The Running Thread - 2016

QOTD: With Christmas this weekend and the new year the following weekend, what do you plan to do to get your runs in during this busy time of year?

No changes in plans for me. None of my family is local, and I'll be seeing them in WDW in January any ways. My wife's family doesn't celebrate Chrismas heavily being first generation immigrants from Asia. Her parents will probably stop by to visit our son on Christmas as they do every Sunday, but other than that I'll get my runs in as planned.

ATTQOTD: All of our siblings are going home to Northern CA for Christmas, and we are the only ones still here in Utah so this Christmas is going to be a pretty relaxed holiday. Getting my workouts in shouldn't be too tough. It's really been the past couple of weeks, as I have been getting ready for Christmas, that running has been a challenge!

Considering I work Christmas Eve at Lambeau I won't be running at all that day. We will see if I get a run in on Christmas Day as my mom probably will want my help preparing things.

ATQsOTD:
No running camp for me.

I have a Nike running jacket I bought from Ross/Marshalls, which is pretty awesome but I haven't broken it out yet this year .... mostly because I forgot I had it and I run really hot. Usually wear a thin windbreaker or one with a hoodie for the rains.

I've learned so much from this board and its members. There's obviously @DopeyBadger with his awesome training plans and advice. But foam rolling and a tiny change in my running stride has really helped me a lot with avoiding injuries and running slightly faster with the same effort (though it could just be running in the cold).

I'm scheduled for a 15 mile run this Christmas Eve. So that'll be fun! Also, it'll be my longest run. Previous was an accidental 14.7 with no water. :faint: Can't wait to put out cookies for Santa with my little guy and then watch him open the presents the next morning! My family flew in and extended family are coming over for Christmas, but they're aware of my running craze. We usually do a redux of Thanksgiving dinner for Christmas dinner, but seems like I'm the only one who likes turkey. :confused3

Anyways, luckily the next week is a low mileage week, so hopefully I can knock out 9 mi New Years Day after New Years Eve festivities the night before (I'm gonna see one of my favorite bands perform!!!).

@LSUlakes, sorry to hear your cold/sinus is back. Best to get healthy first, running is the cherry on the top

@ebradley23 - you deserve that sticker! Way to go!!!! :worship:

For all those with injuries, hope you guys feel better soon. Also, so impressed with everyone running in freezing temps! :cold:

QOTD: With Christmas this weekend and the new year the following weekend, what do you plan to do to get your runs in during this busy time of year?

I had plan to run my last "long" training run before my marathon on the 15th of January, 20-22 miles, but with the ITBS i have, not thinking that is advised. Seems like after a week of elliptical and cross training, I get it back to manage only to aggregate again while running. Last week was 10 miles. I will probably try a light run Saturday morning now instead and see how bad it flares up and determine whether or not I should even attempt the marathon on the 15th. I have another registration for early March so i need to decide if I should really take 4-5 weeks "off" and then try for the one in March. Very frustrating.

I have 12 miles scheduled for Christmas Eve and 15 on Christmas. We will have a house full of guests for both, so I will get out very early and be done about the time that everyone starts to stir. No small children, so no Christmas morning craziness. But I need to be back for Christmas morning breakfast. That meal is always special.

A proper breakfast is always special...love that meal. Can't beat a breakfast done right.

ATTQOTD: I have a shorter run this weekend, so I plan on doing 4 miles sometime on Christmas Eve morning. My big run is 9.5 miles on News Year Eve, so I have a feeling I might be fast asleep before midnight!

ATTQOYD: I started running regularly again this year and I've learned a lot! Being "ok" with walking has made running SO much more enjoyable for me.

ATTQOTD- now that all my races are done, my only job is recovery. I'm going to sub aqua jogging this week for any running I would be doing. That means I won't be able to do anything Christmas Day. We have a small family (I'm and only child married to an only child with an only child). My parents are flying in on the 23rd, but they encourage us to go out for our runs when they're around. It gives them a chance to stuff our kid full of potato chips. My son's little finger may be tiny, but my parents wrap around it just fine. :)

QOTD: With Christmas this weekend and the new year the following weekend, what do you plan to do to get your runs in during this busy time of year?

Unlike most folks here who are starting taper mode, I am just starting a new training cycle this week (for the Dark Side weekend), so the excitement of a new cycle will keep me motivated. Plus, I will be taking time off work, so it will actually be less busy than normal.

ATTQOTD: I am doing two different trips in the next 10 days, so this hip injury comes at a good time for me to take a break from my PHM challenge training. Right now I'm planning to rest it until Jan 1. I am seeing a doc to have it checked out tomorrow morning, though. If they find a miracle cure, I may be back at it! I had already adjusted the "important" runs (tempo, LR) to days that worked better so most of them are just shifted a day earlier or later.

ATTQOTD: I don't have to run at 9pm like usual!!!! I have from this Thur all the way through Jan 2 off work. So my plan is to get those runs in during daylight whether outdoors or on the treadmill (weather dependent.) I may even do some 1 milers in between my normal run days just because I can (a luxury!) Since hubby will be home too I very well could have a running partner at least a few times if weather cooperates. Have to do it while kiddo is learning at preschool though :)
Looking forward to it!

Not busy for us since we're not doing anything. I'll run Friday, swim & run on Sat & Sun, and fly on Monday. After that, it's a week of running in Florida and then race time.
