I'm enjoying reading your live report. Can't wait to hear more.
Lorianne,Hi Jess I'm Lorianne and I lurked on your last Dxddp report! Your report is what convinced me to go Dxddp instead of just regular ddp!![]()
I too was Vegan for a long time (16 years) and had a lot of the problems you just described but they couldn't put a finger on the reason why. I'm also diabetic which was a whole other issue with being Vegan and my iron levels were in the toilet and my CFS was a constant misery. So, in 2006 I went back to eating just vegetarian and that helped some but not a lot. I slowly added in some meat protein and I almost immediately felt better. I still have to be careful not to eat a lot of ground meat because it causes me stomach issues but I eat some red meat now, a little pork, and a lot of poultry.
I am actually HYPOthyroid also. My autocorrect on my phone decided to change my diagnoses!Oh I am sorry to hear that about your diagnosis. I have HYPOthyroid and I honestly believe it had a lot to do with soy as well. I was not vegan, but I took Soy Lecithin for a long time (to prevent clogged ducts/mastitis when breastfeeding) and shortly after that was diagnosed. I try to avoid soy now but still have it sometimes.
Anyway, I hope your health improves just from the food changes, that would be an easy fix! Unfortunately, mine haven't and I have tons of other hormone issues now... so you are very smart to change your ways as soon as you discovered the problem!
Looking forward to more reviews! Brave to take on the Kitchen Sink!!!
I don't think it happens to everyone because I have friends that have been vegan for 10+ years and no problems. I guess everyones different but I would try to go for rice milk and other soy free products so when you do have soy/tofu/tempeh etc it's not an overload. I still think on vacation soy overload is okayThe vegan talk is very helpful as I have been furiously reading up on the vegan threads here on disboards. I am about two months in at an attempt to be vegan and will be going to WDW in August, so the information has been very helpful. I am concerned about the soy issue as I have upped my soy intake and I have had thyroid issues for about 10 years now. Any additional info would be helpful!
Thanks for reading! I'm glad I have an audience!great reviews so far
Thanks! I'll be posting the rest tomorrow.I'm enjoying reading your live report. Can't wait to hear more.
Thanks!I'm a vegan as well now too, (pescetarian on my last trip,) but I also have a thyroid condition that is better if I avoid a lot of soy, (though I still eat tempeh and tofu at least once a week, but just cutting soy milk out of my diet has been helpful,) but I am enjoying your reviews, even if you did eat meat.![]()
The waffles look awfully brown. Do you know if they were over cooked or was the batter changed to something browner?
Lorianne,
I'm so glad you posted because a couple of friends of mine who are vegan are acting like I am the devil for eating meat again. I had such severe symptoms that I could barely function. At first the dr thought it was diabetes which I guess he wanted me to incorporate the meat into my diet and focus on cutting carbs. Since its hypoglycemia I was given the okay for a vegetarian or even vegan diet but to avoid soy as much as possible. I'm probably going to start back on that tomorrow so my August DxDP review will be interesting!

So sorry to hear about your health issues.. I do hope your feeling better. I enjoy your reviews. I was trying to talk my family into becoming vegan, I was readiing Alicia Silverstones The Kind Diet and I was pretty excited to try it but my family was violently (lol) opposed.. Its just too hard to make two seperate meals with my schedule...

I am on armour for the thyroid, and hopefully that and the food changes alone will help. Glad to hear your story!

I use VegWeb too! Same screen name as here, I love it for the Cookbook Lab forum they have.I know what you mean about making two separate meals! DH doesn't cook at all, with the exception of a frozen pizza now and then! I cook two meals every night except for when were on vacation! That's probably why I love disney and DxDP so much!!!! And I am definately still all for being vegan, it was great for the first couple of years...I'm sure this doesn't happen to everyone. Who knows if it would have happend if I wasn't vegan anyway. I am a member of the kind life site. It's fairly new but there are a couple good recipes. My favorite site for recipes is VegWeb.com! I even have some of my own recipes on there!
