The Race Card?

Much ado abut nothing........it reads more like wishful thinking from the media (you know, if it bleeds it leads). A self-fulfilling prophecy

In fact, I will be interested to see if the media deigns to recognize our growing homeless population now that President Bush will no longer be in office.......they tend to miss such things when a Democrat is in office. Of course, they can just continually blame him.......it worked so far......

Each of these acts (while reprehensible nd just plain ignorant) do not seem to be tied together or orchestrated by an organized group bent on nationwide mayhem.

Contrast this with a bigger story to me such as the nationally coordinated attacks on Christian Churches & individuals because of their stance on Proposition 8 (or the equivalent in other states). Talk about disturbing.

Another thing, can someone point me to a body count for the "vicious backlash" against Muslims post 9/11? Or did I miss that catastrophe?

But, hey......let a coupla yahoos in Mudville talk racist and get stupid......well stop the press! We are all bad guys again.

I thought we were cool.

The article posted here includes anecdotal evidence of racist incidents, as in "a teacher said she heard…" and "she said a boy on the school bus told her…," and allegations of "hundreds" of nebulous incidents reported by race-based groups who exist solely to air grievances about "racist America." It is a thinly veiled (and thinly sourced) collection of incidents, for which there is little proof other than hearsay and rumor, designed to counter the HUGE leap in racial progress Barack Obama's election represents. A lot of people make a lot of money and get a lot of attention by trading in the idea of widespread, systemic racism in America. Barack Obama's election undermines them in far-reaching and even devastating ways. His election revealed the fraud of race hustlers like Jesse Jackson — that this is a fundamentally racist country. Now, we have a black president, so the media is more than willing to publish stories that wouldn't make it past a high school journalism teacher to try to keep those folks in business.

Barack Obama's election has, in fact, significantly altered racial perceptions in this country. No longer can the likes of Jackson cry and bemoan "institutional" racism, because our largest institution — the United States government — has as its president a black man. Moreover, he is the least experienced, least qualified candidate we've elected in decades, but Americans did so largely to earn, once and for all, redemption for America's racist past. The key term there, though, is "past." Obama's election illustrates that it is indeed America's past — not her present — and that signals an end to the gravy train that has been racial grievance mongering for the past 30 years. Many voters who pulled the lever for the deeply inexperienced Obama did so as a bargain with him — that they will no longer be shamed by a past that the vast majority of them played no role in whatsoever. They will not take kindly to being told that racial progress in America is status quo, despite Obama's election. The know differently.

A new day is dawning, indeed, and like all sudden and unexpected social movements, it will have some unintended consequences. Not the least of these is that America's days of self-flagellation and guilt are behind her, and that's going to put a lot of people out of business. They won't go quietly, but they will have to go. They are no longer relevant.

None of these reports surprise me at all. The day after the election a boy in my son's 3rd grade class announced that someone should "shoot Obama in the head." Wonder where he picked up that thought?

Halo?

All joking aside, does it matter if it racist or not? It is wrong, period. Simply bringing race into is exactly what these people want. If we stopped focusing on the race part of an act or a person (both sides), we would be a lot better off because these people wouldn't get the time of day.

Is that a long way of saying racism does not exist in white America?

I voted for Obama because I believe he is the best man for the job. Race had no bearing on my decision. I am a white, middle aged female living in a very conservative area of the south. Trust me. Racism is NOT dead. I didn't put up a sign in my yard or in any other way indicate my political leanings because of where I live. I don't discuss it with co-workers or many of my family and friends because it would create problems for me.

Bring up racism and wow, here comes the crowd!

Is that a long way of saying racism does not exist in white America?

And that my friends is the problem.

Racism exists but it's not exclusive to white people. To think otherwise is to bury your head in the sand.

Some of the implications on this thread are disgusting.

Probably his parents - or grandparents.. I can't believe some of the comments I've heard - and most from college-educated professionals that most would assume actually have a "brain" somewhere inside their heads..:sad2:

FBI: Racist threats over computer sent by black man posing as white

http://www.wwltv.com/topstories/stories/wwl111408tpthreats.1b0d3e688.html

A black man from Mississippi has been arrested and accused of sending racist death threats over the Internet to three black students at Louisiana's Nicholls State University.

The FBI in New Orleans said Dyron Hart, 19, was arrested Wednesday. He is accused of sending the messages by way of the students' Facebook accounts. The messages contained racial epithets and death threats and were sent to two black women and a black man at Nicholls State in Thibodaux, La.

The author of those messages cast himself as a white man who intended to kill blacks because Barack Obama was elected president.

Hart told an FBI agent that he sent the messages to "get a reaction," according to the agent's sworn statement.

The criminal complaint was filed in U.S. District Court in New Orleans. U.S. Attorney Jim Letten's office said Hart made his initial court appearance in Biloxi. It was unclear when he would be brought to New Orleans.

Although the case sprang from a probe into messages sent to the three Nicholls State students, the FBI agent's statement said Hart also admitted sending the message to students at other institutions, including LSU, the University of Mississippi and the University of Alabama.

Race hustlers???

I seem to remember a post just the other day accusing people of voting for Barack Obama to cure their "white guilt"...or something to that effect.

Racism is alive and well in this country. Alive and well. If a person can't see that...then they must live a very sheltered life.

That's not to say that racism does not exist from all races and to all races...of course it does.

But, to deny that it exists...or that Barack Obama's election into office somehow cures the country of a long-lasting legacy of racism is ridiculous.

National events (With racial overtones) seem to bring out the loonies of all colors. I remember when the Rodney King video was shown on national television, black crime skyrocketed. Remember white trucker Reginald Denny being beaten nearly to death simply for driving through the wrong neighborhood?

ITA.

Racism does still exist, and probably will always exist. It has changed, and America should be proud. Things have changed from 40-50 years ago, and we need to acknowledge it.

I respect Rev. Jackson and to the PP who called him a hustler, it's just plain wrong. Maybe you need to see the path Jackson has walked in his lifetime. He lived through segregation, and he was instrument of change towards equality. Look at his life and all that he has gone through. I can't imagine what it felt like to be treated the way he was in the past, to live in such fear because of the color of his skin.

The OP's article points out that there are still outbursts of racism occuring, and we shouldn't sweep it under the carpet. Keep it in the forefront, and keep a dialog open.

Sexism exists, it needs to be discussed and in the forefront to.

Our country has come along way in terms of equality, let's keep the momentum rolling forward.

Well said Oreo! Our country has made great progress. There is still racism in America, but only because those who hate are insecure with who they are. But we need to look forward and not behind. The incidents in the OP's article reflect actions made by sad individuals who are insecure with their own lack of accomplishments, thus taking their anger out on others. Immature, yes. But these people do not speak for the mass majority of Americans.

Huh, I've seen coverage of the Prop 8 protests on CNN and in the NYTimes at least every other day since the election.

But I've missed the part where gay protesters burnt crosses on people's lawns and advocated assassinating the leaders of the anti-gay rights movement.
