The snickers superbowl ad was pulled

I had that thought when I saw it. The men were grossed out by what they did and had to do something "manly".

We are "okay" with Isaiah Washington for VERBALIZING homophobia...

I thought it was odd that anyone thought this was a "great" commercial when it IMPLIED homophobia.

I'm glad they pulled it--but just b/c it was a stupid commercial with a horrible punchline. I think they could have done a better job with a better punchline--but instead they called great attention to the message that it is unacceptable for two men to kiss. (based on how the commercial was produced)

I thought it was the stupidest commercial I had ever seen, and not even funny.

Who reaches out and starts biting off the end of a Snickers bar in mid-air? It wasn't even plausible.

It reminds me of those idiots in the phone commercial who sing "Stop the Catbox" instead of "Rock the Casbah" - when Duh! they'd have had to know the name of the song to download it onto the phone.

But anyway, I think this part:

is what caused the problem with the idea of inciting violence. It's not funny to beat people with wrenches.

I immediately thought of lady and the tramp--and the notion that the snickers bar was just too irresistable to not take a nibble...I didn't have a problem with that part of the commercial and initially laughed...but then was silenced by their so-called "punchline".

And I disagree that anyone will be fired. They did nothing wrong, and they'll get more press out of this than they would have if these groups weren't protesting.

When ad campaigns fail due to backlash or not achieving the desired result...people get fired or severely reprimanded for not meeting their objective. Standard protocol in the advertising world.

Basically the ad ran once--maybe a handful of other times between Sunday and today...essentially a waste for the efforts put into developing, producing, and airing the ad.

I just thought it was poking fun at two "macho" men and I didn't see the undertones of the homophobic stuff. I guess I just wasn't digging enough. I was more mortified that one of the men pulling out chest hair looked like he had his ma hair groomed into a shape, lol. I'm glad to see I'm not the only ones that didn't see more into this.

took the words outta my mouth!:thumbsup2

I'm shocked at the number of people who dimiss what this commercial was obviously trying to do. I wonder if people would feel it was OK if a commercial showed two guys getting oil on their faces and then launched into some black stereotypes.

If it was scripted for them to "quick--do something white..."

It would have been a problem.

I 'snickered' when they kissed. I groaned when they ripped out chest hair. I was disgusted at the drinking oil and anti-freeze version and amazed at the head slamming version. But I was truly unhappy that the NFL players shown watching the commercial were so grossed out at the two guys kissing. I could just imagine a gay teenager watching their responses...

What was this commercial that has caused all the uproar? :confused3 I must have been making a run for snacks. Anybody got a youtube link?

The version I saw was two mechanics leaning over a car, one with a Snickers bar hanging out of his mouth. The other guy puts the other end in his mouth, they keep eating, and finally their lips touch. They jump away from each other, one yells "Quick, do something manly", and they rip out chest hair.

I'm personally not getting what the big deal was, at least with the version I saw - I thought it was kind of dumb commercial, but that's it. Seems to me to be much ado about nothing.

I did not like it & was surprised the Snickers people did it. :headache:

Now Britney Spears ex husband commercial was great!::happytv:

The commercial skeeved me out but only because the 'candy bar' reminded me of something you should flush down a toilet.

Exactly. "Homophobia" didn't even enter my mind until I opened this thread...I personally didn't associate the ad with homosexuals, I associated it with the 'average guy' trying to be ‘manly’ who the ad was humorously making fun of. I swear people these days look for things they can claim was ‘offensive’ or ‘discriminatory’ in any way they can find (or make up). I assume you didn’t like the ‘ESL class” one? I thought it was hilarious.

Me either, watching it I was thinking...how stupid is this? like 2 men would both be eating a candy bar from opposite ends and then accidently kiss? I mean how stupid was that?

Then the ripping the hair off the chest, reminded me of a takeoff on the 40 year old virgin scene where he is waxing his chest.

Stupid commercial...but I don't like snickers anyhow.
