with :thumbsup2

I totally get this! Perth has got to be the furthest away place from anything ever (I love living here but being a travel lover that has to be one of the worst things about the place!) The longest it has taken us to travel back from the US was 36 hours (which was door to door) but generally 20 - 25 is normal - in fact we've gotten so used to it i'm not sure how i'll react when we only have to fly for 12 hours to Tokyo in Nov (possibly 14 with stop over at Singapore Airport) with no real time change (1 hour doesn't really make that much difference) and no jet lag! Well, at least until we travel from Tokyo to LA :)

I did reread the thread and agreed I misread the posts. I had been up all night when I read the thread the first time. I apologized for the misunderstanding but my post was marked as sarcastic and removed. So I will try again. I am sorry for misunderstanding. Thank you for clarifying and doing it in a nice way. I will be in the World in November. One of my favorite things about being there is meeting people from all over the world.
