The Running Thread--2024

I’m just saying now: as a Floridian…

I will be complaining about the summer heat until it breaks.

I will also complain about the cold in winter.

I will relish with absolute delight those days when the temps are just right.

This is the way.

Here in PA, I've been reminded that I actually can run without feeling like death!

All summer, it's been T+D between 130-140, and I just felt like *#&#@) most of the time.

Yesterday, T+D of 110, today T+D of 93.

It was like I was young again :rotfl2:

It's supposed to get to 105º F here today, with a "feels like" of 109º. Definitely too hot, ready for some cooler weather.

I ran 5k at 7am this morning, by the time I finished the "feels like" was up to 84º. That was fine, but any later would have been brutal..

Yeah, I had to run after work yesterday, instead of at lunch, and it was T+D of 137 and the sun came out, after being cloudy all day.

T+D~110 here this morning! 😍

But I still felt like hot trash because I did a 12-mile workout and lower body strength yesterday 😂

Did something else I havent in a while this morning... Workout went like this, walk 1/4 mile, easy jog for a mile, then 8 - 1/4 mile repeats with 45 seconds rest between each, cool down 3/4 of a mile. We are experiencing fake fall so it was 70 with low to us humidity. Felt awesome.
On a personal note, I now know exactly why I hate doing 1/4 or 1/2 mile repeats and much prefer tempo runs for speedwork lol. Hope everyone is having a great week!

Can anyone comment on how BolderAthletic/SparkleSkirts (not sparkle athletic) skorts and shorts run for sizing? A little big? A little small? I may have found a few for a price I'm willing to pay, but I'm unsure of the size.

For what they say on their sizing information, I think it is about right - but maybe size down?? I don’t know that I would go off the ‘size equivalent’. I would say for most jeans and normal clothes now, I am a 4-6, but I wear their size S (not XS). My waist is close to the small measurement (upper range) and my hips fit more in their M and L range, but actually fit fine in a Small. I have had a couple XS that are okay if they are Swing Styles, but too tight if they are more fitted like the CasualFit (the style I prefer) and FlutterCut.

oh my gosh I feel like a moron not checking to see if their website was still up. i recall last year there was a big announcement that they were closing?!

I have probably 20 of them and it really depends on the cut. Probably 90% of mine are classic swing style. They are generally true to size, but if you are between, size down so they aren't moving around on you. If you plan to stuff the pockets, stick to the swing styles if you don't want to see all the bulges.

They went into bankruptcy but are still operating, though they are pushing custom orders right now to help cashflow.

My past experience has been that anything I bought secondhand used in FB groups fit almost a size bigger than the label. Whereas every one I bought new fit true to size, using Athleta and CRZ Yoga as comparisons. I rarely wear them at all, so mine haven’t been worn or laundered a lot… but I can definitely feel that the stretch all around gets looser over time. The used ones are really too big for me to wear at this point. The ones I bought new are fine, albeit a touch looser than when they were brand new.

This is true, but there is a hack. I've added a drawstring to the waist on some of my older ones (or those that ran strangely sized. It's really easy to cut a slit in the inside waistband and add a toggle.

For old time sakes here I go with a QOTD: Anyone with a race this weekend or maybe taking on a new distance you havent done yet?

ATTQOTD: Nothing crazy for me this weekend. Kinda a recovery run weekend, plus my sons 7th birthday party is this weekend so I have to finish my run early Saturday morning to not cause conflicts with that. The good news, is my pup gets to come run with me and she loves our car ride and run around LSU. Gotta keep the doggo happy too! Enjoy the upcoming weekend and week zero for the college football fans out there!

ATTQOTD: I'm running Fort2Base in suburban Chicago for the fifth time this weekend. It starts at the historic Fort Sheridan Army Post (now an Army reserve center) and finishes at the Naval Station Great Lakes (the largest Navy training station). The race is 10 nautical miles long.

10 nautical miles = 11.5 miles

Although I have never served, I enjoy the atmosphere, the swag, and the cause.

An off the wall highlight last year at the post race party was an authentic 1920's mess tent serving Sh!t on a Shingle faithfully replicating the original recipe. George Patton ate it when he was a private at the Fort, as did over a half million other WW I, and WW II recruits. Not bad when washed down with a couple of beers.
