The Running Thread - 2016

@camaker......you're almost there! Best of luck with your marathon. (How is the weather looking?!!)

Thanks! So far the weather outlook is mixed. No chance of rain, but temps around race start in the 45-50 degree range. That's a bit cold for me. I'd much prefer it to be in the 55-60 degree range. We'll see what happens to the forecast as race day approaches, though. Not going to put too much stock in a prediction 7 days out...

Hey guys, I have this pain in my foot. I'm going to see a doctor tomorrow but until then anyone want to take a guess as to what it could be? My symptoms don't totally match any one description I've heard.

It's located over the ball/beginning of the arch. It seems to shoot up to the third and fourth toes every now and then and hurts when I flex my foot (usually when I pull it upwards) and it is more painful when I run than when I walk. If I walk without shoes or with flip flops I almost don't feel it at all, I feel it in my running shoes if I tie my laces too tight and in my work shoes because they narrow and hit that part of my foot. It started when I woke up on Friday. I had run 10 miles the Sunday before, then 3 miles on Tuesday, then swam about 1.3 miles worth of laps in a 25 yard pool on Wednesday. I did nothing on Thursday because I was busy and all other runs occurred after it started. There's no visible swelling and I can walk around the house without noticing it before feeling it again.

October Totals

Total Miles: 50.84 (thanks to a short 5k course) + 4.66 mi swim
Running Time: 11:05:22
Average Pace: 13:05 min/mile

I'm sorry, @Anisum , I don't know what that could be. Definitely do not run again before you see your doctor. I hope they can find what the problem is quickly and give you something for the pain. Good luck, do keep us posted.

Congratulations on your run, @roxymama ! That's so awesome, and your time is amazing! :smooth:

Anyone with Halloween plans tonight? We're staying in and watching Titanic (well, the sinking was a catastrophe, so I guess that counts as a horror movie? :p We just like the film!) I went on my usual 5K today and the run was terrible, mostly because I had huge Spotify issues (my playlists just won't work outside unless I'm on premium & download them. Try running with a song that stops every 5 seconds... it was a nightmare). The upside is that I saw A LOT of people coming out of their Disney hotel in full costume to go to the park's Halloween party and the costumes really blew me away. I saw two Snow White, one Aladdin, one Robin Hood, one Maleficent, someone with a Scream mask (made me super uncomfortable but I guess it's the point) and the BEST was two girls walking hand in hand, one as Ursula (no idea how she was walking in that costume but she rocked) and one as Ariel :) Put me in a really good mood. Halloween isn't huge around here so Disney's just about the only place where I'll see costumes tonight!

Well, I've got one more SUPER run tonight, but here are my totals with that included:

October Training Summary

Total Miles: 113.3 miles
Total Duration: 16:40:25
Average Pace: 8:50/mi

The month started off with my "A" race for the year, the Milwaukee Lakefront Marathon. I managed a PR, but suffered an injury of some sort during the race. I've been trying to be extra cautious about coming back, so my mileage and duration have fallen short of what I scheduled. However, being able to attempt a BQ in Fall 2017 is priority #1 (over Dopey) so I'm willing to do whatever it takes for that. Post-4 weeks from the marathon I'm starting to feel more normal, but I really am still sore (more than usual). I finally have my MRI in a few hours for my leg (only been a month since the injury occurred... :faint: ) so I'll know more about my running future soon.

I think someone else had this same problem a few weeks ago, so they may be able to help out with a recent fix. I had a similar issue a long time ago and the cause was inflammation of the tendons in the foot. There are different methods you can use to tie your shoe to help, ice, anti inflammatory meds, ect. Once race season was over I took about 6 weeks off before running again. So if its the same problem you can make it a few more weeks, but long term the answer is rest.

ATTQOTD: I still have a run tonight, but with is, I think I'm at 105 miles for Oct. No injuries and no illnesses, (knock on wood), so all goals met!

Having dealt with nearly a lifetime of tendon issues, I have to say this screams "tendonitis" to me. Which tendon/s I don't know, and it's possible it could be the beginnings of a stress reaction, too, so I'd get it checked out!

October totals: 107.2 miles with an average pace of 9:52/mile. Should have been five miles more but I had to cut a 15 mile run to a 10 miler today. Overall I am pretty pleased with how I did this month. Only missed one scheduled run and today's run was the only one that got cut short.

I will be escorting Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and Jessi tonight for Halloween. Hope everyone has a good night!

Could it possibly be a Mortons Neuroma? Anytime I see something about the 3rd and 4th toe, that's wear my mind immediately jumps.

I've never before participated in the monthly totals, but here goes.
I did 28 total miles in October. Not that impressive, but considering only 6.2 of that was prior to October 17, when I started my fabulous @DopeyBadger training plan, I'm feeling pretty good! Since starting that plan, i've only missed one training run.

November will be a challenge, as I'm traveling for three weeks to five different cities in Asia. (Unless touring Shanghai, Tokyo and Hong Kong Disney parks can count as runs!) But every single run is on my calendar, with all the details. I'm packing my running gear and have scoped routes and made sure all my hotels have treadmills, just in case. Here we gooooo!

October summary

Total miles: 96.05
Total time: 14:16:23
Average pace: 8:55

I had a pretty quiet month. My only goal was to keep training and stay healthy, so I suppose I succeeded.

Seems like it was a big month for strong races and lots of PRs around here, so congratulations everyone!!

Monthly Total: 147 miles

In trying to follow my plan with the taper to the marathon I ran two weeks ago and then tapering back up, so to speak. My numbers were not as high as I would have wanted, but were where they should be. I did get in some quality trail miles though and hope to get in some more before the snow comes back for winter. I have a year goal of 1800 miles and given a very strong November and solid December I just might get there...

Good job to all putting in the miles! We are very lucky to be able to pursue this addictive hobby! @DopeyBadger thinking of you and hoping the MRI came back with good results!
