Fellow Floridian here! In my experience, a lot depends on how much sun you'll get: 50, cloudy and damp would be full-length tights and pullover on top of a tee for me - and that's once I've warmed up. But I ran a WDW Marathon with temps that hovered around the 50ish mark for much of it plus sun and I was down to the tights and a tank by maybe the halfway point. BUT I was so chilly immediately after finishing, I was very glad I still had a light long sleeve tied around my waist.Um. Chicago is gonna be cold this weekend for this FL girl. I am at a loss for what to wear. Low 40’s at the start and high 50’s at the finish.
I am thinking…..t-shirt, throwaway arm sleeves, throw away gloves, capris and throw away ear headband thingy??? I’ll have throw away sweatshirt, sweatpants, Mylar blanket and hand warmers for the corral.
ETA: hello perfect racing weather![]()
I bought an extra sweatshirt from my local race director from an old race for like 10 bucks to throw away. But right after races in the cold I am putting on dry clothes on top. Otherwise I get sick everytimeFellow Floridian here! So I think my advice is a combo of layers you can toss and some you can comfortably hang on to. Also HIGHLY recommend a cheap fleece blanket under the Mylar: I find Mylar alone doesn't warm me, but that fleece is better than a warm up routine for keeping me limber while waiting in the cold!
Wishing you a GREAT race!!
I have been watching too. The women’s winner ran a 2:51 marathon!! That’s nuts!Watching the women’s Ironman world championships right now— these athletes are amazing.
Also they call passing another athlete a “Maurten Move” lol. Sponsorship at its finest.
Yay!!! Go friend! The winner also has an 18 month old… wild. I’m so so so glad they did the women’s event on its own so it wasn’t overshadowed by the men like usual.I have a friend competing today. She just started the run. I’m so impressed by her. She is a surgeon and has 3 young kids. I do not know how she finds the time to train, much less qualifying for Kona.

I hope they'll also showcase young dads tomorrow. It was a great image seeing Chelsea Sodaro with her daughter, but it's always on us to be moms. What about dads to be dads? I saw this comment on Carissa Galloway's IG and I thought, um, shouldn't the person have written "taking care of his kids"?

Sorry just my editorial for the day![]()
Additionally, did he receive the insulting comment that he's "Mr. Mom?" People are really horrible sometimes.Absolutely! That babysitting comment is so annoying. My husband is a stay at home dad and when our kid was little he would get comments like those from time to time when they were out running errands or going to the park. He was always like, “Not babysitting. Taking care of my kid.” Even now, schools, dr offices, etc default to calling me first even though he is listed as the primary contact because they assume as the mom, I am the one who will take care of all that stuff. I used to just do it. Now I tell them to call him and remind them he is listed as the primary contact. The gender roles are deeeeply ingrained.
And, yeah she’s fast. I’m pretty sure that’s slower than her usual IM run time. Probably due to conditions. I would be soooo happy if my marathon was that fast!
Oh, yeah. Weirdly, only ever got that comment when the kid was really young, like baby/toddler age. IDK why people think it’s so unusual for a dad to be alone with their baby. Family bathrooms are more of a thing now but then (only 13-14 yrs ago) they were uncommon in our area and the men’s didn’t always have changing tables. He got good at a lap diaper change and complained about the lack of tables all the time!Additionally, did he receive the insulting comment that he's "Mr. Mom?" People are really horrible sometimes.
Oh man is that a pet peeve of mine! Around here, 10 years ago or so, many of the men's rooms did not have changing tables but the women's rooms did. Really frustrated me because it made it difficult to take my kids out by myself. I even complained to Target corporate about it because a major corporation like that can certainly afford to put in a changing table!Oh, yeah. I think I can get you 90 free days of Peloton. They have some strength programs that I like and also you can choose your own.Any suggestions on strength/core workout programs I could do for the next month?
