The real deal on Cribs

I have been hearing conflicting reports as to the availability of real cribs vs. pack and plays. Can anyone share what they know as far as what resorts have real cribs. We were first told they had them, and then the last MS person I spoke to said it was pack and play only.

There are pack and plays in the closet in all of the DVC rooms.
We stayed in a 1 bedroom at Kidani Village in June. When I made the reservation I asked for a full size crib and they noted the request on my reservation.
When we checked in at Kidani I asked about the crib and they said it had been noted on my reservation and that all we needed to do was to call housekeeping once we were situated in our room.
When we got to the room, we called housekeeping and they brought the crib right up for us.
We brought our own sheets etc, as we had been told that they did not provide the bedding.
The crib was a full size crib, it fit nicely in the bedroom, with plenty of room for everyone.

Based on personal experience, I have been able to receive real cribs at the following resorts:

AKL Jambo has cribs, but they are a little smaller- I believe they're called portable cribs or travel cribs. Same size as the pack n plays-- used the same sheets-- but higher off the ground with metal bars. Stayed there Oct 08.

BLT also has real cribs- full size. Also metal bars. Stayed there Nov 09. We sent the cribs back because we couldn't find a good place to hold two cribs side by side.

Thanks. I just called MS again, and now they said I could get a regular crib, but it is through a rental company called all about kids. Has anyone ever heard of this? I am very confused...

From what I understand, getting a crib is a request and they are limited. You can ask at check in (or have it noted on your reservation) but there is no guarantee that one will be available.

If you know for sure that the pack and play won't work and want to guarantee that you will have the crib, then contacting one of the rental companies is your best bet.

Good luck!!!

i used a babys best friend it was about 100$ for 8 days it was fairly easy to set up and came with bedding (i used my own though seemed kind of ewwie to me to use what they sent). they bring it to the luggage room by 6 pm on they day you check in and you call luggage services to have it brought up took about 10 minutes to set up.

We are going in May and will be traveling with my 1 yr. grandson and would like a full size crib. We also will need it for 8 days. I contacted orlandocribrental.com (recommended by someone on the Dis) and they are comparable to abbf in price (they may even be less expensive) and they will deliver your crib to the room and set it up and on check-out day they will come and pick it up from your room. I haven't made my reservation yet but plan to about 2 wks. before we go. The extra day is $10. They do request full payment at time of reservation.

What I was told is that the cribs are available at non DVC resorts. If you are staying at a co-located resort like VWL, BWV, BCV, or BLT, the regular hotel might let you use one if it is available.

Real cribs are hit and miss. If you must have one, I'd arrange a rental. IF you can talk to the front desk at a given resort, you might be able to get an idea of your chances. Unfortunately getting through directly to the front desks from outside WDW is not that easy. Your best be is likely to ask one of your DIS friends in attendance now or soon to go by and ask about it.

I've stayed at okw and ssr and was given a portable crib, the size of a pack and play but as high as a real crib. They don't advertise that they have these but if you call mousekeeping upon checking in, they'll locate one for you if it's available.

Ditto for us at AKV Kidani and BWV. Never had a problem getting them, and they are much better than a pack and play (higher and much more stable mattress).

We have stayed twice now at WLV and received a real full size crib.

Also, stayed at Poly, but the crib was too small for my 16 month old. She barely fit in it and ended up sleeping in the king bed with us.

We received one of the metal cribs for a stay at BCV a few years ago. Much better than the PnP.
