Well, just found out on the news that Hurricane Rita is a catigory 5. If it doesn't veer off to one side, it will hit land as a CAT. 5.

So....thoughts?

It sucks. It really really sucks. There's not much to do other than hope it changes course.

Hoping for it to weaking would be better. Where else is it going to go...New Orleans?

Sersiously, i'm so sick of all these hurricanes! I feel so bad for people that lost loved ones and/or their homes.

With the tropic waters of the Gulf of Mexico the likelihood of it weakening before hitting land is very slim.

This is going to kill the gas prices even worse than Katrina did. They are talking about 5 dollars a gallon... It's ridiculous. And we can't do anything about it because we NEED gas. My health teacher said fill up this weekend even if you dont have to right away because by Monday the prices will be OUTRAGEOUS!!!

We have this kid in my health class - his name is Darius - and he lived in New Orleans - I've come to be real good friends with him now. His uncle is Otis Smith (ex-NFL player..) And his uncle just bought him and his family a house up here, so it looks like he will be staying here!!! But he's amazing!!! He's lost EVERYTHING and he is still an optimistic person. During the pep rally before our first football game 2 weeks ago he gave this speech thanking us all for letting him come up here and play football on our team, because he was so afraid of not being able to play football and not being able to get a scholarship and that he was just so grateful that even though he had lost everything, he didnt lose football... And he plays AWESOME!!! He's one of the top players here....

But anyways back to my point about these hurricanes... Like.. This REALLY sucks because it is affecting everybody, but I think its really awesome how even people who have lost EVERYTHING - their house, their school, their friends... they can still find a way to be positive about it, and be happy with the new life they are being given. Sometimes, even though its hard, we just have to look through all this and see the good... And these will end eventually... :)

...I never said I was worrying about them... I was stating a fact... The WHOLE rest of my post was about something totally different than gas, as I have seen first hand how this has affected people so I defenitly do not think that gas is that important...

I hope it doesn't cause that much damage. Two of my good friends I made on the DCL this past summer live in Galvasten, and Houston. I really hope they are ok.
and even if Rita misses New Orleanes, just the rain alone could be enough to break the levees. and they don't need that right now.
*prayers and pixie dust to everyone*

...speaking of gas prices, I know there is other important things to worry about, but I'm filling up my tank...

There is other ways for a hurricane to weaken. If it starts going in circles, that will weaken it.

I just read that it was degraded to a Cat. 4. The last thing the people in Louisiana area need is another major hurricane. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

What the heck is with all these STUPID Hurricanes!!! I hate it!!!!! it makes me REALLY sad when I think about it :guilty:

Hi guys, I haven't been able to post for several weeks now because of these stupid hurricanes. We just now got phones and internet back, and there are so many people here who are still waiting power. We New Orleanians/surrounding area people really don't need this right now, but I hate to wish Rita on anyone. At least it's a Cat. 4 now, maybe it'll stay that way.
*sigh* My family lost our entire business, and we're trying to build it up again. But at least we have our home -- it wasn't damaged very much. Just some caved-in places in the roof. Any prayers or Pixie Dust would be much appreciated. Thanks. :guilty: :goodvibes It's good to be back.

I live on the north shore, 30 min. from New Orleans. I have a lot of friends in N.O. too. Yes, my family evacuated, and we are all okay. My brother, nephew and I went up to Arkensas with a caravan of friends -- my mom and dad had intended to leave, go westward a ways, and then turn around and head back in, but they wanted me out of there so they sent me with my brother (he's 31). However, once they realized how bad it was, they kept going and stayed with family in huston. A week later we reunited, and another week later we were able to get back home. :teeth: It was a sad sight, but just because it was home, and that it was still standing, it was one of the most beautiful ones.
