The rope across Main Street

I've not been to DLR often and haven't paid enough attention to notice a pattern as to when we need to wait at the gates for the park to open and when we can enter onto Main Street and wait for the ropes to drop. Is it on EE days only that we wait at the gate?

Last Monday, we were allowed in early, and I decided to make use of the extra time to do a bit of shopping at some of the stores that I never have time to go into. Imagine my delight when I realized that the shops were connected and I was able to work my way to the front of the crowds. I decided I would save my shopping for later! :cool1:

We're AP holders and go often. It's been our experience that even on EE days, non-EE guests are allowed onto Main Street 30 minutes before official park opening. The rope drop occurs at the hub end of Main Street at park opening. EE guests are allowed past the rope before that time on the left side of the street upon showing EE documentation.

If the regular (non EE/MM) park opening time is after 8 am (9 or 10am) there will be a rope drop. If park opening is 8, then they will open the turnstiles at 8am. If opening is at 8, with an EE/MM of 7, they will open some of the turnstiles at 7 for EE, but the rest of the guests will have to wait until 8 to get in.

I was beginning to think I was crazy. I haven't seen a rope drop since I was kid, and last trip we were there in line super early and no rope drop. The "no rope drop for an 8am opening" explains it all!!! Now I can look forward... or run scared... to rope drop on my next trip!
