I spoke to I few people I know who I encouraged to find out about DVC at Disneyland. They had been to several timeshare presentations so when they got this one guide they knew she was a professional time share closer.

When my friends said they did not want to buy she begain to tell them how she needed so many points sold or she would get in trouble. She told them that she was so upset that her husband was in vegas and that she had to support herself. She even said the purchase would have to be made today! (And there from California) They were shocked!

They asked her if she was new and she said yes but she had sold timeshare for a long time somewhere else.

It looks like Disney make be moving toward the New Breed of Disney time share people. They need to get thier numbers.

lots of new employee start out this way - complaint to disney about her attitude - believe she will change or she will be asked to leave.

Not the first time we've heard a story like this (and, from the sound of it, we might have a repeat-offending guide). Wonder how long it'll be before she starts holding your children hostage like the other pro timeshare closers?

Any chance we could get a name? I gotta meet this gal.

Definetly complain, please. If I even thought that was what we were going to experience when we went for our tour I would have not gone. I made a point of mentioning to the scheduling CM that I did not want to experience any high pressure sales pitch. I was assured that this was Disney and that wasn't going to happen. Sure enough it was a very pleasent experience.

The problem is this. I assume that all of the guides with 'different views' on selling DVC are probably doing very well numbers wise for the company. There is no way they are going to hold someone accountacble if they are bring in sales, no matter what anyone tells you at DVC at the end of the day its all about the numbers I'm certain.

This is a dead issue and I just wanted to let everyone know about it.

no - believe me DVC has FIRED DVC sales guide for being too aggressive....

DVC does not want that reputation.

DVC either sells itself or it doesn't.

DVC has never tried to force you to buy - the other timeshares definitely are into the force business....

It is not a dead issue.

You might be surprised. If DVD's upper management finds out about this guide employing questionable pressure tactics they'll cut her loose in an instant. Maintaining their immaculate reputation in the industry is worth exponentially more than a few coerced sales (especially now that they're touting the whole "We're Number One" angle).

Ooh, wonder if she's a former Westgate trained sales person? :teeth:
Those are some of the scariest out there.

My parents own with Westgate and said their sales staff can be real weasels. They avoid them at all cost.

I've talked with many of the Disneyland sales guides and none of them have seemed pushy at all. I imagine some might be, but can't imagine anything as outlandish as the topic starter states. While never a big believer in post count, this might be a time to take that into consideration.

My guide at Disneyland almost insisted that I go home and think about it, it was the exact opposite of pressure.

I've had two guides and both were low pressure, actually none at all. Both acted like they could care less if I bought. They simply showed the property and the program and that was it. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't get the impresion that DVC guides are even on commision or had quotas? Does anyone have inside info. on this? Sorry to be a doubting Thomas, but I find the OP assertion hard to believe.

I visited the DVC Sales office at SSR when we were there last week to see a Grand Villa and they were very accomodating. They did not pressure me or even asked if I wanted to buy - only asked where I owned.

The one thing that did bother me was one of the greeters outside of the DVC sales office. I started asking some questions about SSR and some of its growing pains. She asked where I owned and I told her at the Boardwalk. She said she didn't like it there at all as it was too busy and crowded and SSR was so much more relaxing, etc. I've never liked sales tactics where they knock the product you currently own - very unprofessional.

Since I wasn't there to hear the tone of the greeters voice, I can't say for sure one way or the other. But from what you posted, it is possible that the greeter was simply expressing her personal opinion. BWV isn't my style of resort for exactly the reason she mentioned to you. I like the relaxed feel of OKW, I can't relax and rest at BWV, it is just "too busy." I'm not knocking BWV, a LOT of people like the atmosphere and love staying there, but people look for vacations to fit their personal taste, and it may be that the CM just simply found the atmosphere at BWV not to be relaxing to her.

if this happens again to you - mention her behavior to your guide or just the person sitting behind the guest - she will probably go get her boss. Someone will tell her not to mention her personel feelings. Disney definitely tried not to often anyone.

Now here - I can agree with her. I own at BWV - but it is too much like a city place for me - now some people say that it is a fun place. but everyone has their favorite, as a greeter she should not have say that.

so sorry she offened you.

She may have been expressing her opinion but by her tone and attitude, it was more to sell SSR. My DH is in sales and I have worked for sales execs in the past and you never express that you don't like the customer's choice. IMO, she should have stated that BWV was also a lovely resort and that SSR was nice for those that prefer a quieter atmosphere and the extra 12 years. It put me in the position of defending my home resort and I was on vacation.... I just let it be and continued on my walk. Not a big deal... I was just surprised by her attitude.

Although the people in the sales office were very accomodating and friendly, the DVC rep that showed me the grand villa seemed a little put out. She stated she was an intern until July. I was surprised it only had one balcony and slept 12 - she said she was, too. She certainly wasn't enthusiastic like other DVC reps I've talked with - barely made small talk and just handed me a point chart at the end. This isn't high pressure but it certainly didn't encourage me to buy - she seemed like she didn't care either way.

I will say the sales office is beautiful - loved the painting on the ceiling and talked to a very nice DVC rep there who loved Disney and is definitely an asset to DVC. He loved all of the resorts and was knowledgable about each.

file a complaint... disney is very sensitive about this issue and protects their reputation.

I went into the Open House at the Boardwalk just so I could see the 1BR unit... when we went in they were definately trying to push people to take the SSR tour. When I told them I was a member, they simply shifted to the other 2 that were with me and tried to get them to sign up. The big thing they were saying then was.... "you need to go tomorrow because the price is going up, so going tomorrow will lock you in."

I have a feeling if folks get the "pressure" to attend the tours, they might get the impression that the guides are going be pressuring them to buy too.

I'd definately recommend reporting the guide using the pressure/guilt tactics. I hated hearing folks this past week referring to DVC as a typical timeshare, or saying that they didn't want to check it out because they didn't want to go thru the experience of those sales presentations ever again. Luckily, I was able to talk to them and let them know that DVC wasn't that way.... now there are 2 more familys planning to check it out.

Well, my friend actually called her so called guide back and said he was unhappy with her tactics. She said "I don't know what your talking about, I would never do that" I guess it's what we expected. The old I don't remember that,,,,,,,,,

Not even the first time we heard a story like this from this poster.

I'm sorry both you and your friend had such bad experiences with DVC. From what I've heard this is not the typical DVC approach.
