The Running Thread --2025

I did a fun little Santa jog yesterday with lots of snow and -10F windchill. It was a lot of fun. I spent the entire run catching up with a friend which was probably a good distraction.

Just discovered part of the run was on the weather channel. I’m not in the video but at least it proves I’m not the only crazy runner in town 😜

Kudos, but hard pass for me.
I did my run on Friday in 49-50 degree weather and that was hard enough on the lungs. And the walk today in 29-with-windchill was no fun.
The really cold stuff is more than I care for.

To each their own. 40s are my ideal temp. Below zero and snow isn’t great conditions but I’d much rather have that than 80s (and maybe even 70s). I wither in the heat.

I don’t even wear pants unless it’s below freezing 😅.

I’m usually not one to complain about runDisney’s free race shirts. But in comparison to the Orlando half this year (super nice long sleeve tech fabric quarter zip in a fun color), rD needs to step it up.

I will be at Pop, the fact that Myra is (was) there was an unexpected perk.
Did she become too much of a MW celebrity?

I did my last long run today before the Marathon. 16 miles. I know it’s a bit short but I was out most of October with tendonitis. I actually felt fairly decent at the final stretch and maintained my intervals pretty much throughout aside from fueling walks. Moving pace was right at 15mm and overall was 15:50 for a couple bathroom stops that I didn’t make any attempt to hurry. When I did 14 a couple weeks ago I felt like I could have rolled down the street faster in the last two miles haha, so this was a nice improvement. I started at 8AM and it was fairly warm (60-70) so that should be good simulation too

So the hay is in the barn and I’m ready for taper season!

Yeah, take it easy at this point. My tapering will be minimal, since my longest training run ("training run") was my Thanksgiving half. The longest otherwise was 8 miles. I went out today and did something like 4.5-5 miles (approximating due to forgetting to un-pause for about 1.5 miles after stopping for a phone call). After lunch, I headed to the local track and did a Magic Mile. The MM I did in August was 9:26, and today was 8:59. Progress!
So I'll keep getting in 3 to 4 mile long runs for the next week. The cold front coming in Monday is going to curtail the runs, so Tue will likely just be a brisk walk, then Wed is time to hit the road and start driving!
