I always played The Sims on my old computer, and was pretty much addicted. I couldn't upgrade to The Sims 2 when it came out so many years ago because my computer was too old. I've since gotten a new computer.

For a few weeks, I've been thinking of purchasing The Sims 2, and it's on sale at Target this week, so it's like a sign.

So, is it fun?

yes! Its great fun!

You won't like it at first, cause the way you build houses etc will completely change and you will think you prefer the old stuff. But when you get into the game you will love it!

I have loads of the expansion packs, and it just gets better and better!

Be warned, it slowed my computer down a lot!

YES!
I have every single expansion pack and stuff pack.

If you can, get one of the Deluxe editions with some of the expansion packs built-in. There's one with the Nightlife pack, which is a must. The one with the Bon Voyage pack may be OK. I didn't think Bon Voyage was one of their best efforts. The Double Deluxe that will be coming out soon has the base game, Nightlife and the Celebrations Stuff pack.

With the Sims 2, you can buy expansion packs, which adds features, objects, clothes and enhanced gameplay, or Stuff Packs, which only add objects and clothes. In the original Sims, there were only the expansions.

Keep in mind that the more packs you install, the more massive the game becomes and it can really eat up the RAM. Make sure your new machine exceeds the minimum requirements for whatever you get, so you won't have a lagging and frustrating experience.

You may also want to peruse the BBS at the SIms2.com, since there is a LOT of great info there about hints, tips and help. There's also a big Sims 2 thread here on the DIS that's been around:

And if all this wasn't enough, The Sims 3 is around the corner! The web site will be updated with major info on March 19th.

OH WOW! How cool! I think I just might wait for that. Afterall, I waited this long, right?

I just hope my computer is up to snuff. I bought a new one a few months ago and I specifically had it designed to handle what I suppose the Sims 3 requirements will be. I'm looking forward to it, that's for sure.

My computer will crash just looking at the website, i will look lovingly at the box though!

This came from Games for Windows magazine. Articles and info about TS3 are coming out now.

www.snootysims.com is one of the best places to track news and tidbits about the Sims.

I was also hooked on the Sims forever. I didn't buy the Sims2 until last year. It was confusing at first but I got the hang of it and now I am obsessed. I go in phases though. I'll play it a lot for a few months and then I won't play it again for a month or two.

I have the following expansion packs...
Nightlife
Open For Business
University
Seasons

I also have a few "stuff" packs. They are expansion packs that basically just have more objects.

I think my favorite expansions are probably Open for Business (I love creating businesses) and Seasons.

I still don't have Pets. And although I really want Bon Voyage, I heard it does bad things to some people's computers so I'm afraid to buy it.

I highly doubt I'll be able to get the Sims 3 when it comes out. But I'm happy with the Sims2 for now. It's just an awesome game.

Did anyone play the Sims Online ever? I did a free trial of it once. It was okay...but I didn't really understand it.

Does anyone ever download Sims2 stuff from the sims website? I've never done it. I'm always afraid I'll download something bad.

I have before, and it works fine. Remember if someone else downloads that sim, house, story, etc... then if they find any problems with it then they can report it to a Maxis staff member. Also take in consideration that ALL objects(cars included) are made by the Maxis staff member MaxoidMonkey.

ETA: Just make sure you have the object manager before you download, just in case.
