The smells of Disney World

I remember the smell of the Contemp and Poly too. But my favorite smell... the smell of Rome burning in Spaceship Earth. Many years ago I went to Italy with my sister, while in Rome, she turned to me and said "This smells nothing like Epcot". :rotfl2:

I LOVE that part. I hope they keep it in after the remodel :(

When I was working at FW, when the recreation cast members would come in after the campfire sing-along to put their keys in the lock box, I would always love how they smelled!

I think the Main Street Bakery smell does it most for me.... No wonder why I need Lypo!!!

I remember when the Boardwalk first opened - there was a Horrible smell there! Now it's one of our favorite resorts!

I did notice the Contemporary had a certain smell too.

And how can you forget the burning Rome scene in Spaceship Earth? I hope they don't remove it this fall when they're rehabbing the ride. I was really upset to see that SE was going to be closed while I'm pllanning on going. :sad1:

Don't forget the Horizons Pavilion... The smell of oranges in the harvesting scene.
That was just a touch of brilliance. I think that was the only scent in the ride...Undersea city and Spce colony had no scent...lol

I loved the orange smell on Horizons! They didn't exactly smell 100% real, but they still smelled really good and appetizing. I wonder what the Space Colony scene would smell like. Probably like a sweaty locker room. :rotfl2:

I'm still upset that they got rid of that ride. It was a favorite of mine. I found a really clean MP3 of the entire ride online several months ago, and it brought back so many great memories.

Horizons was by far my favorite attraction! Beautifully done, forward thinking, optimistic and entertaining! It was a true work of art.
I wish they could have left it there and buitl Mission Space at the already closed Wonders Of Life....What a real shame.

When I wasa kid I always remembered the smell of the Contemporary...it was probably just the scent of new carpet and all of those modern synthetic fibers...LOL but it had a very distinctive scent...like the Poly...and now if I ever smell either of those it takes me right back to being a kid again...

Totally agree! The Contemporary's always smelled like monorail fumes and French toast.

Well...over time things have changed....the Contemporary really does smell like French toast and monorail fumes now, but long before Chef Mickey's it had a whole different scent...
Does anyone remember the Mary Blair designed lucite trees in day-glo orange and green that used to be in the concourse?... Wow were they cool!

And while we are on the subject of smells, when Epcot opened there was the burning Rome Smell in Spaceship Earth, the fresh orange smell in horizons, and they had a swamp smell on the Universe of Energy... I always forget about that one.

They certainly hurt the eyes, but the decor was certainly "contemporary" for the seventies.

I also remember when the Concourse had lots more restaurants and lounges: the Pueblo Room, Cocarino Cove, etc.

Oh Yeah, The Contemporary was amazing! and really, those Lucite trees would look Uber-cool if re-installed today.
When they added Chef mickey's it sort of changed the whole flavor of the concourse... more changes are on the way now, it will be interesting to see what will happen in the next year or so with the DVC units coming.
