QOTD: What is your ideal weather conditions for a race? What is your worse case scenario weather wise for a race?

Ideal for me would be 60-65 degrees, overcast and with a light breeze. A gentle mist is usually welcome, too, as long as it's not enough to soak things like shoes.

Worst case would be anything below 40 degrees. I get cold very easily and hate being cold. Alternatively, any temperature with a driving rain would also be worst case.

QOTD: What is your ideal weather conditions for a race? What is your worse case scenario weather wise for a race?

Ideal: 45 degrees, overcast, slight breeze (had this for the Dublin marathon a year ago and it was fantastic)
Worst: 85, humid, direct sun, with no breeze (had this for a trail marathon in NE Australia, longest run of my life)

ATTQOTD: Ideal is based on the distance and time of day. The shorter I run the warmer I can tolerate. If the sun isn't out, I prefer warmer temps. Ideal for long distance is 45 (sun out) - 55 (after dark) with no humidity.

Worst weather is either over 75 and humid or under 50 and raining. I always hate the humidity, but I don't always hate the rain. I only hate the rain if it's cold out.

I always say that I need to "embrace the suck". For me that means that I remind myself how awesome it is that I choose to run when it's miserable outside. It feeds my ego to think that I'm doing something most people won't do which makes running in miserable conditions a little more tolerable.

Ideal for me is cloudy skies and the temp between 40 & 50 degrees. Worst is sunny, hot & humid. I can handle hot & humid okay, but when you add the sun, it's all over for me. And for as humid as it was for the WDW marathon this year, I was so thankful that it was cloudy, otherwise that would have made for a very miserable first marathon experience.

Love that mantra. Very non-Disney admission: I replay the song Highway to Hell by AC/DC over and over again in my head in order to get down Osceola from AK to WWoS

For a 5k or 10k, I am willing to accept a much broader range of temperatures and relative humidity levels, but ideal would probably be about 35-40°F, low humidity, with light to no wind, and no rain.

For a half marathon or marathon, I would prefer 45-50°F, low humidity, with light to no wind, and no rain.

Worst case: 30-35°F with heavy rain and high wind. Actually, this is probably not worst case since I likely would bail on the race if these conditions were present.

ATTQOTD: Ideal = 60-65, 70% humidity, slight breeze - just enough to stir the air a bit, lots of passing fluffy clouds in a blue sky. Worst case scenario: temps under 40 combined with rain/sleet.

Oh, and #TeamSmartWool socks all the way! :thumbsup2

Ideal would be between 40 and 45, low humidity, and no wind. Worst case would be cold rain and wind. I like running in snow and down to even a little below 0 is fine but rain when it is between 32 and 50 is just brutal. The Cleveland marathon this year was the worst long race I've even done weather wise.

Best conditions are in the high 40's or low 50's. Don't mind a breeze. Worst are anything in the 80's or hotter and humidity. The older I get, the more I hate the heat. I know that being from the south, I should be fine with the heat but I just can't stand running in it.

@LSUlakes, would you mind adding a race for me on December 17th? It's it the Suggly Sweater 5k. I am running it with my husband and 5 year old so no time goal.

Speaking of headphones....I hate ear buds. I don't dislike them (you know like traffic or the flu), I hate them (like cancer or people that go through the express line with 20 items).

For years I ran in a very basic set of Sony over the head headphones. They would last a couple months, get drenched with sweat and I would throw them away. Well, I haven't used headphones in quite some time but with come scheduling changes I'm going to be doing more treadmill running than I am used to. Well, I head on over to Amazon to pick me up a new pair and these puppies (used to cost about $12) are $92.....yes, thats right....$92.

Koss makes a set I can order from Wal Mart that I am going to try but this is ridiculous.

I used to love these headphones!! I would buy 4 or 5 at a time when I was in college because they would break so quickly.

edit: I just clicked on the Amazon link and it told me I purchased these exact headphones in April 2009 - 3 pairs for $8 each. Lol!

I am usually on top of this stuff but what did you do?

After Princess last year, I was diagnosed with bursitis and ITBS and started PT. It's much better than it was, but because of various health issues that I've had, I keep having to start over with mileage. Now I have a weird work schedule and I've been sick, so I'm already late on Princess training for next year, and I'm having to start over yet again. At least I'm doing the 5K/10K instead of all 3 next year.

QOTD: What is your ideal weather conditions for a race? What is your worse case scenario weather wise for a race?

ATTQOTD: Ideal weather would be 35 at the start, winds out of the north around 5 mph, partly cloudy and low RH (Low for Louisiana). Worse case would be above 75, no wind, 100%RH, and sunny and not a cloud in site.

That sounds great! I get so hot when I run, it has to be colder than some people are probably comfortable with. I have run in below freezing weather with short sleeves before.
