The Running Thread --2025

November Running:
Total Distance: 135.5 miles
Average Pace: 11:19/mi

I ran the Philadelphia Half Marathon this month, part of Philadelphia Marathon Weekend. The security lines were very easy this time, the first time in years I experienced no wait. I did get there earlier than usual, though, but only by about 20 minutes. I heard from everybody that bib pickup was a nightmare, but thankfully a friend picked my bib up for me so I didn't experience that firsthand. The race itself was a great experience as always.

WDW Marathon Weekend, here we come!

Looking for people’s experience with putting fuel in your hydration packs. I ordered my first bladder for my new hydration vest. I have never used one before but increasing my distance in 2026 and curious if adding sports hydration to the flask ruins it or permanently makes it have a taste afterwards for just water? I use either tailwind or skratch powder. Don’t want to ruin it if it does but also love using those for fuel when it’s hot out.
I did an ultra in Sept with nothing but Tailwind for 8 hours in a newer 2l camelbak and had no problems after. Just clean the pipe and rinse and dry out the bladder (don’t put the lid back on it wet). It worked great for hydration, calories, and functionality. (Most of my runs are ultras or solo and I don’t like relying on the cups at the aid stations….my first formal marathon was at MW in 24 and I choked on the cups when I tried to drink from them…nothing new on race day.)

I’ve had a 3l since 1998 and i still use it on solo long runs with no issues yet, FWIW.

Rinse and clean the bladder and tube right away after each time you use it. Once a quarter, use Bottle Bright to do a thorough deep cleaning.

November miles: 100.1 (22:55:14 total time)

My third highest monthly mileage ever, and I have already hit my highest yearly mileage with one month still go!

Feeling pretty good considering I traveled this month. This weekend I did 4 on Thurs, 6 on Fri, 12 on Sat, and 5 today. Basically a first three days of Dopey simulation Thurs-Sat with some extra miles today. Legs feel good, and I feel like I could have run 21 more miles if I had to (but I’m glad I didn’t!).

I also read 7 books and biked 5.2 miles in November lol.

November totals:
Running: 79 miles
Walking: 12 miles
Yoga/Pilates: 7.5 hours

Quick race report - Madison Half Marathon on 11/9:
I am slowly trying to run a race in all 50 states. The hubby and I made the 5 hour drive over to Madison, WI for a weekend, so I could check off state #9. A cold front swept through the day before the race and brought a light dusting of snow overnight and windy & cold conditions for race day, but I don't mind running in 20 degree weather. The start & finish is at the capitol building and the course is a nice mix of city streets, parks, and lake views. My goal was just to run at long run pace and so that's what I did. I was super impressed that they served hot baked potatoes at the finish!! Overall good experience, easy logistics, decent expo, scenic course, and good swag (long sleeved tech shirt, winter hat, medal).

NOV 2026:
just over 13 hours of cardio. That's roughly the equivalent of 50-55mi if I were running, which I'm not as that time total is a combination of treadmill, spin bike, and basketball refereeing.

My achilles is improving, though it seems that my peroneal tendon is also showing signs of being cranky. I have a very busy next 3 weeks with basketball, and then I'll be on my own to maintain some sort of motivation until we leave for Disney in early January. Here's hoping it'll all be enough to get through 42.4 miles.
