OHh Bruce.....

So many great memories...

MY DH and I saw our 1st BS E STREET Band concert in November 1978...we were 15 /16 years old!! (
Thats one night I would go back to if I had a time machine)

One great night was when Clarence Clemens had his Big Man's West (East?) Club in Red Bank..... We saw Dave Edmunds and Bruce came on to sing of all things "oh Carol" (We moved about 10 feet closer to the stage without moving our feet when Bruce walked on..... )

I have more fondness for the old stuff...but have to agree about The Rising...

lots of deep meaning and imagery........

Nothing Man .........etc.

Carol in NJ

I was fortunate to have literally bumped into him in a doorway in Red Bank on September 12, 2001 where he and his wife (well she) was shopping. He was great
That's what i'm talking about. I know quite a few jersey folks my age with Bruce stories. DH who is more of a north jersey person then i am, and even today works in Red Bank alot has probably bumped into him and didn't even know it. It's probably for the best. I might want to make a fool of myself. I like the stories of folks who've ran into him at the stone pony or some other bar, drank and chatted together for a bit like he was just the guy they sat next to.

Oh and I want to add...if any of you fans of The Jersey Shore Sound...Bruce/southSide Johnny get a chance to...go see Southside Johnny!

This past summer my DH and I took our DD and a couple of friends to a teen night at Point Pleasant and we went a block down the Boardwalk to hear Southside (had not seen him since a Great Adventure concert when I was about 17).

SJ and his band sounded fantastic!!

(I used to think that someday I would get to hear Bruce at small clubs...just kick back , relax and enjoy...(as we all aged LOL) Then the Born in the USA album came out ......)

i've seen SS Johny and agree. Great show. Again used to go to his shows because it's always rumoured that Bruce will show up.

HAHA My DH old neighbor is a crew member for SS (has been for many years)
I really liked one song he sang and my DH asked his friend what album it was on.so we could pick it up....sure enough it was written by Bruce....

see what I mean. Everybody in jersey has a bruce story. Jersey folks could do 7 degrees from Bruce using people they personally know, much better then they could do Kevin Bacon.

I would bet its even closer than 7 probably 2 degrees of separation.....

(My DH worked the Queer Eye for the straight guy episode that re-did Kevin Bacon brothers apt. He met his Brothers wife and son ...... does that make us within 6 degrees of kevin ourselves?? LOL)

"roy oribison singing for the lonely.....hey thats me and I want you only...."

(Let's all sing along) You guys have gotten me so nostalgic with this thread...

....Roy Orbison singin' for the lonely, Hey that's me and I want you only....

:music: :music: :music:

]Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again
Don't run back inside
Darling you know just what I'm here for
So you're scared and you're thinking
That maybe we ain't that young anymore

Show a little faith, there's magic in the night
You ain't a beauty, but hey you're alright
Oh and that's alright with me

I finally heard Bruce sing Thunder Road live a few years ago in Dallas. It was one of the encores and I just wanted to cry. I've seen him in concert 4 times and after every concert I just want to quit my job and follow the band!!!

I came to the Boss late...the first concert was 1985, in the Cotton Bowl. I was hearing most of the songs for the first time. I can remember everything about that night...the temperature, how the sky looked, etc. Truly magical.

'"Show a little faith...There's Magic in the nIght......"

HAHa you beat me to the line...NoticeI did not include the "ain't a beauty but hey you're alright...." line...

One of my least favorite lines...though harsh I always forgive the Boss for honesty....LOL :rotfl:

One of my favorite more recent Bruce memories was at Meadowlands Arena NJ
it was the first tour with the E street Band after many moons.
( ok Byrne/ Continental...but always Meadowlands to me)

When he sang the line :

"you're scared and you're thinkin' ...we ain't that young anymore "

and he laughed!!

:rotfl:

Make crosses from your lovers
Throw roses in the rain
Waste your summer praying in vain
For a saviour to rise from these streets
it just told me my message was too short? why?

I, too, came to Bruce later - 1985 Born In The USA - My mid teen years but have loved him since, both old and new. Have seen him but would DIE to meet him or at least have a Jersey run-in with him

I need to type faster or something.... :rotfl:

but he sure has aged gracefully. I love the fact that Bruce is a dad now, living in NJ where he should be, married to another musician.

ITA!!
But don't forget he was looking out at the aging audience!! LOL :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I guess i find it more amusing since I really have aged with Bruce ..I was 16 at the first concert and now over 40....
:rotfl: :rotfl:
and I admit I have not aged as gracefully HAHAHAHA

`Cause down the shore everything's all right
You and your baby on a Saturday night
You know all my dreams come true
When I'm walking down the street with you

Sha la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la la la
Sha la la la la la la
Sha la la la I'm in love with a Jersey girl
