QOTD: [/B]How do you feel if you miss a few runs?

I think it's more of which run(s) that I miss. If it's a weekday run of 4 or 5 miles, then it's not a big deal. If it's a long run on the weekend, then I'll try to figure out a way to make up the miles...depending on how early or how late in the training it is. If it's real early in the training, then I don't sweat it, but if it's mid-training, then I'll figure something out so that I don't feel guilty about missing it.

I skip weekday runs all the time, but I do not like skipping my long run. I'm having a lot of trouble getting back into the training mindset this season, but I need to get my poop together asap. May 14 (my first half of the year) will be here before I know it.

Last year I did all my long runs (all my runs) for Tink on the treadmill from January to mid-March because the weather in New England was so terrible. I went all the way up to 10 miles on the treadmill and only made it outdoors for 11.5 and 13 before the actual race. This year I have just been miserable the last 4 weeks trying to do a long run on the treadmill and all I have managed is 4.6, 3.0, 4.25, and 3.0. :( This coming Saturday is going to be warmer but raining and I have a 5K race.

ATTQOTD: Like some have already said, I get a bit concerned I may lose some of my fitness or it may snowball into bad behaviors. But, I end up getting back into it and find the rest is actual a positive and my next run feels great because my legs are so fresh.

ATTQOTD - I really dislike missing runs. If I miss 1, I'm fine, 2 is pushing it, but anymore days and I feel like a blob. I try to run 5-6 days a week even if it's just 2 miles at a time. I just took 3 days off for this never ending injury stuff (that I thought was better, ugh) and it felt so good to get outside today even if just for 2 miles. When it's freezing cold I don't get as down about missing the days, but if it's nice out, it's depressing. Weights and other 'working out' is fine, but it doesn't make up for not running.

QOTD: How do you feel if you miss a few runs?

I really hate missing runs, or even cutting runs shirt if I have to do that for some reason. I get really pissed at myself. I missed three runs at the end of last week due to a combination of laziness and cold weather. I have run in colder, but for whatever reason I just wasn't having it last week. They were the first missed runs of my training plan. No I have to make sure I get back on track and don't let this become a habit.

Did anyone else get into the Space Coast Half?? Probably going to be my 'A' race of the year as its the flattest of all the halfs I've signed up to and because my younger sister (who is slower than me) has said I don't have to run it with her and it can be her first solo race - I do love her! I've also never been to the states when its been Thanksgiving so looking forward to that!

ATTQOTD - I don't like to miss runs and if I know something clashes with my plan I try and jiggle my week around beforehand to compensate. However if nothing can give then missing the odd one I'm not too bothered about. Missing weeks because of injury though is another story....

Bummer, I didn't know that this was a race that sells out immediately. I had been thinking about maybe running it this year to combine with a visit to my parents.

Saw on Facebook that it sold out in 7 minutes. Luckily me and my sis were all done by 14.04 (9.04 EST) but it was a stressful 4 minutes!

So score one for the non runner husband..

On our walk today I mentioned that I thought the couch to 5k zombie app would be fun to do together.. So then for the rest of the walk I got to listen to how to survive a zombie attack would be to hunker down for x years as out running them wouldn't be practical..

I took that as a no for the running app... Sigh

But what if your bunker is exactly 3.1 miles away at time of initial attack?

Congrats to @DOOM1001 and @gjramsey on the race and PR's over the weekend! @Nole95 how did you race go over the weekend?

QOTD: How do you feel if you miss a few runs?

ATTQOTD: Terrible! I become very lazy and frustrated. It's a snowball effect of I just need to rest to feel better and the excuses just add up, when in reality if I just get out the door my thinking becomes clearer and I feel much more energized.

I get frustrated, and physically I feel it pretty quick. I end up in a bad mood, because running is definitely my "me" time and my de-stressing mechanism. I generally only miss short midweek runs, I can always find a way to fit long runs in. I try not to miss too many, but with kids too young to leave home alone and a husband with a tough schedule it simply can't be helped sometimes.

Congratulations to all the runners this past weekend, looks like you all had some pretty great races!

Well you tried. I hear a lot of people say they hate running, and it makes me thing back to when I first started. I hated running, or so I thought. It's not that I hated it at all, it was just a lot of hard work. Once you get to the point where you can run for 30 minutes and don't feel like you need a medic, that's when you really start to enjoy running. A lot of people are not willing to put in the week/months of hard to work to get the benefits. We are a instant gratification society, and running doesn't work that way. Bravo to you for trying, and keep trying.

I get upset at myself. My issue is morning runs, especially in winter. As in this morning when I was supposed to get up and run. It was about 15 degrees and a little fresh snow. Came up with 50 different things to do and then ran out of time so had to get ready for work. Then I spent the day at work mad at myself... My own worst enemy. You are absolutely right, once I am out the door I am so glad I ran!

Same here. So much easier to just go out and run when all I need to do is throw on a sparkleskirt or some capris and a tshirt, not perform acrobatic feats and get myself into my heavy fleece lined tights, find a couple of layers, find my gloves, find the warm socks, etc. :)

[ wish there was a magic way to make someone who doesn't like running enjoy it a. My wife has done two half's but she hate running.
I wish I could help her enjoy it, but I know she has tried.

I think some people try and run too fast too soon and that's why they don't enjoy it. I often don't enjoy speed or tempo workouts.

QOTD: For your runs, do you tend to run out the door or do you drive somewhere? When you do drive, what motivates you to do that? Is it terrain?... a change??? meet people??... So what's your story?

ATTQOTD: During the winter I find myself driving to our office gym to run on the TM. It isn't ideal, but neither is starting a hour plus run at 7PM. Normally I just run from home where I can get in anywhere from 2 to 10 miles without covering the same ground to much. Now the weekends I drive to the "lakes" by campus. Its about a 20 minute drive, but it's full of people running and the group I try to run with usually meets in the area. I do enjoy running with a group, but it doesn't always work out. Could be because the type of workout they have planned is very different than mine or I just need to start earlier than the group to get back home.

I agree, but I know many people who have tried running several times and still hate it. I get it - I have tried biking many times and still hate it. Different strokes, and all that.

You want the people that you love to get moving, but in a way that they will come to look forward to like we do running. The key is to get them looking for something like that, not to push them into something that we like. Biking, swimming, yoga, weight lifting - so many options out there. They all work.

I can go out my door, and do for my hill workouts, but I have to drive about 5 minutes to get to an awesome trail network, so I do that most days. I love trail runs, I prefer to run alone and with my wife, but my runs alone are very important to me.

I have a very stressful career, and running is my "down" time. I do not want to run with friends - ever. I don't mind racing with friends, but I don't consider races to be part of my down time, so I actually enjoy the company. In fact, other than my wife, the only time that I enjoy running with others is in races. If I come across a friend on a run, I say hello and will chat for a few minutes, but I cut it short and get back to my run ASAP.
