The Running Thread - 2016

Drink your Emergen-C, people! I took my daughter to visit a friend who SAID she and her baby weren't sick, but when I got there, they were both sneezing and she was all congested--and now my daughter and I are both sick! I am SO MAD, hahaha. I was planning a two-week taper, so my last long run would be on Christmas, but now I'm all messed up because of this dang cold. Plus my baby only wants to sleep in my lap because she's so congested, so I also haven't slept in a few days. So seriously, I totally vote for bubble wrap!!

The timing of the Disney marathon so close after Christmas is just asking for runners to be sick. The year I did the full I came down with a cold that really didn't subside until the day before the race. Even flying in I still had a cold and I couldn't get my ears to pop on the landing. That was excruciating pain. Between all the people out and about and family/friends gatherings with kids that are basically petri dishes I often have at least a little something right after Christmas.

I caught a cold a couple of weeks ago. Fortunately, it was a head cold so it only delayed my 12.5 mile training run. But that's definitely the downside of January races. Stay healthy and/or get better!

My rD training group decided that they are not running this weekend. It is 33 degrees outside and raining, so they decided to bag it. They ran 6 miles with me on Sunday in 38 degree rain, and they said that they are not doing that again - EVER! :lmao:

Guess that I am running alone. I told them that I was bummed to be running alone on Christmas Eve, but that was really just to try to get them out the door. The reality is - I have a house full of guests and I am looking forward to a little "alone time".

Merry Christmas everyone!

:santa:

I got 12 in yesterday, but suffered a setback. Been battling ITBS, or at least I'm pretty sure it's that, got shooting pain in my knee right at 2 hours yesterday. Could walk no problem after, but could never get started running again. Rest of the day the knee felt unstable and twice the stabbing pain came back while I was walking. BUT, it's not nearly as stiff as it usually is today or yesterday for that matter. Mildly concerned that I tore something, but it does feel more stable today. I did try IT straps for the first time yesterday. Very frustrating, looks like my marathon in January is out of the question. (Was hoping for 4-4.5 hours yesterday).

Was going to go 10 today and tomorrow. Glute was still hurting, so didn't run at all. Need to make another appt with the Doc for Monday. I am not happy.

I managed 4 miles this morning - which felt better than it has in a little while. The cold weather is getting to me though - 20-30s - takes my muscles longer to warm up. Sidewalks were mainly clear but some stubborn icy spots that require some jumping around, which messes with the pace a little. I did make it home before the rain started though!

Enjoy the holidays everyone!

No running for me during the holiday break. The child watch at the gym is unpredictable and I don't like me leaving my kiddo sitting while I am out don sight at the track. MMY calves have stopped cramping since I've stopped running.

Anyone else having issues with disboards not loading Ora lot of lag time?

Long swim yesterday for me, and 2.5 miles of hill work today.

DW has her next follow-up with the MD tomorrow (stress fracture left foot). Hoping she's cleared to return to running. Been boot-free for almost 2 weeks now.
