The Smith's "yes, we are to Disney AGAIN" PreTrip Report!

My brother had the grey Mickey sweater and I had a baby blue one growing up. I loved it. Brings back great memories.

We're moving up to the moderates this trip. Tried calling for the elusive 40% off code a few times. I can just imagine the hooting and hollering going on in your head when the CM said you had a code.

Thanks for reading! I'll have to go check out your report too!

Since I never got around to actually finishing my 2007 trip report, I will briefly cover our trip. In general, the trip started out the way most do...with a visit from Tinkerbell. While I don't keep our trips a secret from DD (how can I with yearly trips) but we don't tell her the ACTUAL day we are going. She knows that it's "Disney day" when Tinkerbell comes. Basically Tink comes to our house (after, of course, closely monitoring DD's behavior all year) and leaves a pixie dust trail from the window to a basket of goodies
TinkBasket.jpg

Ya, Tink goes overboard! The basket includes goodies for the trip/plane and this particular one had a Snow White gown to wear to CRT. So, when Tink comes, that means we are going to Disney. After we got all the Tink gifts packed up, I took DD to get her first pedicure. Oh you should have seen her. The poor women working there couldn't keep up with her. She had a thousand questions and was very excited to tell them all about Disney. On the way home from the pedicure, we stopped at Dunkin Donuts for a treat (You can start eating the junk food before you actually get to Disney right???). Then we went home, picked up DH, and headed to Logan for our flight. Airport went extremely well. DD took the opportunity to work on her "homework" at the terminal. Yes, this child actually requested that her day care provider give her homework to do on the plane.
aairport.jpg

Flight went reallyl well. God Bless Jet Blue and their individual tv screens. It's only 3 hours from Boston to Orlando so it was over before you know it. So we headed down to check in for ME. This time using ME was the longest we have ever had to wait for a bus. We were literally the first and ONLY people on the bus for the longest time. So we just sat and waited and waited. Luckily everyone was in good spirits.
ARME.jpg

Oh wait....I COMPLETELY forgot to introduce everyone to our other Cast Member. How could I have forgotten our beloved Puppy (you'll see him in the above picture)? We don't go ANYWHERE without Puppy. Seriously, she doesn't even go up/downstairs at our house w/o Puppy. He never leaves her side. This Puppy is actually our 2nd Puppy. Here is the first:
Aepcot.jpg
. This Puppy mysteriously disappeared one day while DD and DH were out running errands. They had gone to the park and several stores. It wasn't until 9pm that we noticed he was missing. So at 9pm DH and I had to call our inlaws to babysit so we could go look for Puppy. This was about a year ago. He was never found. So we got a new Puppy (the one you see in the above picture) who was a close subsitute. Actually, to be safe, we got two of them and I rotated them w/o DD's knowledge. Thank God we did (and that I thought to hide the extra in my suitcase for our Disney trip). I will explain that later.

Well anyway, back to the TR. So, we finally got to AKL and the first impression was overwhelming, as I mentioned before. I should also mention that we had some friends who went to Disney the same week as us so on our first night, they made ADRs at Boma so we could all meet up. We let the kids go to the Storyteller and participate in the parade. After that, they left and we went to our room to get to bed early.

Day 2 we went to MK. It was an excellent day in general. We got to see TONS of characters, ride TONS of rides, and of course, meet the Big Cheese
Amickey.jpg

That night we went to Mickey's Backyard BBQ with our friends. I will say that the kids wore themselves out dancing but it is definately not something I would do again. One, it takes FOREVER to get there on Disney transportation. Two, the food was awful. Three, it's definately not worth two DDP credits and I still can't tell you why you have to pay a gratuity since the only workers I saw were the characters and the guy pouring the beer/wine. The best part of the night was the boat ride back to MK. I don't know what it is about Disney at night but it's just SOOOO pretty and feels so magical!:cloud9:

Day 3 we went to AK. Of course we ran STRAIGHT to the Safari so that we could actually see the animals before it got to hot. We spent the rest of the morning at AK. It was a fun day but so hot that we rode Kali over and over and over again and still were dry in minutes. Here is a shot of DD before she got soaked!
beforehaircut.jpg

Disboutiquers...notice my very first applique. I like to point out that it's my first applique because I held the darn zebra stripes the wrong way!

The rest of the Day at AK was okay (Festival of the Lion King was my personal fav) until DD had a bit of a meltdown waiting to meet Pooh and Friends (the CM had assured us that it was a very short wait...yup, LIE). We took our Pooh photos and left.
APooh.jpg

We then went back to the Pool for a swim and change. We then headed out to Epcot for dinner at Le Cellier and for Illuminations. Lookee at what we had for goodies at Le Cellier:
lcdrink.jpg
lcdessert2.jpg
lcdessert.jpg
.

We also had the Grand Marnier and Grey Goose slushies from France while waiting for Illuminations...VERY NICE in that heat.
Here is Illuminations OR Epcot on FIRE!!!
illuminations.jpg

Day 4 we went to CRT for breakfast. I have to note that this was a far better experience at CRT than when DH and I went for dinner a couple of years ago. Breakfast had decent food and the character interaction was great. Plus they gave us etched champagne flutes for our anniversary. Here are some of our favorite photos:
Acastle.jpg

Acindy2.jpg

fairygodmother.jpg

After breakfast, we continued to explore MK. I would like to take this opportunity to ask: Does anyone know WHERE Snow White gets the lipstick she uses for those kiss marks? Seriously...DD had lips marks on her face all day, including after the pool, and I still had to scrub her head to get it off. Only to have Snow White kiss her again the next time we went to MK.

DD wore that Snow White get up even though she was burning up in it. We finally had to take her onto Splash Mountain so that it would get wet and she would change. And she changed into my second applique attempt.
Apirate.jpg

However, before we changed her...we went to the Laugh Floor. And guess who got picked as that show's princess (yes, now know that I wasn't supposed to take a photo...missed that announcement)
PrincessofMass.jpg
. The best part for her was the several people who were in our showing saw her later in the day and refered to her at the Princess Of Massachusetts. She LOVED that.

Anyway, while were in the Laugh Floor...guess who went missing. Yup Puppy. He was in the stroller (not wearing the dog tag that I had made for him with our contact info...DD told me that it was itching his neck). We came out of the ride and he was gone. Luckily DH and I were able to distract her for a little while. Then she got tired. Luckily she just konked out before the meltdown got bad. When she asked where Puppy was, I quickly thought on my feet. "He ran back to the hotel to go potty" Yup, that's what I said. And she bought it. When we got back to the hotel, I ran and got the backup Puppy out of the suitcase and literally threw him in the bathroom. DD ran into the bathroom and congratulated him for being a big boy!!!! Crisis averted. I then immediately took my cell out on the balcony and called my mother asking that she immediately go to Hallmark and get another Puppy...well, she got 4. So there are now 5 of them. I continue to rotate them every two weeks and keep the 4 backups hidden! Hopefully this year, Puppy will keep his tags on!!!

That night we went back to MK after having dinner at Chef Mickeys. There were dark clouds rolling it but we were really hoping to see Wishes and Spectro since it was the only night on our trip that both were running. Well, we went to Adventureland and decided to ride Aladdin before meeting up with friends for the fireworks. While we were on Aladdin the heavens just opened. Luckily, I had DD's poncho in my purse so I was able to get it on her while we were on the ride and before she got soaked. DH and I didn't end up as dry. I ended up throwing on my poncho but it was pretty much useless. I was drenched. DH didn't even bother putting his on. We ended up eventually riding out the storm at POTC. DD and DH literally rode it 8 times in a row. I rode in one but it was so cold in there and I was so wet, I couldn't do it again. I stayed outside talking the Dream Squad that was hiding under there too. It worked out well since I got the update that Spectro would be cancelled but WISHES was still on. Here is DH and DD at POTC:
POTC.jpg
. We ended up getting to see Wishes and then headed back to the hotel for the night.

Day 5 we went to MGM (it was still MGM then so that counts). When we entered, DD didn't want her pic taken and started to cry. A CM dressed like a 20's gangster came over and told her not to cry and that he was going to make her a BIG Star. Her gave her some $$ and a jeweled ring (that he gives to "all his girls") Well this cheered her up immediately and we had a good day.
star.jpg

DD conned my DH into paying for her face to be painted...and got to have her first Mickey rice krispie treat
facepaint2-1.jpg

The most exciting part of our day was that DD was picked at the Princess of the Show for Beauty and Beast. We got VIP seating and she got to go up to get the Rose from the Beast. She was overly excited about it. After the show, a couple of little girls asked her to see the rose and how she got picked. What did she tell them? (I almost died of embarrassment)...she told that that she was the prettiest girl there. Seriously, I've taught my child better manners than this.
Rose1.jpg
Rose2.jpg
.

That night we just hung out at the hotel and had dinner at Boma. We were going to go see Fantasmic but DD was just way too exhausted.

Day 6 was our last day. We went back to MK (DD's wish) and then to DTD. And then we were sadly off to the airport. We were the only people on the ME bus back to the airport so DD spent the entire time talking to the driver. We did find out that the video you watch is GPS controlled so if you are stuck in traffic, it will still say "you are about to arrive at your resort" at the right time. That was kinda cool.

So there it is....6 days at Disney World. Not nearly enough! 2008's trip will be 9 days so I'm hoping that we'll have some down time and be much less rushed. Thanks again for reading!

Your little girl is such a cutie! I hope you guys have a great time this yr!

Although that does not beat the late 80's photos that include spiral perms, high bangs, and tight rolled acid wash jeans...seriously...I could have been in Honey I Shrunk The Kids (you like that reference to your TR??? ;) )
Yes, I LOVE that reference to my TR!!

I guess because I hate my kids schools principal i am more i will pul them out when I want! LOL i know that is wring BUT I have had many issues with this principal. Like her not caring my DD has specail dietery needs that even affect her every day class stuff. She has Celiac and can't have anything with wheat in it so she can't do certain crafts or even play with reg play dough and this principal handled it awful. Then the other main issue was the schools in town had bomb threats and she felt it was a good idea to announce it over the announcement before the parents were notified:scared1: This is an elementary school that only goes up to 5th grade so imo they are to young to hear about this from any one BUt the parents. JMO. When I called her on it se said kids were coming to her about it. Yeah smart blaming the kids! Any way I figure my kid my rules. I know very bad but I have been burnt.

WHAT!! The principal announced a BOMB THREAT over the loudpeaker?! What in idiot! I can't imagine how scared I would have been as a kid hearing that!

I loved your mini TR! The Tinkerbell basket idea is really cute!

So funny that you mom bought 4 more puppies! What a good grandma!

Your DD probably WAS the prettiest girl at the Beauty and the Beast show! :rotfl:

I think your first applique was wonderful! So, was the pirate one! The skirt with the coins around it was a perfect touch, too!

Actually, you can't tell by that picture...the coins actually go around the bottom of the shirt. Thank you though!

And THANK GOD my dd can't read big words because if she read that someone ELSE suggested that she was the prettiest girl at Beauty and the Beast she would TRULY believe it!!!! :rotfl:

As I mentioned on T-Beri's TR...I would love to join Tour Guide Mike just for curiousity sake and see what he would suggest for plans. We have never followed any kind of guide or set plan. We do certain things in certain order but that's about it. But who know...we are probably doing it all wrong!!!

This is a general run down of our plans for the 2008 trip

Sept 5th- 9am flight out of Logan, ME to AKL, checkin and hang out at the resort, Dinner at Boma

Sept 6th- Chef Mickey's for breakfast, hopefully make it to our first MK rope drop, MK until lunch time, back to resort for swimming/naps, 1900 Park Fare for Dinner. We'll plan after dinner by ear.

Sept 7th- AK day, lunch at Tusker House, no plans for afternoon evening.

Sept 8th- rest during day, Dinner at O'Hana's, Spectro and WISHES

Sept 9th- BBB and CRT for Breakfast- another MK day, afternoon and evening open.

Sept 10th- Breakfast in Norway, explore Epcot, back to hotel for nap/swimming and then Dinner at Le Cellier, Illuminations

Sept 11th- rest during the day, Dinner and Evening at DHS (Pizza Planet...not an ADR but DD and DH really love this one...and Fantasmic)

Sept 12th- Finish up DHS, rest, MNSSHP at night

Sept 13th- Pack up, check out, DD's choice of park, lunch at DTD, and back to hotel for 7pm flight home.

Some things that I would like to accomplish on this trip: Be at rope drop for MK, see all of the nighttime shows in one trip (I've seen them all but DD has never been to Fantasmic...she has watched it on YouTube), go to our first MNSSHP, Turtle Talk with Crush (still haven't seen that one)., see Tink fly during WISHES..I think that's it....OH and win something from the Dream Squad!!!

Ok- off to bed now. I'm supposed to be packing for our 4th of July trip to Maine but yet again, I'm procrastinating!!! Big shock there for anyone who's read some of my other posts!!! I was born a procrastinater. I was due on December 19th and was born on Jan 14th!!!! My poor mother!

I wanted to get some firework shows in this trip too. However I may have to rethinking that plan as we went to the Canada day (July 1st) fireworks and the kids freaked. But ropedrop doesn't involve loud noises so I guess I will just stick with hitting those and retire early. The good thing is there is no lineup on the buses to get in after watching wishes on You-Tube.

Did they freak from the noise or just fireworks in general? DD hated the noise last year but loved to see the fireworks (we discovered on the 4th that she's gotten over it). We seriously contemplated bringing ear plugs this trip...but guess we won't be needing them. Something for you to think about though.

Ok I pointed out in another thread that we would be at WDW during the same dates. We are staying at ASM so that is not the same, but man you and I have a LOT alike.

First off, I have my degree in Social Work. I no longer use it as I got a job with the post office and I make way more money now, and I love my job. So that's the first similarity.

As previously pointed out our dd's are the same age, or will be at the time of our trip.

On the 10th we are doing breakfast with the princesses at Norway too. Our time is 10:20.

Ok I think there are more similarities but can't think of them right now, I'm spaced out from too much activity this weekend.

BTW I love reading your thread! I definitely think I can learn a ton from you!

Thanks for Reading...Definately say Hi if you see us at Norway...I think we are there around 9:30ish so we'll be on our way out as you come in!!!

Maybe I can learn something from you!!! How did you lose that much weight?!?! That's amazing. My goal was to lose 20lbs by Disney (I started May 1st). I'm halfway there (lost 10 as of last Monday...little scared to get on the scale at the gym tomorrow since I didn't really stick to the diet this weekend!!!) Sadly, I don't know where I lost it from because I don't really see it but hopefully if I make the 20, I'll see a difference in this year's pics!!!

BTW, if you are interested in making some cute customs for your DD for all those princess encounters...come "join" us on the Disboutique Board...most of the my other readers are from there.

Ok so now I need to check out the boutique thing, but I am so not crafty, haha.

To answer the question about the weight loss it's been a LONG journey. I started almost 3 years ago. I was inspired by The Biggest Loser. I love that show. Anyway, I started walking and I did the South Beach diet for like 2 months. The weight just fell off but I can't stick to that diet, I need other foods. So then I lost some more on my own with portion control. Finally last Jan I started WW. I did it through July of last year, then took a break, gained 10 lbs, now I'm back on it. I still have 16 left to lose but I feel great, and I feel like I look good.

I really hope to be down 6 more lbs by WDW. But this weekend was NOT good for me either. I made some really bad food choices and I consumed way too much beer, lol. So now I'm back on it. I probably gained 2 lbs this weekend, but hopefully it's a lot of salt etc.

That is great you've lost 10 lbs. Losing weight is soooo hard! And food that is bad for you is soooo good.

I thought of doing South Beach....but just can't give up caffeine for two whole weeks...forget the food part of it. Although I keep thinking that it might jump start my system. WW just isn't doing if for me anymore. After I had DD I did WW and lost 28lbs like that (in addition to the 17lbs I gained during pregnancy). It's a lot harder this time.

I think South Beach probably would jumpstart your system. I know if I went back on that I would probably loose 5 lbs the first week. The last time I did it I lost 12 lbs the first week. It was HARD to do but I did it.

ish
Thank you! I did ask my mom whether that picture was taken either before or after going to Disney as she couldn't remember...so I'm guessing that means that I just wore Mickey ears around the house on occasion???

I did find a couple of other old photos from Disney that I will have to scan and add in. They feature some FABULOUS late 70s/early 80's attire and hair. Although that does not beat the late 80's photos that include spiral perms, high bangs, and tight rolled acid wash jeans...seriously...I could have been in Honey I Shrunk The Kids (you like that reference to your TR??? ;) )

We did briefly think about buying into DVC and if we had done it 5 trips ago...it probably would have saved us a ton of cash!! But this might :sad1: be our last Sept trip for awhile. DD will be starting Kindergarten next year and I'm not sure how I feel about pulling her out right at the beginning of the year. I orginally said that we wouldn't be going to Disney at all in 2009 :scared1: but now I'm rethinking that. I might try to at least do a long weekend trip...even if it's girls only. The plan is for her to go to a local Catholic school so I'm guessing that there will be plenty of long weekend/holy days that I can work around ;)

We do live in Boston and by "live in Boston", I mean we live about 30 minutes north of the city. It is a very fun city. I'm completely a city girl by nature. My dream is to live in a brownstone in the city :cloud9: BUT then I remember I'm a social worker so I'm guessing that one won't come true :) BTW, most of the city is Irish. I lived/worked in Ireland for a year and they knew I was from Boston not by my accent (which I actually don't have because I was a duel major in college...social work and THEATRE!!) but because there are a LOT of young people from Boston working in Ireland! They call Boston the "33rd County" St. Patrick's Day is a FAR bigger holiday here than it is over there but I'm sure you're family has mentioned that.

Hi I've been reading your post and enjoying it!! I'm part irish!! My MN is HORRIGAN! I BET YOU KNOW SOME HORRIGANS'S THERE ARE ALOT OF HORRIGAN'S THERE. MY FAMILY CAME ON THE BOAT AND LIVED THERE!!

We did have free dining on the bounceback but when we got the 40% off offer we had to give up the free dining...but that's okay, 40% is a much better discount!

If you see us around, make sure to say Hello!

And yes, I surely know some Horrigans!

Thanks for reading!

I mentioned using earplugs to my kids. It's really DS9 in particular. He might try them but would prefer not to be around them. So we'll just exit the parks prior to fireworks. I want to get quite a few rope drops in anyway.
