The Running Thread - 2016

1/22/16 QOTD: Do you display running items in your house or office? If so, give us a description of your set up.

ATTQOTD: Yes to both. At my office I have a medal hanger with the quote in my signature box. It holds only 9 items and I place all my marathon medals (except Boston 2013) a few half marathon medals and a very unique one from the 10 nautical mile race I did a few years ago. I also won a 2nd place overall trophy for a small 5k I did last year that sits in my office. At home I have a old LSU shower (fabric) curtain that hangs on my shed door. (Real classy lol) I hang all my race bibs and extra medals on it. I usually write my finish time and date on each bib on the back of them.

Yup. Here's my wall o' medals

Office: framed 1997 Chicago marathon poster - gift from my brother who I ran with
Home: framed 2002 (inaugural) Ironman Wisconsin poster - seven friends, including myself, all finished

Those both sound really awesome

I do! My room is a refurbished attic and my closet is a hallway between two rooms (a living space and bedroom) each side has a long pole for hanging clothes, one pole is used for clothes but directly below the other is a dresser for all of my folded clothes. My medals hang on that pole instead. I also have a bib book that holds my bibs but that's not as exciting. :rolleyes1

That sounds nice. What was the 10 nautical mile race you did and why is the medal so unique? (Picture?)

Embarrassed to say all my medals are in a bag in the basement, t shirts in the closet, and bibs are in the bottom of a dresser drawer,
Only items I have at the office are a vinylmation marathon Mickey from 2015 Dopey and a picture collage of the 18 races that I did in 2015, nearly all of them with family and friends. Probably my favorite memento.

So, who is running today with the crazy weather across the country? Our high in Baton Rouge is 47 today and current wind chill is in the lower 30's because of this 20 mph wind. Going to be cold all weekend. Maybe if I could just run a route today with the wind at my back and have someone pick me up at the end...

I'll be running this afternoon. It will be around 20 here in the Twin Cities, with minimal wind. Definitely better than the sub-zero temps we had all last weekend. It might even get above freezing by Sunday. Almost time to switch to shorts and short sleeves.

The finishers medal is just really cool IMO. The race is ran in Millington TN early June. 10 nautical miles is ~11.5 mile and the course runs near the navy's horses (There is a better term for this) and part of the race also runs in the base itself. It was just a different experience for me altogether. This is not my picture, I ran the race in 2014 but the medal is the same minus year and time it being ran.

I'm trying to figure out. We're in the midst of an ice storm and the locations where I'd usually use a treadmill are closed.

It's been in the balmy teens at night up in NY State. I finally found that if I use a second running headband over my nose I can keep my cheeks from freezing- the rest of my running gear keeps me warm enough and I'm happy as long as the sidewalks are dry. So far so good, but I do have a pair of Yak Traks for if things get messy. My mother keeps reminding me that last year it was -25 and stayed that way for weeks, so I am embracing this tropical front!

I hang my times in the hallway (picture is a little outdated now). Going to have to add a 3rd board after this last Dopey. Told my wife we're going to need a longer hallway too :D.

My first Dopey is across the hallway on the other side. In the middle is a Disney hand-drawn Dopey with my times and "I DID IT" on it.

The rest of the Disney medals are above the time board on a curtain rod all nicely folded to display the character's picture and the distance (no picture). The other race medals are in the basement around my childhood trophies from various sports (no picture).

Today is my off day. But I'm set on running outside this weekend for my "long run" and Sat shows 30 and sunny vs Sunday at 37 and cloudy. (vs the 2 degree weather last week)
So if it looks fine tomorrow I'm forcing myself outdoors. The treadmill is only so fun for so long.

That is an awesome medal. Guess there will be a trip in the future for that one. What we do sometimes :lmao:

@DopeyBadger I love the idea of the chalkboard squares (I assume they are chalkboard) to write your current PRs. That's a neat idea!

So many awesome ways you guys are celebrating your achievements, I love it! All I have is a little collage with some old race bibs, but I have been meaning to get around to doing a whole bib-covered wall in my gym.

I got out for my lunch run and it was -9ºC (16ºF), which actually felt warm compared to the beginning of the week.

hmm..let me see if I remember them all

2/6/16 - gjramsey - Katy Half Marathon - 1:42
2/14/16 - gjramsey - Rhythm and Blues Qtr Marathon - :50
3/21/16 - gjramsey - Rock and Roll Dallas Half - 1:37
4/24/16 - gjramsey - Texas 10 Sienna 10 miler- 1:15

ATTQOTD: I have a hanger board in our main family room from the Container Store with all my medals hanging for different hangers, so most are visible. I have a binder for my Bibs and Finisher Certificates.
