The Prices of Handbags

I have been looking for a handbag for weeks now.

I bought a Michael Kors handbag on sale at Macys and ended up returning it because I just could not justify the money. When I brought it back the price had been reduced and with a coupon It was now a $100 cheaper :scared1:

So I had the price adjusted and took it back home again.

A week later I returned it :sad2:

Even at that price I could not justify the bag.

I do love a great looking genuine leather bag.

Any suggestions on a great handbag that is not the size of luggage, at a great price. I would love to hear what handbags you love and are carrying.

TJ Maxx
Marshalls
DSW
etc

I absolutely LOVE a good handbag and have had no problem (in the past) of spending $300-$500 on a good bag. They last for YEARS and still look just as perfect as they did when you first bought them. I have a Coach (when Coach was "Coach" and not the crap they put out today) that I got 14 years ago. That bag looks just like it did when I first got it (save a few tiny scratches on the bottom). The leather looks amazing, the hardware is still shiny and clean.

These days, I still use the bags I've had for years but if I'm looking for a new bag, I won't spend a ton. I just can't do it in these economic times!

I'm just not a fan of the current Coach line, though I had a great leather Coach bag many years ago. I won't pay premium dollars just for a name (Michael Kors, Kate Spade, etc) either, even if I like the bag.

So I want well made quality, good looking and a reasonable price and I've been very happy with my last 3 Fossil purchases. We have a Fossil outlet not to far away as well.

My purse is vinyl, but it is cute! I thought I was the only one that thought Coach purses were ugly! It is hard to justify spending a lot of money on purses.

I probably have 15 coach bags. I'm over them. They've just become way too mass produced for such a pricey bag.

I've been spending less ans shopping the Vera Bradley sales.

Banana Republic has really nice, quality bags. Some are more expensive than others, but once I outgrew Coach, BR became my go-to place for purses. I have three leather ones that I've rotated for the past few years, and all still look new.

Buying one pricier bag of high quality is better than having to buy many cheaper bags that don't last. I've had really good luck with getting good prices on Michael Kors and Tignanello at Marshall's or TJMaxx.

I agree. I think most Coach purses look cheap.

If you have a Kate Spade outlet nearby, they occasionally have some fantastic sales and great buys can be found on their online site as well in the sale section.

I lucked up on my Coach before last and got a limited top-end that was very well made. Tried to find something nice and classic on this last bag and I've been dissappointed with it.

Somewhere on the DIS boards, I got steered to Leather Artisan. I haven't ordered from them yet, but they're a shop in upstate NY that has an online site; all their purses are handmade and designed right there and the prices are good. http://www.leatherartisan.com/index.html.

I'm planning on using gifts of Christmas money to buy a new purse from this place.

I love Cole Hahn bags for leather goods. EXCELLENT quality. For more "fun" bags and excellent quality, I love Kate Spade. I finally decide to buy a Louie Vutton (ouch) for Christmas.

I just purchased an ebags crossbody bag for $22 online. I have been wanting a nice crossbody and I think this will be perfect for vacation.

Other than that, I am a Coach girl. I am using a blue patent leather handbag right now. During what we call "Monsoon Season" it rains alot, and I don't need to worry about the water damaging the purse.

The mass-prouduced look is fading in popularity around here in our metro area (several million population).

It became almost comical, everyone with the same purse ;)

There was an op-ed piece in one of our newspapers saying purses were taking adult women back to the 8th grade! :rotfl2:

Thanks for the link!

I like Nine West bags. They are cheap and pretty durable. I carry the same bag every single day, and one of these lasts me about two years. I get them at Burlington Coat Factory and never spend more than $40.

I don't get the ridiculously overpriced handbag fixation at all.

LOL. I don't get it either Pigeon, I stopped trying to figure me out.
What's so weird about it is, I'll easily dump 1000 dollars on a new bag but God forbid you ask me to pay more than 20 bucks for a pair of jeans. :confused3 Go figure. I'll spend a few bucks on a good pair of shoes but sneakers? No way will I ever spend 100 bucks on sneakers, I don't care if I'm hiking Mt. kilamanjaro, can't do it.
I love to stay at luxury hotels but can't understand spending 35K on luxury cars.

I've never been a bag girl and really don't carry a purse that often. I have a friend who worked for B Makowsky and she sent me a bag I use for going out (which in our little town is like once a year), I have a 31 bag for taking stuff back and forth to work, I discovered Anuschka and have that for my purse for travel (and my in the back pocket wallet) and I have a Dooney and Burke Disney bag for park visits. That's it. I never thought I'd spend as much on a bag as I did on the Anuschka but I really love those bags

Its like anything else people spend money on. I don't get pimping out cars or going out to dinner all the time.

I do like my handbags. I agree with you guys about the Kate Spade outlet.
If any of you like Dooney, keep an eye out for the 12 days of Dooney. Its usually the beginning of December. There are specials everyday. They usually post them the night before and the really good deals can go fast. Last year I got a $278 bag for $99.
I find Dooney and Tignanello to have some similar styles.

Last year a few days after Christmas I was in line somewhere and noticed the woman in front of me had on her new Uggs, VS Pink sweatpants, North Face jacket, and Coach purse. I'm sure she had everything that was under her Christmas tree on, and I'm sure she thought she looked a-mazing. :rolleyes2
