Day one.
As most UK DISers will already have experienced, we were up very early the next day (3.30 in my case!! although Kate slept till 6 ie 11 UK time!! I suppose that comes with the territory of being a university student with only 6 hours of lectures a week dont get me started about the £3200 fees we have paid this year!!).
I got to the food court not long after opening 6am and filled our mugs. I bought Kate a breakfast bar and bought some cereal and milk for me which we ate back in our room.
We were at the bus stop just after 7 to get to DHS for early morning entry at 8. There was a bus waiting for EPCOT people at POP but had no customers (not surprising that it was 7am and it didnt open till 9!) so he said he would take the very few sad people who were up early and waiting to go to DHS!
Kate and I standing in the queue at POP.
Just to prove we were on the bus really early!!
The place was deserted when we got there and we were first in the queue.
Slowly the crowds built up and there was a good atmosphere.
We were let in to go up to the rope about 7.45 and found ourselves waiting just behind the rope. Behind us was an American woman who recognised the lime green mickey heads on our t shirts as being part of the DIS community to which she also belonged and we had a chat.
Kate, who has the longest legs, had already been primed by me following my trip with DH last year to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. Those with the longest legs walk quickly behind the Toy Story CMs doing the Toy Story Trot heading to the fast pass machine without passing go or collecting £200. Those with short, fat legs (ie me!) walk as fast as they can, knowing they cant possibly keep up with those with long legs, to meet them as soon as they get the precious fast pass tickets and join then the queue for the first ride.
Kate had not ridden this ride before but am glad to say it lived up to the hype and she loved it despite me thrashing her! I realised that I had forgotten to re look at the cheats that I had looked up some months earlier but maybe that prevented a complete and embarrassing defeat!
We then went to Muppet 3D, the Movie Ride and Tower of Terror (which we love!).
Unfortunately Rock N Roller coaster was down so we couldnt ride but we still did Toy Story twice more with fast passes before lunch time. By late morning, the early morning wakening had begun to catch up with me and, after sharing a pulled pork sandwich for lunch, we decided to head back to POP for a snooze out of the mid day sun and high humidity. Some hours later and somewhat cooler thanks to wonderful air conditioning; we headed out to EPCOT for the evening.
We rode Spaceship Earth (the first time for Kate with the new ending) followed by a wander through Future World to Mexico where we rode the boat ride there. I ate salmon at the Sunshine Seasons food court but Kate wasnt hungry.
We then rode Soarin (in the front row) one of our most favourite rides which never fails to impress and which almost every time the audience bursts in to spontaneous applause at the end (where else would you get that??). This was followed by a rather tame Journey in to Imagination.
A little window shopping at Mouse Gear was followed by a wander to the bridge between UK and France to stake out a spot for Illuminations my favourite show in WDW. The crowds were really light and we didnt really need to stake our claim for too long.
I got a beer from the pub in the UK served by a typical English bar maid ie she didnt look at me or interact throughout the sale felt just like home!! Kate got some chicken nuggets from the counter service in America.
We were surrounded by Brits watching Illuminations and enjoyed chatting with people who were enjoying Disney as much as we do.
We were very impressed with the bus service back to POP at the end of the evening. There were loads of us and the busses kept coming. Before long we were back at POP, just stopped long enough to take this piccie before becoming comatose in our beds!
