The Rebels are Sizzling in JULY!

Hi Rebels!

I feel so absent on the weekends. Pesky life gets in the way of my Rebel time.

Let's just get this out of the way - I didn't go my 12 miler this weekend. I went to six flags the day before the run and was just beat by the time I got home so I didn't go. And then excuses excuses excuses....I didn't do any running the rest of the weekend. I won't be able to get our 14 miler in next weekend either b/c I have to attend the national sales meeting so my next "long" run will be the Bronx Half. This should be interesting.

James - I'm so glad that the doctor was able to diagnose and start treating you. What a great weight lifted off your chest and shoulders. No doubt you will get to the 26.2 with your determination.

Andrea Congrats on your new puppy! The first three months of my fur baby's time with me was the worst. It's so time consuming and exhausting. I remember crying and thinking I made a mistake by getting her. But after that they are so amazing. She is my favorite "person" in the world. I miss her (I haven't seen her since 8:30am) and I can't wait to get home and snuggle with her. (She's 4 so it goes on forever like that).

Mike - Sometimes I get lost in my apartment. So no worries. We're all directionally challenged sometimes.

Nikki - You are such a trooper. It's so amazing when you have those run/walks where you can say I felt great and could have gone further. It's such a great payoff for the time and effort that goes into the training. Keep it up!!!!

Have a great week Rebels!

Nikki - No, this is a little bitty toy dog, so definitely no running for her. I thought about getting something bigger, like an aussie, for running, but in the end, I decided to go for the smaller one.

I will look into getting her into agility, though, so we'll be able to do that sort of exercise together...

You are kicking such butt with your training! I also wondered about whether my chews were doing anything, and someone told me that if I felt fine through my whole walk, that meant they were working. If you start to feel bad and depleted, that means you need to be taking more. So it looks like you already found your "replenish schedule."

Mike - I do crate train her when I'm out and at night, but I feel too bad to do it during the day when I'm home, or on the weekends. I feel guilty.

Stupid Judy? Did I miss something? Where did that come from?

James - Sorry you have asthma, but glad that you finally have a diagnosis and it is something treatable.

:thumbsup2 for doing those 17 miles! That is a tough one. I had to work through a mental block when I was working on my 10 miles, I can't imagine getting through 17. It does take some real work to get through the mental thing. Hardly anybody ever talks about that, the focus is always the physical.

AFM - My training schedule called for 6 miles for me yesterday, but I did it on the treadmill and got so bored after 4 miles that I had to quit. :sad2: The good news is I felt fine afterward and feel great today. I was worried that I would be sore, but I feel absolutely fine today. Whew!

Mike- That "stupid Judy" remark really made me laugh!!! Your wife must be one awesome lady! I am with her on the hills! Hate them but gotta do 'em!

James- Talk about mental preparation! At the moment there is NO WAY in my mind I could do 17 miles! I have a new respect for ANYONE out there that can do it! As we say at work, if it were not for the bad times the good times wouldn't feel as great!

Jane- How was 6 flags!!! I bet you got a lot of walking in there!! Just keep moving forward and I am sure you'll be fine for the Bronx!

Andrea- Sounds like a little cutie of a puppy you have there! Thanks for the fuel advice! I also get bored on the TM! At work I use the TVs for distraction, sometiems that doesn't work so I end up switching machines and throwing in a little bike or elliptical just to beak it up!

AFM- Thank you to all of the Rebels for the great encouragement!! Still doing good here! Went out for 40 minutes last night, about 2 miles with intermittent running. Did 44 minutes this morning with my buddy Margie! She is finally feeling better! It was nice to catch up with her again! We went just under 3 miles!

Have a great week Rebels! I'm off to a wedding out of town this weekend and am hoping to get my 7 mile run in Saturday AM. I have looked up our hotel and running paths in Traverse City and have found one RIGHT next to us! It should be interesting!!

Hi Rebels!

This morning I got up early and planned on doing 8 miles. Well, I was a little sluggish and I suspect that I am still recovering from my long walk on Sunday. I ended up stopping at 5 miles. I didn’t think it was necessary to push the mileage if I am still recovering. Anyway, I did manage to get in 24.5 miles last week and I am hoping to get in 27 miles this week. However, the actual scheduled mileage this week is 32 and I am not ready for that kind of weekly mileage yet. I am a little behind on my training but I do not think I am that bad off. Regardless, my goal for the marathon is to finish, dead last if need be. ;)

I hope everyone’s training is going well and injury free. Have a great day Rebels!

Good Morning Rebels.

Andrea - 4 miles is still better than no miles. Besides, I'm sure you're getting some mileage in chasing around the pup.

Nikki - So great that you were able to meet up with Margie again. Have a great time at your wedding....celebrate your 7 miler that you will have done in the morning!!!

James - Good move listening to your body and taking it easy. I don't know about the weather where you are, but it's brutal here and I've had to cut some runs short. I think with your dedication you'll finish no problem.

AFM, I got out again last night and did 3.5 miles. Haven't run in almost a week. :scared1: But it felt good. I realized that it's almost time for new sneakers and some new gear (I feel like it's always time for something to buy for running.) Tonight I'm going to try and get in another 3 miles. It's hot today but at least the humidity is much much lower. Also, I figured out a way to meet my group for the 5 mile run on Saturday, but if I run to the meeting site and back again it's an additional 4 miles. So I'll get 9 miles in on Saturday. At least I feel like I'll have continued my training a bit and won't be going into the Bronx with a month long taper.

Hope all is well with everyone! Stay cool!

I think I have pulled or strained my groin muscle :sad1: Tomorrow is my long run of 7 miles and I am not sure if I should attempt it or not. I started noticing the discomfort about a week ago, but ignored it. :sad2: I was feeling it slightly this morning when running, but it was not painful. After getting out of the shower the pain began and depending on how I move it, it can be quite painful. Thinking of attempting the run tomorrow icing, stretching, and then a few days off. I just really feel like I need to finish out my week of running. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!
Stacie

Hi Stacie, if it were me, I would probably take the day off. If anything, shorten the mileage tomorrow or slow the pace. Are you on a training schedule for a race? If so, I can understand you wanting to get your mileage in. Be careful not injure yourself even more, which could side line you for a while. That is what I fear the most as I approach ten weeks left of my marathon training. So, I really guard against over training.

Take care of yourself and I hope it goes away in short order. :grouphug:

Stupid Judy? Did I miss something? Where did that come from?

Ellens World of Energy at Epcot.
James Glad the medicine is helping.

Stacie If you are in pain - stay off it. If it is sore and doesn't get worse while you run, you can run on it and then treat it. No Pain - No Gain doesn't really work here.

AFM registered for the Morse Mini, there is a DISmeet in Indy the same weekend, so we are doing both. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2442599 Ran 4mi in the heat tuesday night, 5 halfs this morning, and planning on 11 saturday. Should be all set for Wine&Dine

Thanks for all the advice on the groin strain! I did manage to get in 3.4 this morning, then decided it was not worth injuring the muscle even further. I am going to take a few days, maybe even a week off then get back in the game after that. When I realized I was beginning to change my gait due to the discomfort that is when I stopped. I believe this is just a mild strain and should heal quickly. Let's hope so anyway! I feel so Lazy when I cannot run!

Stacie

Jane - I know what you mean about running being expensive. The good news is that after the first large outlay, you get a break for a while. Other than new shoes every so often, once you have the supplies, you're all good.

Running to your training run? Now that's dedication! :rotfl:

Nikki - Glad your running partner is doing better and that you have company again.

Have fun at the wedding, and good for you for looking up a running path where you'll be staying. Good attitude! :thumbsup2

James - Good odea not pushing your body too far too fast. And 24.5 miles in a week is very respectable, especially considering what you're coming from these past few weeks. And just like you said - nothing wrong with dead last finish! ;)

Stacie - Everyone gave great advice - definitely take the time to rest and heal it up properly. If you continue to injure it, you will eventually be in even more pain and out of commission for an even longer amount of time. Can you just walk on it? That might make y ou feel less lazy, to get out and do a few miles at a relaxed walking pace.

Mike - I've never done Ellen's World of Energy, so I wasn't familiar with that phrase.

Everyone have an amazing weekend. And stay cool!

Stacie Good decision to quit if it was changing your gait, you would have just ended up with 2 injuries. For a workout with no strain on your legs try getting in the pool. Do a couple lengths of arms only and you will get a good workout in without putting any strain on your leg. Get better soon. :grouphug: looking forward to meeting you and Jane at the W&D party.

Jane Good job getting a run in. I'm sure you will do fine at Bronx, hopefully it will be cooler then.

Nikki Did you get a run in this AM, or did you have too much fun at the bachelorette (sp?) party the night before.

Andrea You were so busy supporting everyone else you forgot to say how your week went. Hope it was good and you got some good training in.

AFM We went for our long run in the park again this AM, and guess what, I got lost again:confused3 DW noticed after <.1 mi and it was still flat, so there was no where near the number of "Stupid Judy's" as last time. It was too hot. We started at 6:15 and it was already 76, it was 86 by the time we finished. I guess we need to get up even earlier and trade sleep for shade.

James- Way to not push too hard at the beginning of last week and listening to your body! I am with you on finishing a race! Everyone keeps asking me "when do you think you'll finish" I let them know time is not important to me, what matters most is crossing that finish line!

Jane- I LOVE getting new running gear! I just don't like the price tag! Good Job for working you schedule to fit in group runs!

Stacie- Good job on listening to your body! Recovering from it now will be a lot faster than working the muscle to death and then trying to recover.

Amanda- Stay cool.....kinda hard in MI, as well as half of the country right now! I hope this heat breaks soon!

Mike- Way to be with route planning and keeping the wife happy! I hear you on getting out there earlier! I've been taking some naps after my weekend walks just because I've been getting out there so early!

AFM- I had another great week! Only missed one day last week and that was due to weather, we had tornado warnings scattered throughout the day! I was in my basement a few times! Nothing materialized though so thank goodness!!

My long run this weekend on vacation was AMAZING! I was farther up north and the weather was wonderful! Not too hot or humid! I used a trail that was very nice and very well marked! I turned my 7 miles into 8 because of a needed restroom stop that wouldn't occur until 4 miles out! I felt great and had some WONDERFUL times! Had my fastest mile again, 13.45! I added more running on the second part of my journey and was running for 1 minute about every 7 to 10 minutes! I think I need to do more of my long runs out of town!!

hope everyone has a good week! Sick with it!

Hi Rebels!!! Hope everyone is doing well!

Boy, Nikki’s countdown to her first half marathon is scarring me a little. It is a reminder that the Goofy’s Race and a half is just around the corner. I still have some hard training ahead of me.

Well, I did 4.35 miles on Friday morning and 18 miles on Sunday morning with a total mileage for the week of 27. Wow, another big day this weekend. I actually had my head wrapped around the mileage this time. Each one of these walks over 15 miles has a story to tell. This one was rough on me physically. The last couple of miles were near maximum effort to maintain pace. I thought for sure that I was going to be wreaked afterwards, but my recover is saying otherwise. I am thinking my fitness level is coming around. I am still a tad slower than I want to be but there is little I can do about it at the moment. I am just not able to balance speed work with the mileage yet.

Jane asked if been hot over here. It has been rough lately with heat indexes up to 110 degrees. This might be a little hard core, but I have been starting my training about 3:30 in the morning. I am not sleeping very well anyway (I think it is the med I am taking), so getting out of bed that early has been relatively easy. However, the starting temps have been around 75 and really humid. I don’t really get hot until the sun comes up on the big walk on Sunday. Lately, most of my walking is in the dark but my route is mostly lit with street lights. I walk with a reflective vest and a LED light.

My next training run is on Wednesday morning with a 6 mile walk. This week is a cut back week. I think my weary body needs it.

I wish you a good training week Rebels! Have a great rest of the day.

Hi Rebels!:)

Stacie - Hope you are nursing your injury and that you recover quickly. I hate being sidelined, but I always remember that it's better for me in the long run.

Andrea - How's the puppy? And the training??? Come on cheerleader, let us cheer for you for a bit. :)

Mike - You got lost again? :rotfl: You crack me up. But you keep sneaking in the extra mileage. Just don't get lost when you run your races. I never got "lost" but I did show up late for a 5K once and ran in the reverse direction. So about a half mile in all the runners started running at me. It was hilarious!!!!!

Nikki - Congrats on getting in your walk in this weekend. You are really on a roll. 13:45 is a time i aspire too and I do run walk ratios. Keep up the great time and training.

James - 3am? That's an unbelievable amount of dedication. Great job on last weeks mileage. I know what you mean that every new outing has a different story. They are never the same. Yesterday I thought I had pushed too hard early on and it slowed me down tremendously on the back half of my run, but it turned out I actually had the best pace time ever. And I felt great. so you never know. Keep up the great work.

AFM - This weekends run was brutal. I did 7.5 (2.5 miles running to the start of the group run plus the 5 miles with the group). The humidity was outrageous, so I took a cab home. But I'm glad I got in the extra mileage up front. Last night was so gorgeous here, low humidity but in the mid 80's. Couldn't pass up the good weather. Had my best time ever on 3.5 miles. Thought I started too fast and that I would just finish with an average pace time, but turns out it was a great run. I'm really glad I got out there and did it. I have to attend my sales meeting this weekend (complete with mucho alcohol and fatty foods) so I'm concerned about getting in a long-ish run this weekend. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed as it looks like we're going to have less humidity and lower temps over the weekend.

Have a great week Rebels!!!!

DW got signed up for a 4 mile race at work, her boss walked in and said "you run don't you". So we are in a race Saturday and I don't have to worry about getting lost.

Hi Rebels. Sounds like everyone is doing great.
Big news---daughter and I signed up last night for January. I will be doing the Half and she will be doing the Goofy. We are so excited. Now, we need to really get working on our training schedules. Wish us luck and hope to get to meet some of you in January.

I have not been able to run in a week. I am going to see a sports medicine Dr. tomorrow morning to see what the deal is with this strained/pulled muscle I have been dealing with. I am praying I get good news and can start running tomorrow! I just realized there are only 8 more weeks to train for W&D and my farthest run has only been 6 miles. Good thing I am doing the relay and only need to do 8 and not 13.1.

I hope everyone else is doing well with their training and beating this heat. We were up in MI this past week to visit family and it was so nice there (85 no humidity) Arrived back in AL today to 102 temps.

Stacie
