The Running Thread - 2019

QOTD: Keeping with yesterdays theme a bit, Sunday daylight savings time begins. Who is looking forward to having a little sun in the afternoon to get your runs in without having to worry as much about cars being able to see you?

ATTQOTD: I am looking forward to it while its still nice outside, but will hate it when its a billion degrees outside. I do look forward to getting the majority of my runs outside starting soon though!

I'm not an evening runner, so the time shift does not impact running, but the general lengthening of sunlight hours is helpful for AM runs.... as soon as the temperature cooperates. Nov-Feb it is dark when I stuff the kids in the car to go to work and dark when I leave work and this is depressing, so the sunlight is a large part of why I go through the trouble of running at work.

Yes!! Bring on the sun and longer days! I've never been so excited to lose an hour of sleep :)

@LSUlakes can you add another race for me? 5/5/19, Lincoln Half Marathon, no goal.
Is this the Lincoln, NE half?

Wow that sounds like a really good race. I've done the Myrtle Beach mini in the fall but never the full. If you want giant beach medals the Big A.. Medal Series along the Carolina coast is pretty interesting. https://coastalraceproductions.com/2019-big-***-medal-race-series/
In the past not only have the medals been huge, but if you do more than one race the medals have magnets in the sides so they connect together.

I've heard good things about the MB mini with the giant surfboard medals! Might do that one or Charleston half.
I've seen the Coastal Race team at just about every expo and they've been sending me a lot of emails. Looks like fun.

ATTQOTD: I do all my weekday running in the evening, so I’m very much looking forward to the time change. I much prefer being able to run when it’s light out so I can see and be seen much more easily.

The MB Mini is not a bad half. You do spend a decent amount of time running around the Broadway at the beach parking lot though.

ATTQOTD:
I run after work during the week so it's nice being light out longer (although it being dark again in the morning is the trade off). Give it another month or so and it's back to the best of both worlds.

ATTQOTD: I run right after work so it hasn't been getting dark on me. I am NOT looking forward to the dark in the mornings before work again. Not running, just hate driving to work in the dark. Too many animals out here in the boonies to worry about hitting.

ATTQOTD: We don't have Daylight Savings here and daylight hours are pretty much around 7am-7pm year round. But currently I'm at a phase of work where I can get home just after 6pm, which is fantastic as it means I get to do at least the first part of my run/walk in daylight! Definitely prefer running during daylight to running in the dark!

(That being said, I've done a few runs later at night. The upside of running later is that the weather is cooler, and there are fewer bicycles so less bicycles to dodge! I think I've mentioned bicycles a few times here, but they are really the worst bit about running where I am...)

ATTQOTD: I despise DST with every fiber of my being. I HATE having it light late into the evening, HATE that the "extra hour" of sun means an "extra hour" of scorching sun and heat here in FL, and HATE that it screws with my internal clock. So a few years ago, I simply stopped observing DST. :) I change my clocks so I'm on the same time as everyone else, but I adjust my work schedule to come in an hour later and stay an hour later, so I basically stay on Standard time.

I'm looking forward to it being light later. As it gets hotter, I run more in the mornings, so it won't really affect that, but when I do run in the evenings, it will be nice to be able to go later. Plus I work from home and right now, I have to force myself to go run right at 5 and then come back and finish work, so I look forward to just being able to finish up work and then go running.

ATTQOTD: Bring on daylight savings. Then I can run later when the humidity is down. I am more of an evening runner anyway. I struggle with mornings...

I'm thinking it must be Smuttynose, that's the only one I can think of around here that could even be remotely described as flat. :D

That was what I was thinking as well. But wanted to make sure I am not missing out on another flat course. They can be hard to come by around here.

Awesome! I went to college in Lincoln (Go Big Red!) and this is just a couple hours from where I live. It's known for being a great race!

I'd love to run it, but am waiting on a different plan that "might" happen, before I commit.

I also went to college there :) This will be my second time running it and I love the opportunity to see the alma mater!

It’s whatever to me. I think I have come to the point where daylight savings isn’t a necessary thing anymore.

ATTQOTD: It's Daylight Savings time already? Wow!!
