The Show Should Take Live Callers

Most of the "live" Call-in shows were pre-records and not live and Pete has a Hybrid, half-duplex, Call-in show phone. Audio quality is 8khz standard POTS audio. That phone sounds great. It is the crappy audio codecs that cell phone companies used at the time that sounded horrible.
It is really rather simple Telco theory: :mic:

I fail to see how this explains the POTS system enough to justify the lack of quality five years ago.

This diagram shows a 42V power source?

Typically you want 48vdc to 52vdc for battery voltage with ring voltage of 90VAC. 42vdc would suffice provided there is enough amperage for any inrush.

but if they did a live call in show it would require multiple lines as well as a screening process so two or more line would be active at the same time, all drawing from the same power. The diagram I saw would not support 6 lines with tow being active.

I would not enjoy a call in show. I watch the podcast to see what they have to say and what see what new information they have. When I want to know what listeners/viewers have to say, I come here. I can skim through responses or skip topics not interesting to me. Listening to people call in and start with small talk (How are you? You probably don't remember but I met you at Epcot 3 years ago. I was wearing the Mickey Mouse shirt...) would not be very interesting. And too many people have a tendency to go on and on and then that would put them in a position of either cutting them off and seeming unfriendly, or letting them go and on and boring everyone else. A quick reading of questions and answers from time to time wouldn't be bad.

I figured it was the baabaaboohee part.

I would love the whole idea of call in guests, but let's be honest, it could be very bad. Mike did a great job skyping in but I think he is more an exception than a rule. @Princess Jes would break the rating system on youtube.

Imagine all the thumbs down?!
It would be like the universal show, 2 thumbs down before the show's even started!

Love the idea... but also see the potential issues mentioned. :badpc:

What would be cool though is if they picked a number of callers/comments via voicemail or from the forums (perhaps in a new board topic) and call them back before the show. Record the Q&A with the caller and if needed edit it and clip it into the live show. :hyper2:

I am listening to another podcast (gasp!) that does just that, and they have managed to work it in seamlessly into the final broadcast. The problem is that it's a Swedish show in Swedish... otherwise I would of course have linked it here for the staff to check out. But I don't think it would make much sense if you don't understand one single word. :rotfl2:

I kinda thought about this a while then decided it would be a bad idea in my opinion. I feel like the 'casters cover most opinions on the majority of topics, further voices would just complicate things.
