The Show Should Take Live Callers

I think the show really would benefit from live callers.

Yes I do realize they read our emails and the blogs but I think this increase their viewership

Also instead complicated trivia stuff for the prizes that could give the prizes live.

It's one of those things that may sound like a good idea on the surface but probably wouldn't work out so well. I do think a regular segment at the end of the show every week where they tackle a couple of email/social media/voicemail questions would be much better. I love the occasional solo shows Pete does where he answers questions. So an abbreviated version of that incorporated into each show would be great.

Oh god no.
It would slow the show down tremendously.

Every caller would do that thing every person does when they call a show "hey how are you guys doing?"
Because clearly, the answer is different from when the last 10 callers asked.

That, and spotty connections via Skype or cell phones.

They did call in shows before, and they weren't great.
It's better if they play a voicemail if anything.

I'm not a long time listener like some of you folks, but even I know that they used to do call in shows.
The sound was terrible, and they had the same people call in all the time.

Their listener/viewership is probably much broader now, but I still doubt it would increase their viewership just because you can call in live.

They have the voicemail option now, that's fine and it allows them to screen for crazies and salt.

I think a better idea for a segment would be similar to what they did with Mike (@CampbellzSoup)
Have a listener dial in via Skype for a segment on whatever it may be (international traveller's, road tripping to Disney, what it's like to travel with 4 children and 2 adults etc)
It's pre-planned, it's not completely off the cuff but still interactive.

Most of the "live" Call-in shows were pre-records and not live and Pete has a Hybrid, half-duplex, Call-in show phone. Audio quality is 8khz standard POTS audio. That phone sounds great. It is the crappy audio codecs that cell phone companies used at the time that sounded horrible.

I'm not techy in this realm, but regardless of what codecs and duplex are used, the sound wasn't great. But the voicemails are excellent! And in theory, a similar idea, but without the back and forth

It is really rather simple Telco theory: :mic:

I think Pete mentioned once that they would not do a call in show on their live shows, as they can't completely control what the callers would say. It would be too difficult to have the seven second delay and the kill switch in case something bad was said. Heck, they have enough trouble containing Teresa, and her fowl mouth. :)
