Finished the marathon in 3:56:12.

I also earned myself a pair of shoes with negative splits! I was :09 seconds faster in the back half. I almost cried crossing the finish line, because I knew I met all my goals. Guess I need to figure out which pair of New Balances I'm interested in.

Awesome!!!!!!!!

In today's fun news, I made the official IMFL race video twice!! You can find me at roughly 7:42 and 8:50.

That is awesome John.

I was just watching the IM Florida, Louisville, and North Carolina Race Days.

Tomorrow's the first real test of my "alternative Dopey training program" - my first significant long run since Disneyland Half (eight miles). I'm back in Texas now, so I've had to swap the swim portion for extra running ... like today, I ran for 45 minutes (did not track distance, only time) and then I rode my bike on the trail for just a little over two hours (I wanted to get to 25 miles for my longest ride yet).

At this point, frankly, I'm feeling pretty confident despite being significantly behind on where I need to be mileage-wise at this point and still managing active recovery from two pretty serious injuries.

Next week is my first step-back week and then my next race is the Thanksgiving 10K that's my current 10K PR. I don't foresee much of a time improvement on that bad boy, but it will be nice to go into a race feeling good ... unlike my last race weekend.

Sounds like you are subliminally training for an Ironman ::yes::

What do you say? :lmao: Lets start talking you into doing one or did John @FFigawi start this at IMFL. :rotfl:

THat is awesome! Yay free shoes! Update us when you get them :)

Had my longest run ever today--7 miles! We won't talk about how long it took...

But it was also one of the first cold days around here. I'm sure I've missed a conversation about cold-weather gear, but what do you guys do differently? I guess that seems like kind of a dumb question--you add layers, but how do you balance staying warm and not being too hot? It was about 55 degrees when I started, wearing capris, a singlet, and a long-sleeve tech shirt. It was okay until the sun set a little and dropped to 45 degrees. I think a fleece or something would have been too hot, though. Is there some "sweet spot" material I should be looking for? I wasn't so cold I couldn't run, but my skin was freezing. How am I going to survive winter??? LOL.

Oh, @FFigawi is very convincing, but there will be no IM in ole Keels' future. Ever.

But he is correct about a sprint triathlon in my city next year that I'm tentatively eyeing ...

You will do good with a Sprint. I have done 2 and I enjoyed them. I was supposed to do an Olympic this past summer before mom passed. Her health and caring for took precedence.

Exactly what you said - layers. I've read a suggestion that you dress like it's 10 degrees warmer than it actually is since you'll warm up when you run (though...sounds like the opposite happened to you!).

I also use this to help me pick stuff out: http://www.runnersworld.com/what-to-wear

In regards to layers. Sometimes when I'm not sure, I will do a lap that comes back to my house and either ditch a layer or add on. Because this requires huge self control on my part not to just call it a day once home...I tend to have backup waiting in the backyard so I don't have to go inside. Just an idea. Works for water bottle hydration too.

The sprint has a pool swim, and I'm already way past the mileage for all of it now, so I think I could do well!

I would definitely love to go for an Olympic eventually as well.

And maybe if I could get close to a 2:00 half, I'd consider a half. But then I'd need a fourth (yikes!) bike and that would mean getting rid of my cruiser that I love so much ... we shall see.

But I've really enjoyed this training - and had a great run today.

Relaxing with one of my besties by this bad boy right now:

For a 55 run, I would have gone in a short sleeve and Sparkle Skirt. I am going to wear that tomorrow at my race even though it's going to be in the low 40's when it starts... when it ends, it'll be closer to 50-52 and I tend to run hot/sweaty. I am crossing my fingers I'm not too cold. :)

In the colder weather, I wear capris in the 30's usually with a half zip with a short sleeve shirt underneath. In the 20's, I have some fleece lined tights (Sugoi brand) and will layer more under my half zip (either a long sleeve or a short sleeve then long sleeve if it's getting into the lower 20's). I also have a NB jacket that I got last year that I liked for low-20's, but it was very snug last year with shirt layers under it (I still have a chunk of weight to lose, and am right on the edge of being able to fit into most brands XL gear as far as fitted stuff like that goes), and I have gained back 10-12 lbs in the past year, so, I do not think that I'll be wearing that jacket this winter. :(

I have some heavier/thicker Sugoi tights for low 20's or 10's, and my jacket should have also been ok in the 10's, but I still get real cold in those temps, especially in the butt. I need butt warmers build into my tights.

Also - I JUST got a road bike. I think I will be dead before I'm allowed to by a tri bike.

The first Sprint Tri I was on an old rusty mountain bike. Then I picked up a Giant TCR1 road bike from a friend for the second and every Tri I will be doing in the future. The Austin 70.3 will be on this same bike.

The way I am looking at it for me is to go faster I need to drop some weight and train harder.

Thanks. Basically I'll just add 20 degrees to all of your estimates and use that for your suggestions! LOL.

I definitely need some better tights.

Yay! Team Giant! My hybrid and my road bike are both Giants!!

My city/hybrid is a Liv Alight and my road bike is a Liv Avail with disc brakes.
