The Running Thread - 2016

Anyone here use www.athlinks.com ? Stumbled upon it a few months ago and was impressed with the amount of information it gathers about races you have done.

Cool link, I just tried it. It finds all my Chicago runs but none of my suburban/local runs. I'm going to play around to see if any of the suburban ones show up.

QOTD: When not training for a particular race, how far is your long run for the week?

Usually in the 10-15 mile range but there are a lot of dependancies. Weather, time, how much I feel like exploring, where I am etc....

I don't really use it actively but it has pulled most all my races.

I always plan for the entire field ahead of me to make a wrong turn, and although I will yell at them to go the right way (because sportsmanship) they will not hear me over their music, and I'll just have to suck it up and get the first place trophy.
But it never goes as planned.

I actually had this happen a few years ago! It was a really small local 5k race, maybe 150-170 entrants, and at about mile 2.5, the volunteers were letting folks go straight when the route was suppose to turn left. There were probably 10-15 people ahead of me, but we were pretty spread out by then, so I couldn't yell at anyone ahead that they were going the wrong way. The scary part was that there was a really busy street the next block, so runners were crossing a major street without anyone to stop traffic. I stopped and told the volunteers there that we were suppose to turn left, not go straight, and also mentioned to them that people they let go straight were crossing a very busy street with no police or volunteers to stop traffic.

I then turned left and finished the correct route. I had no idea that not one of the runners ahead of me had made the turn, so I ended up being the first across the finish line. I immediately told the race management what had happened and that they needed to go find any of the runners that went straight.

Once everything had settled down, I did get a chance to talk to one of the runners that was in the front group of three. The leaders made it another mile down the road before finally realizing that something was wrong (and that they should already be at the finish line). None of the three were from the area, so they didn't know how to get back to the start. Two of them went one way and eventually asked someone for directions; the third went another way and finally found his way back.

Needless to say, results were never posted, and that race has never returned... BUT, I can finally say that I crossed a finish line first!!!!

Yes, but I only check it about once every six months. Kind of fun to look at your race progress over the years - they even have results from a few races from as far back as 18 years ago. Evidently, I used to be fast. What happened?

It sadly only has three of my races. I must run too many "small potato runs" even though the Chicago-area suburban races are frequently quite large. That should change this year as I branch out more to more established races.

Cool link! It was able to pull up what I think is all of my timed race results to this point. I can't think of any that aren't on there. It's awesome, because a few months back I tried to find the results from a race I did in September 2014 (to compare to the same race in 2015) and couldn't find them on the event's website or through searching. The result was on there no problem. :thumbsup2

I'll post my link later if I remember.
