The restaurant you will never go back to...

I have only read the first and last page of this thread, but here is my response...
Blue Boyou-- food was fine, ambounce was fine, but just feel did that- done that, no need to do it again. I would send others there and would go if others wanted togo, just dont feel the need to go myself again.

Torrilla Joes- got really really sick---- I hate to say, but I am sure it was from the margaritas (notice the S, yes more than oen) and not the food, but of course, any good drinker always blames the food :goodvibes

Oh no! That is where we are going for DH's birthday on our last day too! I hope that was a one time fluke! :sad2:

If it makes you feel any better, you may want to ask for outdoor seating when you arrive because those people seemed to be receiving much better service than we were (even though we were practically sitting outside ourselves). We saw countless plates of warm food being sent out there, as well as many free bday beignets. Whatever you choose to do, I hope your CO dining experience is much better than ours! :thumbsup2

I thought I'd bump this thread again and see if anyone out there has had any more interesting dining experiences this summer. As for me, from my trip in June, I didn't encounter any place that I wouldn't go back to. I did consider the food at Hungry Bear to be just OK, although I loved the seating area. I give a big endorsement to Pacific Wharf Cafe and the French Market. I think those were my favorite CS experiences of the trip!

Naples Pizza in DTD! Will never go back! The pizza there is worse than some frozen pizza I've had. They are way overpriced for what you get and the service is terrible!!!

So true! Three of us ate there and were all sick a half hour later...was HORRIBLE!

Honestly, we've not done a lot of eating in/around DLR. I don't particularly care for Village Haus but haven't been there for over 10 years. Bengal BBQ was just o.k. in my book and my kid didn't like it at all. I'm also not fond of Riverbelle for breakfast. Not a fan of pancakes, don't eat onions and peppers in my potatoes and my meat and eggs were cold. We've never been there for lunch or dinner though so they're not completely off our radar. I will never eat at that pizza place in DCA again. It was AWFUL and I try to steer the kid clear of the little mexican food place in DCA as well as it's incredibly bland and overpriced. We also won't be back to AG until the menu changes again. There's nothing on there that interests the kid for those prices.

Many of the places we've never tried are because I'm frugal. I'm not about to pay $30 for a large pizza. Anything with menu pricing that doesn't exceed our budget is fair game though. We love CC. Never had bad food or bad service there. I've only been seated outside at CO but the food and service were good. We've only done BB for dessert.

I would not go back to the Blue Bayou until they get a menu with better food on it!!! A few years back the food was better and they changed head chefs which took off quite a few of our favorites like the (andouille sausage stuffed mushrooms),,,,yummy....The place has a nice ambience, but for the prices and the bland food,,,no thanks,,,,,YUCK!!!!!

The worst meal we had was from Rancho del Zocalo. It was disgusting I couldn't make myself eat it total waste of money on that meal. Everything from the chicken they used in the tacos to the beans and rice was just gross.

The sonoma chicken salad from pacific warf wasn't very good either. The bread bowl was good but the salad was dry and not much flavor.

The cinnamon roll from River belle terrace wasn't very good either. It was really dry and didn't have very much goody in the middle. My kids said they liked the ones I make from pioneer womens recipe way better.

My favorite meal was from white water snacks at DGC the nachos are huge and are so good and a great price. They have a really good big piece of chocolate cake brownie dessert too and it was only 3.79.

Unfortunately, we will not be returning to Goofy's Kitchen. We went last week for brunch and were very disappointed. The service was mediocre, we waited almost 20 minutes for our server to come and get our drink order, and then it was another 15 minutes before she came back with the drinks.

The food was bland and while I understand we are paying more because it is a character meal, even taking that into consideration, the food was subpar.

The characters were fine, and we knew not to expect to see as many as we had at Minnie's - we saw 13 at Minnie's and 6 at Goofy's. But even with managed expectations, I think I enjoyed the character interaction at Minnie's better.

It wasn't horrible, in that it ruined our day or we left angry, but GK's just didn't have that "special" factor for us. :confused3

Another vote for Village Haus. Food is so-so,but it is hot-stuffy-crowded.

I agree Blue Bayou is all about the ambiance, we only go now for dessert now.
$150 lunch for a party of 5 adults and 2 kids is just too much.

Hungry Bear is great for watching the river activity while eating but is my least favorite for food variety.

Rancho del Zocalo is ok for portions but agree that the food is just ok.
Love the outdoor seating tho and is a great place to refill the water bottles.

Award Weiners over in DCA is ridiculously over-priced for hot dogs. I was so irritated I can't even remember if the hot dog was any good. Must have been mediocre or I would have remembered it being tasty.

I stayed away from Village Haus over the last few years since everyone has had nothing but bad things to say about it, so can't comment on that.

I love many of the other restaurants at DLR so I won't go on and on, these were just my bad experiences above.

We really liked Award Weiners. My husband had the BBQ hot link, which he said was good, and the boys had the italian sausage dog, which they also liked. I had the portabello philly cheese "steak" which was delicious, and I really appreciated that they offered a veggie option like that. I didn't notice the price as being especially high, but we were prepared for all of the in-park food to be super expensive, so maybe that's why.

We really liked Goofy's, but it was free for us through Costco, and I'm not sure if the meal would have been worth the $200 if we had directly paid for it. The kids really liked it there though, so we will probably go back if we get another Costco package deal.

Our group liked the food at Rainforest Cafe, and the was a problem with the fire alarm while we were there, sort of ruining the ambience, so they nicely comped our dessert. I will go back.

Blue Bayou was pretty cool, especially as a first stop for a group of DL first-timers, but I was a bit disappointed that our cookie boats were missing the sail and awesome presentation that I've seen in pictures around here. I would go back for dessert, but I wouldn't pay the super high prices to eat a meal here.

There wasn't anywhere that was so bad that I just wouldn't go back to, but I ordered a fruit plate at Riverbelle Terrace for 8 bucks that I was completely underwhelmed by, and the breakfast there was only okay. The prices were halfway decent for DL though and there aren't many places open in the morning, so I suppose that we would go back if it was the only option for our pocketbook.

REFRESHMENT CORNER!!!!!! Worst experience ever! The service was awful, so slow it was truly ridiculous. I swear to the heaven above that I stood in line for over an hour just to get some hot dogs. I really dont understand why it took so long for them to serve people, because all they have there are pre-made hot dogs, soft pretzels and drinks (should just be grab and go!!!). There werent even that many people ahead of me in line! They get more people through the line faster at Peter Pan's Ride, GEESH! :rotfl:

The food at Ariel's Grotto was very mediocre and I'm not very picky so you know it's bad.

Favorite places - Storyteller's breakfast buffet (pricey but great food), Taste Pilot's Grill, Pacific Wharf Cafe, Riverbelle Terrace, White Water Snacks (breakfast burrito), Main St Market House (ok, so we only get coffee there, but the refills are free!).

That would be Storytellers Cafe. We used to love going there and it would be a must-do on every trip. Our March 2009 trip would be our last time going there due to our horrid experience there. We felt so bad recommending it so highly to our extended family (7 of us). Here's why:

1. The food was really bad there. The fish I ordered smelled fishy (indicator that it's not fresh), overdone on the outside but all raw on the inside. My DD's ravioli was supposed to be in a red sauce (as the waiter described it to her) but was actually in a clear broth. The other orders were just mediocre.

2. Our waiter pretty much ignored us the entire night. And the restaurant was not busy with many many empty tables. He took our orders, and only came back when I flagged him down to tell him my daughter's ravioli was not in a red sauce as he described and my fish was not cooked and smelled fishy. He was rude and told me that that didn't stop my daughter from eating half of it -- that's right, she was hungry and there was no other alternative since he didn't show up for us to tell him at the beginning of our meal!!! He disappeared with my plate, mumbling about something, and never returned with my meal. I basically didn't eat except for the first few bites.

3. I went to the host at the front of the register, and told him we haven't seen my waiter, he disappeared with my food for 20-25 minutes, can we see a manager and can we get the bill because my family is all finished and we wanted to go because we received no service. He told me the manager will come. Another 30 minutes, no manager, no bill. We all pack up and tell the host that nobody came and we received no bill, so we'll just leave. CA was closing soon, and we were running out of time (our last night at DL/CA). The host said OK because he understood we are having a bad experience.

4. We left the restaurant and hung outside feeling really gross about what went on in the restaurant because we are not the kind of people who would dine and dash. But we received no service, no bill, and I got no dinner as it was whisked away. Through the windowed doors, we saw the manager in his black suit come out to to talk with the host, and they were staring at us outside. My DH and DBIL went back in after 10 minutes of our pondering what to do. They had a long discussion with the manager who was just as rude, informing him of the poor service we received, then they paid the bill, minus my meal. And the kicker, the manager, even though he saw us through the doors, had called security to search for us and detain us -- kids and all.

We weren't looking for a free meal or anything, because we are able to afford this. We weren't looking for any discounts because we paid for our meal except for mine which was taken away nor did we ask for any discounts.

The whole experience left us with a bad taste in our mouth (literally and figuratively). But my DDs and my DNeice were all scared that they were coming to arrest us. Perhaps we were wrong in leaving the restaurant in the first place. It's not like we were rowdy; we were completely respectful restaurant patrons, lots of pleases and thank yous. We wanted the bill so I had to get up and go to the host to get it. We wanted to return to the parks. What was going to be a nice dinner turned into a 2.5-hour ordeal.:scared1:

WOW! That is sooo horrible! I would never go back also. I'm so sorry you all experienced that. I would be crushed to have that happened from anything Disney.

To follow up. We did sit inside and had great service. We were there when it opened for lunch. No problems at all and DH got a free Bday beignet with a candle. :)

Award Wieners was "never again". It was $6 for a reg. sized hotdog! Nothing special at all.

Just giving this thread another bump, since I've seen a few restaurant questions posted recently.

On my last trip, we did visit Blue Bayou and had a great time. Our PS happened to be on the only rainy day of the trip-such great timing! We saw a few people still trying to rush through the experience just to get back out there in the pouring rain. We figured if were paying this much, we might as well slow down and enjoy it. We also tried Taste Pilots Grill and Riverbelle Terrace on the Dec trip and liked both. No restaurants for the "no return" list so far!

It's not in Disneyland, but in Downtown Disney. We took our 6 kids to Rainforest Cafe. We had reservations and they put us near the entrance, so we were basically just in a regular, old restaurant with a fish tank. The music boomed so loud that we had to yell across the table to each other. The kids were bored. The food was excessively expensive, small portions (I usually take home half my meal at other restaurants- but not at rainforest.), and tasted bad. We will never go there again.

Isn't it funny how people can have such opposite experiences in the same place! Rainforest is one of my faves! I am a big eater but couldn't even come close to finishing up the Rasta Pasta which I LOVE! We were seated by the gorillas and had a great time! Sorry your experience wasn't what you had hoped for!
