We were up at about 9ish this morning and couldn’t wait to fling the patio doors open to hear the sound of the sea whilst laying bed.

We had the usual toast and coffee in bed this morning thanks to Alison. It didn’t take too long to get packed up and ready to go and the maids called a couple times to see if we’d gone yet (although it wasn’t past the check out time).

Last lingering view of the beach before leaving

So many people were leaving today (due to room rate increase at the weekend I guess) that there was a bit of a bun fight for the luggage trolleys. On our way down to the car we passed on the boogie boards and noodles on the way out to another family with two boys.

We loaded the car up and reluctantly drove away from Vero Beach. I have to say that for Alison and I this was a brilliant part of the holiday this year – one of the main highlights. I can’t see us coming to Florida and not staying here now! The girls did enjoy it but said that they’d not be bothered if they didn’t stay again as they just love the theme parks.

On the way out we all shouted “Goodbye Porpoise Spit”! in homage to the end of Muriel’s wedding!

Getting back to Orlando was fairly straightforward but a bit dull. We stopped off at Circuit City to see if we could buy a charger for the camera. What a lot of faffing about to say the answer is “no” even though they sold the battery we needed (just not the charger). We may just have to buy a cheap digital camera to finish off the holiday at this rate!

We stopped for some gas on the way home just to be on the safe side and ate lunch in car as we went – French bread and ham and fruit.

We finally arrived back in Orlando at the Royal Pacific Resort at Universal at about 2pm and checked in where the girls were given free children’s gifts (etch-a-sketch) to much laughter (although they played with them quite a lot!)

We asked about the cost to upgrade to club level but it was too pricey at $100 per night so we decided to leave it as we were. We were all staying in one room for the next two nights which would be a test for all of us as we’ve not had to share at all this holiday!

Our room was ready (room 2706) and they delivered the rollaway soon after we got there. We’d decided on paying for the rollaway for Laura so that the girls didn’t need to share a bed (then we didn’t need to listen to the moaning all night!)

View from our room

We had a coffee (loved the coffee makers in the rooms here!) then went for a short swim in the pool to freshen up before heading out to the parks. No real deep area in the pool which was a shame.

We went to IOA this afternoon as Alex couldn’t wait any longer and we did the big rides including Hulk a couple of times. That FOTL access is wonderful!

Standard Universal pose

We left the park and went straight to the car to drive out for a bite to eat and we ended up at Pizza Hut on I-Drive to satisfy Laura’s yearning for pizza. Not what the rest of us would have chosen but hey ho! Got to keep everyone happy! 2 x large (and they were very large!) pizzas, 4 sodas total $48.

We went back to Universal Studios to see the fireworks for the first time ever – it was the 360 cinemascope show, which was very effective! All clips of well known films projected onto massive revolving globes. The girls didn’t watch as they don’t like fireworks so they did ET instead and we met up afterwards.

We queued up and got the boat back to room to crash out. I wasn’t looking forward to the next two nights- all having to share a room for the only time this year. It disturbs my sleep when the girls moan all night at my snoring!!

Fireworks at Universal sound good.

Next time you go Vero Beach you've got to try a boat ride up the Indian River and also Captain Hirams. I know we are going to try some of the places you went.

Glad you enjoyed it

Like Tam said, Captain Hiram's is a cool place to try. Good food in a lovely setting alongside a small marina. They even have live bands in the evenings.

Lovely day and nice to see the beach. Those RPR rooms are certainly a lot brighter since we last stayed in them. I think the walls were painted plum coloured.

I love checking in to a new hotel it always looks so clean.

Must have been great to see the fireworks
