Recovery month ❤️‍🩹

Recovery virtual marathon ran for real on June 2nd.
Recovery from it and from the nags and hurts.
Recovery from the lost of FIL.
Recovery from the end of their school year for the DDs, they both gave it all and did amazing.
Recovery from their planned summer jobs (imagine the ups and downs: A pool cracked, had a major leak a week before opening and the 22 lifeguards ended up scrambling to find another pool, most did, thanks to the neighborhood pools… The other DD got ghosted from her prospective employer and found something great instead).
Recovery from the realization that there wont be any big family vacation… planning a Winter getaway did help 😎

I now feel much calmer although still tired. I am still trying to take a summer rhythm where I can run, swim, bike and relax… And maybe do a little vacation? Anyway, I first have to celebrate the big 50!

I am planning to do the Harrisburg (PA) Marathon in November.

There is a very good chance that I might be doing this race as a catered training run for Dopey. I heard someone mention the "walk" option that has an 8 hour time limit. I'm not thrilled with the idea of adding a marathon - even at long run pace - a week after doing the Wine and Dine challenge, but doing this will take a 20 mile run off my calendar in October so I might bite the bullet and do it.

Maybe we can meet up?

I was hoping it would help some of my lingering body ailments…planter fasciitis in both feet and major hip discomfort being the big ones, but here we are 5 weeks later and it’s all the same.

My rule of thumb is that if an injury/issue is bad enough to stop me from running, it is time to see a medical professional. My physical therapist drilled into my head that time off alone almost never permanently "cures" an injury. It took me a while to believe him, but now I do.

Just my unsolicited two cents...

Happy that I kept my 100 streak even with a vacation with only a 5K for a week. A little upset with myself that I skipped a run post vacation simply because I didn’t feel like it. It’s been forever since I’ve done that and don’t want to start that habit. Time to stay consistent and ramp up for an end of August marathon.

June Running
184.2 miles

Started training for Chicago this past month. First time following a structured plan (Hansons). So far so good, minus the whole joys of training for a fall race during summer.
Good luck with your summer marathon training. I think that you'll enjoy the Hanson's training plan. It worked well for me training for a half marathon and I'm going to use it to train for Dopey 2025 as well.

For what it's worth, I am going to change one aspect of the structure for the week (based on something that I saw Luke Humphrey had written in one of his blog posts and that he mentioned during a podcast) and move my second SOS run back by one day to give my body more of a cushion between the two speed SOS sessions. My personal plan is to do the Speed/Strength SOS workouts on Monday, Tempo workouts on Thursday and my long run on Saturday.

Not too much to really report on this month. Summer has fully set in here in central NC, which means the options are to broil while running during the day or try to catch slightly lower temperatures in the morning and drown because the humidity is near 100%. I generally opt for a well-rounded mix. Next race isn't until October, so it's mostly just maintenance running right now until things really ramp up in August.

This will be my first time doing the Harrisburg Marathon. I picked it because it is relatively close and looks like a flat course. I have not officially signed up yet as the next price increase is July 31. But I'm planning to be there. Hopefully we can meet up! I'd love to hear about your Wine and Dine experience from the week before.

Hey y'all, we're officially halfway through 2024! 🎉 It's also my birthday so twice the reason to celebrate 🥳🥳. Anyway, I find mid year to be a great time to check in on how things are going and make adjustments if needed.

QOTD: How is your running journey going so far this year? What momentum are you looking to keep for the next 6 months? What are some things you'll be happy to keep in the past? What are you looking forward to most for the remainder of the year?

ATTQOTD: After marathon weekend, I had a bout of over training in the spring. I was actually in the middle of a self imposed week off when I was notified that I had won an entry into the Marathon Pour Tous!! I quickly pivoted and started adjusting my life and training for this once in a lifetime opportunity.

The one thing I'm most proud of in the last few months is my somewhat consistent strength training. My goal is twice per week and it's definitely making a positive difference in the number of aches and pains. It's still the first thing to go when life gets hectic, but I'm getting better about setting aside the time and energy to get it done.

In case it's not obvious, the thing I'm most looking forward to is taking in the sights of Paris by running the same streets as the elites 🇫🇷🏃‍♀️🥐

June Miles: 24.6 i don't normally post my mileage but so happy i have runs to count this month.

So far running is still going. I am now up to 1:15 run and a 2 minute walk. PT said to start increasing the running interval. Next week I will do 1:30. Since i am signed up for the half at wine and dine, my secret goal is to be at 3 min run and 2 min walk for training, but i will be happy with a 2/2 if that is the best i can handle. Strength training is still going strong (see what i did there).

ATTQOTD: my running is going pretty poorly so far this year. I completed a grand total of 4 runs for the entire month of June. I keep thinking that this week is the week I turn things around, and I keep getting thrown off track by one thing or another. I have to to find the key to consistency before Dopey training starts at the end of August.

So....QOTD....somewhere in the last month--probably went I went back home to visit and then to KS for Unbound Gravel--I just bailed on following any kind of training plan. But since I have pretty much given up racing, I guess it doesn't matter. We've had some crazy heat/weather, so I've just been going out 4x/week and running easy. Yesterday was gloriously cool, albeit windy, and I did 9 miles.

No grand ambitions for the rest of the year. Just to keep healthy and keep running--and honestly, that's not a bad thing.

June running: 67 miles

ATTQOTD: In terms of consistency, running has gone well for me this year. My paces are a little slower, but hey, I'll take consistency over speed at this point. I've always struggled with strength training in the past, but I'm happy to say I made it a priority for the month of June. I managed to strength train 3 times a week for the last 4 weeks and I'm hoping to continue with that into July. By August I'll probably drop the strength to two days a week as my marathon training ramps up.

I am most looking forward to the NYC Marathon!!! It will be my first time in the Big Apple and what better way to see a city than 26.2 miles on foot? :teeth:

ATTQOTD: Things are going well! As is wrote over the weekend, I missed my B corral POT but some things are out of my control.

Started DSW at the be of the month and am loving it. I have switched to HR rather than pace and it’s working great for me and my medicated heart. Sometimes running for pace is really defeating for me when I have to run/walk so this has been much better by letting me stay in the “band”. I have been following it closely it so I’m running more consecutive days but my recovery has been amazing so improvement there! I’m using it for my next race in October where I’m trying again for a POT (for next season) Hopefully I’m finally successful!
