Day 11
Up bright and early today all excited. Today we are moving to the Wilderness Lodge. I have really enjoyed my time at Port Orleans Riverside but Im really excited to be going deluxe!!! Luggage man arrives at 9am to collect our luggage. He tells us that they do the luggage transfers between 1pm and 3pm. We say goodbye to the nice man and our luggage and wonder if we will ever see it again. Leave room and decide to go to Wilderness Lodge now just on the off chance that our room will be ready. Get the bus to Magic Kingdom and then skip excitedly (I did, Tricia walked behind) to the boat dock.
After a 5 minute wait we were on a boat and on the way to the Wilderness Lodge. I was so excited! We sat at the front of the boat so we would get there sooner. No, seriously we sat at the front for a better view of my wonderful deluxe resort. I was gob smacked as we pulled up at the boat dock and I saw my beautiful home for the next 4 nights. Walked slowly to front desk taking in everything. I have to admit that I had to cross the little bridge in the lobby, I couldnt walk round it. Walked straight up to a CM at the desk (there was no line) and we checked in within 2 minutes. The CM asked if we had already bought our tickets, we figured he asked because we had an AP discount, we said yes but he never asked to see them. Unfortunately our room wasnt ready, we were told to call anytime from 3pm to get our room number. Hunger had taken over excitement so we went to Roaring Forks for breakfast and charged it to our Port Orleans account as we still had money on the account there. I couldnt believe how small Roaring Forks was, I guess at a deluxe the guests eat in the fancy places, food court is good enough for me.
Decided to try the cinema again and went to find the bus stops. Still couldnt believe I was actually going to be staying here. When we arrived at Downtown Disney we walked over to the cinema and decided on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. It had been out at home for weeks and we did have pre booked tickets to see it the day after it came out but on this day when I put my contact lenses in to go to the cinema the right one ripped and half got stuck in my eye so I had to make an emergency visit to the optician so I missed the film! In the end the optician couldnt find it and I found it on the carpet 2 days later. Anyway back to my holiday
We were an hour early for the film so we went to use the internet in Disney Quest and checked out the latest goings on in the big Brother house. Got back to the cinema in time for the film and thoroughly enjoyed it then got the bus back to the Wilderness Lodge. Went to the phone beside front desk and dialled the number we were given. The phone was answered, we said we were looking for room number and they said they would put us through to front desk. I could have shouted and the CM at front desk would have heard me. Getting the number took a while as the computer froze. Eventually allocated room 1001 and we called at Bells Service to get our luggage delivered. It had arrived. Mr Bells Service gave us directions and said he would meet us there. As we were walking to the room I told Tricia that room 1001 was a ground floor room, we had asked for a room on a higher floor. Found room at the end of a mega long corridor, excitedly opened the door and all I felt was disappointment. The room was really dark. Opened the door to the balcony and discovered why. Half of the balcony was covered with a brick wall from the ground to the roof, only had a tiny gap to look out. To sit out on it you would think you were in a small cupboard with the walls closing in on you. Tricia went to front desk, I stayed in the room with the luggage, and asked if we could be moved. Jackie said that was not a problem and moved us to room 4001. Jumped into elevator found room 4001 opened the door and immediately loved my deluxe again. It was so bright and the balcony had a railing. We could see the boat dock. Oh, I would be very happy here.
Tricia went out to balcony to look at the view and I went to the bathroom. I had just sat down on the toilet when a voice boomed, Please remain seated! I was most impressed that my deluxe had a talking toilet. When the voice added, And keep your hands and arms inside I realised it was the CM on a docking boat!!! After my shock I joined Tricia on the balcony and pointed out the beach area to her. Turns out the beach area was in fact the geyser. Oh what fun I would have had if I had tried to sit there. Unpacked enough stuff for 4 days and then read a magazine on the balcony listening to the rumbles of thunder.
Left the room to go to Epcot. Had a look round the pool and beach area and bought Wilderness Lodge mugs. I love this resort!!! When we got to Epcot we went to Innoventions East and West and then went to Ice Cool Station for some Beverly. I found the Thailand drink was way worse than Beverly. I liked the Japan drink. From here we went round to the UK and got some fish and chips and ate them while listening to the British Invasion. Huge storm started just as we finished so we hid in the shop where I got annoyed at people reading the wrappers on our chocolate bars and going YUCK! You havent tried them so please dont comment until you have!!! When the lightning stopped we braved the rain and walked round to Mexico where we did the ride. Shopped in Norway and looked round Germany and Japan. We watched Illuminations from the balcony at Japan and found this to be quite a good spot. After the fireworks we slowly made our way out of the park and joined the line at the bus stop for the Wilderness Lodge. I was still so excited to be staying here. When we got back to our room at 10.05pm we could hear the fireworks banging from the Magic Kingdom and we could see them if we leaned over the balcony and looked to the left. Not the best viewing point but I saw them. Went down to Roaring Forks and got something to eat and then went back to the room. I tried sitting out on the balcony but was being eaten alive so I came back in after about 30 seconds and one bite to the back of my knee.
Went to bed after a 5 minute climb to get on it, bed very comfortable and I was asleep within minutes. Another beautiful day.
Day 12
Up about 8am and was very excited to find we had a newspaper delivered. Had a look at the plan and it said we were going to a water park. Both agreed to forget the water park and spend some time at the Wilderness Lodge beach. Got dressed and gathered the essentials for the beach area, beach towel, book, personal stereo and Pringles. Went down to Roaring Forks for some breakfast, scrambled eggs and bacon washed down with coffee. After eating I filled my mug with sprite and we headed for the beach. Opened door to step outside and discovered it was raining. It was only 9am and this was not in my plans!!! Went up the hill to the lobby and sat on a rocking chair with my towel over my knees as the air conditioning was brutal. Tricia thought I looked like an old woman and went off to take some photos while I read my book and ate Pringles. When Tricia returned she told me it had stopped raining so we went down to the beach area and spent a couple of hours here. It was so relaxing here. When I got to hot I sat in the water and read my book with the ducks swimming next to me. When we returned to our room housekeeping had been. Our housekeeper was Bounkhom and she had made us a towel animal. This caused huge debate. I am adamant that it was a bird, Tricia said it was a squirrel. I have never seen a squirrel with wings and a beak but hey whatever.
When we left the room we got on a bus to Downtown Disney to get a bus to the Swan to go to Fantasia Gardens. Our bus stopped at the Grand Floridian and while we were there we saw 2 police cars and 3 police motor bikes.
We had lunch in Earl of Sandwich which was fabulous. I was asked for ID to use a traveller cheque which I have never had a WDW before. After this food stop we went towards the bus stops stopping at the restrooms. While I was waiting outside a woman started to chase her son who was about 4, she was screaming at him and when she caught him she grabbed him by one arm and was hitting him pretty hard. A woman who was sitting beside them shouted at the woman to leave the child alone. This resulted in child hitting woman to scream obscenities at sitting woman. When we got to the bus stop I overheard (only cause I was listening) a man telling his lady friend that his audition had gone well and he had a call back on Monday. He seemed really excited, it was for a part in a show at Animal Kingdom, think it was Festival of the Lion King. I hope he got it.
When we got to Fantasia Gardens we decided to play the Fairways course as the other one was really busy. Used our AP discount which was nice. The sky was very dark and the CM told us that they dont close for rain but they do for lightning and if there was any lightning we would get a rain check good for life. Tricia won the course, she scored 67 and I got 88. I also managed to do a boomerang shot, the ball flew through the air hit a rock and flew back again and landed right at my foot, it was so cool. After golf we walked to MGM and got the bus back to the Wilderness Lodge. Filled mug with coffee and skipped back to my room happy to be staying here. Went out to balcony to drink coffee and write some trip report notes. I dropped the pen and just caught it before it rolled off the balcony. I also discovered some marks on my foot, might be a scratch but to me it looked like teeth marks. Tricia appeared unconcerned so I put insect repellent on it and took some antihistamine just to be safe.
We were going to our third and final e-night of this trip tonight. I wanted to ride the monorail so we got the boat to the Contemporary which took about 3 minutes. The place was heaving, there was a pin trading gathering taking place. Got on monorail and were soon at Magic Kingdom. Exchanged tickets for vouchers and then walked through the masses of people waiting for the parade and went to Peco Bills for dinner. Watched Spectro from outside Peco Bills while we ate. Then we got a spot at the hub in front of the castle for Wishes. Excellent once again but I think the view is better a little further down Main Street. After the fireworks finished we walked against the exiting crowds to get to Fantasy Land where we rode Peter Pan, Philharmagic and Pooh. The CM at Pooh said you could sit where you pleased and left the masses to organise themselves which was fun. Went onto Buzz next, rode it twice, scores not worth mentioning. Played one game of air hockey over at Space Mountain arcade, this time it was a close game but in the end I won 7-6 and re-activated my sore shoulder. Rode Buzz once more and then went over to Frontierland. Thunder mountain was experiencing technical difficulties and was closed which was disappointing but never mind we have been on it loads this trip. Had a ride on Splash and then went back to other side of park. Did Pooh ride again and then another 2 rides on Buzz and then went to Main Street Ice Cream Parlour for a cola float. We ate/drank this on the way back to Splash, Thunder was still closed, got front seats this time after I asked for it much to Tricias delight. The CM told us to sit where we wanted as it was our world. Lovely CM, not like Audrey! Got soaked and I managed to convince Tricia we should have one last go at 12.58am. The lights were turned on for a few minutes and we saw the track at the down, up, down drop. The one that goes quite fast. We left Magic Kingdom at 1.15am, there was only a handful of people on Main Street. The boat back to the Wilderness Lodge was waiting and we were back showered and in bed by 2am with a wake up call set for 7.45am.
Day 13
Up with the wake up call at 7.45am. My newspaper hadnt been delivered so I had a walk up the corridor to see if anyone else had one, they didnt. Either the paper boy was late or you only get one on a weekday. Got ready and set off for Epcot. I wanted to ride the monorail so we got on the bus to the TTC, which was already at the bus stop, and then onto the monorail.
At Epcot we rode The Land and I found it interesting (I must be growing up) and then Test Track. The standby line was an hours wait so we went in the single riders line. We both got in the same car, me in front, Tricia in the back. Wait time was only 15 minutes. Watched Kristos who were brilliant. One thing that concerns me however is that they dont have any crash mats, if they were to fall they would be landing on concrete. Rode the Norway ride and bypassed the film. Started to head towards International Gateway as we were meeting people at Beaches and Cream. As we were passing through Canada we heard a CM at a cart laughing whilst telling someone I presume was an off duty CM that she had ruined someones vacation. I thought it was very professional to laugh about this in front of the guests, I would have done it behind closed doors.
We arrived at Beaches and Cream at 12.30pm to meet Udnylad (Morven) and his wife Suzanne and their children Kerri and Liam. We had met with them before in 2002 and we had been 90 minutes late as Tricia had been bitten by the spider and had to go to hospital. Anyway we were meeting them at 1pm so we were pleased to have gotten there early. They arrived at 12.50pm and we had a 20 minute wait for a table. I had the banana split sundae and Tricia had a Pineapple sundae which were great. Had a great chat with Morven and Suzanne and when we left them they were on their way to upgrade their tickets to APs. It was lovely to see them again. We headed back to Epcot as Tricia had seen a bag that would be suitable for us for getting the shopping home. She told me it wasnt a nice bright colour but it would do the job. Back into Epcot, found the shop and the bag. I thought it was a joke but no we bought it. Well Tricia paid for it while I hid behind a shelf, didnt want the CM to think I liked it. Its a khaki colour that looked really bad in the shops light. I will from now on be referred to as the minging bag.
Got the monorail to the TTC and then got on a bus to Wilderness Lodge. On the bus Tricia noticed she had some ice cream and a piece of pineapple stuck to her shorts. I laughed so hard, there was only one other person on the bus besides the driver, I sure hope they never got a complex. When we got back to the room we found we Bounkhom had made a beautiful swan towel today. No debate today it was definitely a swan.
Dumped minging bag in the room and went to hire some bikes to explore the resort. When we got to the rental place I suggested a surrey bike and Tricia turned the colour of the minging bag so I took that as a NO. Got bikes and cycled along the nature trail to Fort Wilderness. It was really enjoyable and peaceful, you forget there are theme parks nearby. Stopped at the petting zoo and had a look, I looked from a distance e.g. outside, as I dont do animals. When we returned the bikes at Wilderness Lodge CM Ryan asked if we were Scottish. I was most impressed. He told us his dad is Scottish and had just returned from a visit home. Turns out his dad is from East Kilbride so we chatted with Ryan about all the roundabouts in East Kilbride, this is Tricias favourite place for getting lost. Ryan agreed with us!!! He was a lovely boy. Sat on the beach for a while taking in the atmosphere and then got burgers from Roaring Forks and took them up to the room and ate them on the balcony and did some people watching. I felt like a goldfish, almost every person looked up at the balcony. Saw 4 elderly persons getting off the boat and told Tricia I had seen them going for the boat that morning. I hope they didnt see me because they wouldve thought I had been sitting there all day.
Decided to go to MGM. I was going to buy a 1000 piece jigsaw and a Mickey wearing a cute hooded jacket. I hadnt been going to get them due to lack of space but now we had the minging bag to fill. I entered MGM without a problem and turned round to see Tricia put her fingers in the scanning thing and then lift it (the scanning thing) right up. When she was eventually in we got a fast pass for Tower of Terror. The standby line for Rock n Rollercoaster was 70 minutes and there were no fast passes left. Went to Writers Stop and got a muffin and Tricia got some scrap booking things. It was soon our time for Tower of Terror so we headed over and had a 20 minute wait in the fast pass line. Went into Fantasmic stadium at 8.20pm and got a seat in the second last section at the left. After Fantasmic we stayed sitting until the crowds had left, a voice kept booming over the tannoy telling people to leave. A tour group with a little flag, all dressed in yellow chanted and clapped the whole way to the exit. Went into the shop to get my jigsaw. I had decided not to buy the Mickey as I really dont need him but when I went to get the jigsaw Mickey was sitting next to them and was looking at me with little sad eyes. I gave in and picked him up, Im sure he smiled. CM John put Mickey into the bag with his arms and head sticking out the top so he wouldnt suffocate.
On our way to the bus stop we were stopped in our tracks by another tour group. This one were dressed in white with a yellow and blue stripe. They had formed a circle at the side of the Caribbean Beach bus stop and were singing and clapping and chanting whilst two of their group did handstands in the middle of them. No-one could get past and did they move NO!!! They carried on screaming.
When we got back to the hotel I suggested we play 4 in a row, had bought it for the plane and never took it out the box. Tricia is good at this game so we played for about an hour because I HAD to win some too!!! Off to bed about midnight after setting wake up for 7.45am for our last full day.
No rain today.
