Have you all gotten silhouettes done at the little shop on Main Street? We did it this time, and it was absolutely incredible! What an amazing, overlooked art! The lady we talked with had been doing them for 36 years. She had a tiny pair of scissors, and while chatting with my kids for about 20 seconds, little paper bits flying, she made their silhouettes. I swear, she hardly seemed to look at the paper or their profiles, but somehow captured them exactly.

Anyhow, I was amazed, and thought that it was an absolute bargain of a souvenir. I highly recommend it.

Yeah!!!
I never was too impressed by them until my wife insisted on getting one for my son last time, as she had one done as a kid. I just thought it was some kind of automated process..Had no idea it was literally hand-made !!

My husband and I had ours done in 2008 when we were still engaged. We were going to each have one done, but then she found out we were engaged and offered to do a bride and groom silhouette. It turned out so cool! We bought the frames they sell in the shop and had it sitting on the head table at our wedding. It now sits on our fireplace mantle.

I have one of my daughter from every Disney trip that she has had. Sadly , the one I had done as a child has been lost. I hope some day, my daughter will take her children in to continue this wonderful tradition.

I had one done of my grandson at DTD near the carousel. The guy there did calligraphy of his name under the silouette. He said the people at the parks don't know calligraphy, he is the only one that adds it.
It really looks so much better than the plain ones, he put his name and year on it.

One thing I love doing at the Park is going to the shop and just watching people get their silhouette's done.

The people that do them are incredibly talented. (Unless things have changed, they are not all ladies, either.)

I have a friend who got a silhouette done at DL as a kid, and her mom got one as well, and she took her son to get one a couple of years ago - just to carry on the family tradition.

Actually, one of our wonderful DIS-ers here, Pixiewings71 (Kerri), had a silhouette done - a family portrait in silhouette form, basically - and she very cleverly framed it and placed Disney character silhouette pins all around the perimeter of the silhouettes themselves. It was one of the coolest things I have seen - hats off to Kerri for her creativity! I hope she catches this thread and posts the photo of her fabulous DL silhouette frame and pins so you all can see how cool it is!! It would make an excellent gift!

I had one made a few years ago - it was amazing watching her at work! I got mine with Snow White's silhouette as well. I absolutely love it.

You must have gotten Sylvia?? We watched a YouTube video of her before our trip last fall. Her work was amazing. We were so hoping she'd be in there when we took our 3 boys in, but it was someone else. I was a bit disappointed. At first I could only see 2 of my boys in their silhouettes. Now, nearly 4 months later, I'm starting to see the 3rd. I framed them and put them on a ledge in the living room so I can see them every day. You're right...it really is a bargain. And oh yeah...the silhouette that I'm barely seeing my 3rd son in -- she did it while he was asleep in my lap! I couldn't believe how quickly she did it.

I think we did have Sylvia. There was another lady in there, as well, doing the framing, and "probably Sylvia" said that she and the other lady were two of four people who did the silhouettes. I *thought* she said four women, but I could be mistaken about that.

I also had just assumed it was an automated process! I guess I didn't think much about it, but just thought they snapped a digital picture of the profile and printed it black or something.

And, I think it was only $9 for the silhouette? And, you get the second one free. Of course, we had them both framed, which adds to the cost, but still very, very reasonable for a one-of-a-kind piece like that.

I would love to see a picture of this!

Does anyone know if they will do it off of a photo? Or will they only do it off an actual live model? I was wondering if they would do silhouettes of my two dogs.

Yes they do work off a photo. A side view is preferred I was told. I brought in a pic of one of my DDs off my iPhone and she worked her magic :wizard: it is incredible :) it's worth a try for the poochies :goodvibes

I have not had my silhouette done, because I hate my nose, have ever since I was 12 years old. But maybe, I will have a different silhouette done instead, I do like that idea. I just did not know until now, that one can have any kind of silhouette done.

Wow, Kerri/Pixiewings71's picture is stunning! I had a one of these done for DS ast our local fair when he was probably 10 years younger. Would love to have one done of our family in Disneyland ... is there a limit to the number of people they can do? There are 3 of us ....

We were there last week and stopped in because we always forget to have it done for DD. She is now 8 and have been missing this opportunity each time we come. We also had the CM who had worked there 36 years, she was amazing. If I find DH's photo, I think it we can see her nametag. She said she is not the only one. The store is open park ours I have only seen them have a "we'll be back in a while" a couple of times. When we went in there was about 2 families a head of us and unfortuantely it is a very small "shop" but within 10 minutes we were in and out of there, because she works her magic with paper and sissors so quickly. They can hold the pictures there for you to pick up later, but because it is original artwork, they can not ship to the hotel.

Also she keeps a supply of hairbands as if you want to pull hair back away from the face.

Yes..it's amazing and a wonderful economical keepsake. Plus you get two of the them for the price of one, so I gave one to the parents and kept one for me. I have 5 of them framed and when I take the other three in October I'll have all eight grandkids done. This is really a hidden gem!
