QOTD: Do you lace up your shoes differently than what most consider the standard method?
Just normal for me, although I do use elastic laces for triathlon.

ATTQOTD: Normal laces for me. I know my sister uses that heel lock lacing for her work shoes, but I've found I do not need it.
I think my husband has something different for his laces from the shoe store guy but I can't remember exactly if he stuck with it or went back to normal???

And thanks @CheapRunnerMike for posting those tri-laces because I think my hubby would like those and now we can spend more money :) What brand is that?

I think those ones pictured are Speedlaces. Lock Laces are good too. I've used a few different brands and never had a problem with any of them. You shouldn't need to spend more than $10 for a pair, that's what I pay in Canada and everything seems to be cheaper in the US.

ATTQOTD:

Normal laces for me as well. My shoe, the Asics Gel Noosa, is ostensibly a triathlon shoe so it comes with elastic laces and regular laces. When I take a pair out of the running rotation I remove the normal laces and put in the elastic ones and continue using them as slip-on shoes for around the house.

I have heard only amazing things about Tieks. Sadly none of the reviews were from people with high arches so I'm hesitant. Do you think they'd work?

My little foot (left foot) has a slightly higher arch than my right foot - mostly because of all the surgery - and they feel great in Tieks! IDK if it's the combo of the material used or if it's just the benefit from the split sole, but they're worth every penny.

On my left foot, I skip one set of holes in the midfoot because my foot is formed weird and it makes everything more comfortable. My right shoe is normal. I'm looking in to some locklaces, though, because it feels like I'm always stopping to retie my shoes.

ATTQOTD: I use the heel lock lacing, but not the way the picture shows. My sneakers always have the extra eyelet that is really close to the top one and offset a little that you're supposed to use for that. The picture makes it look like it's just being done with the last 2 eyelets.

ATTQOTD: I had extender tendonitis last year and tried the "ladder" lacing pattern. It worked great, no more pain so that is how I lace all my shoes now.

From a previous poster......................
Quick question ... with the summer running, I've had a few issues with bugs flying into my eyes. I wear hats, but the darn gnats get into my eyes and they hurt! Do you all wear running sunglasses? If so, what do you recommend? Maybe I should run with my head bent down?[/QUOTE]

MY ANSWER: I wear sunglasses ALL The time (except when it rains, or dark, etc). My eyes tend to get sensitive to bright daylight and it keeps bugs, grit, and dirt out of my eyes. I have a pair that I purchased from the sunglass vendor at a race expo for about $15.00. Every expensive pair of sunglasses ends up being lost, scratched, or sat on within 30 days of purchase.
Comfortable and cheap works for me.

I wear glasses all the time - except when I run. I have contacts for running and I do not wear sunglasses. I'd rather deal with the occasional bug in my eye than the constant issues that come with wearing glasses when you run.

I understand about the preference for glasses. I wear glasses for early morning runs but contacts the rest of the day. No better feeling than getting sweat and salt trapped in your contacts in the heat of the day. I am considering Lasik this winter to eliminate glasses or contacts and some of these issues.

Interesting. Might have to try the first option as my toes do tend to get sore during long runs.
So far I take the lazy approach and just wear the shoes however they were laced in the store.

I wish all shoes were like my Columbia hiking shoes with the laces and a little "thingy" that cinches tight by pushing it up.
Shoes never come untied!

I have mutant feet and on top of that I've had bunion surgery on only foot. Now that I've finally found wide enough running shoes (thank goodness), I now have a love/hate relationship with socks and lacing. Something always seems not quite right and can be different depending on the day. I use the heel-lock lacing, but sometimes that makes the lacing too tight on that top part of my foot, so I have to find the perfect balance. The other day I had the lacing too tight on my forefoot and got weird arch pains after my run that freaked me out (went away after some massage and taking my shoes off).

I tried some elastic-type laces (https://www.hickies.com/) but they are too small for my wide feet, even with their option for lacing for wide. By the way, if anyone is interested in these I would gladly part with them. I ordered multiple pairs (to get free shipping of course) and they are just sitting in the packaging taking up space in my house. I don't remember what colors I have, but I can check when I get home.

I successfully signed up for Star Wars Light Side 10k today! Yay! We aren't doing light and dark this year, so I thought I would do the 10k just because I want to (say what??!). Bonus is that my niece and her husband will be running too; not to mention their cutie of a 3 year old running the kids races! Yay! @LSUlakes please add me to the list for January 2017; I'll determine a goal after the DLH weekend. :)

Y'all must be running cooler races than me because I can't recall seeing anything unusual being handed out at a race. And I lace my shoes normal. I guess I'm rather boring today, lol! :P
