The Running Thread --2025

May Running:
Total Distance: 76 miles
Average Pace: 11:07/mi

Sure didn't feel like I only ran 76 miles this month! Two races in there: Broad Street Run, where I blew up from going out too fast, and a local 5k last weekend, where I slowed down by 20 sec on my overall time from the last time I ran it. The temp this year was about 15 degrees lower than the last time I ran this race 3 years ago, so I guess that really is a slowdown and not just pacing error. Still I took my 3rd place age group medallion with pride!
I'm going to use a recycled DopeyBadger plan to train for a 10k for the rest of the summer, and as always, work on fitting in more strength training.

May total- 56.8 miles. Consistent again although slightly lower than March and April due to some family events (wedding and college graduation for nephews!) taking up two of my weekends.

Looking forward to our treadmill getting delivered on Friday! I think this will help my consistency tremendously as I won't skip runs due to weather and I can run at any time of day now, especially important for winter.

Have a 5 mile race next Monday and a 10K the Monday after that, though neither will be a full race effort. After that, I just want consistency until our vacation at the end of July and when we get back from that, the real Dopey work begins! I did add two races to my fall calendar, a 10K in Sept and a half in Oct, so I think those will be good fitness tests for Dopey.

May Miles = 111

Even though I have a half marathon next weekend and training starts this month for my marathon in October, it looks like my 100 mile per month streak, which now stands at 87 straight months running at least 100 miles, will come to end this month. I am doing a 2 week vacation later this month and I do not plan to run much, if at all on the trip. I feel like Cal Ripken when he sat himself out after 2,362 consecutive games. I thought for sure an injury would have derailed me at some point along the way. I am grateful that has not been the case…

April Miles = 113
March Miles = 122
February Miles = 105
January Miles = 105

2025 Total = 556

May miles: 55.
Feet of ascent: 2,963.

I made the mistake of looking at June's plan and doing a rough total. Should not have done that. One day, one week at a time. The end of this month is where my plan modifications will start to come into play as the long runs start surpassing 14mi.

I'm also in need of new "regular miles" shoes as my 1080s are all apparently dead and as a result are killing my lower legs. What were the asics that everyone was loving? Nova something? I may need to go try them on, otherwise I'm just going to order some saucony triumphs and hope for the best.

I really love the Novablasts. Super comfy. I have run in the 3s and 4s but haven't tried the 5s yet. You may still be able to find 4s on sale depending on your size.

Also a big fan of the Novablasts. I am still running in my last pair of 3’s. I skipped the 4’s, got a pair of NB instead but I am getting close to ordering a pair of 5’s. Heard they are even better than the 3.

May 2025

Running: 30h 45m, 195.5 miles
Strength/mobility: 6h 45m
Total: 37h 30m

This month I won my first real race, the Hero Dogs 5K9, for which I got a gift card worth more than the race entry fee. So that means...I have made money from running!! 💸🥳

I also ran my first track race, the Tracksmith Twilight 5000, which was an adventure. 😝 Recaps here and here.

May Running

110.9 miles

Started strong with a 1/2 PR of 1:51:29, so happy to have that for the POT.

Didn't end great, I didn't get out for a long run this weekend, just a 4 miler on Friday. Kid was sick last weekend, kinda worried I picked something up.

Hoping for a similar number to June so will see.
