The Post Office have lost our DVD player! Tale of woe...

We bought a DVD player for the car, dw's family live 2-3 hours away and we visit all too often!
Unfortunately it broke down...
We'd bought it from a Canadian company called Merconnect. They have a UK 'office' (I'll come back to that later) so you avoid paying import duty but pay the shipping from Canada.
Dw duly sent it back to the Uk office, which it turns out, is a private address?
That was the last we've seen of it!!!
Dw opted (hindsight is a wonderful thing) to send it as a normal package, not recorded delivery. Still cost her £8 though!
So the PO say that if it hadn't been delivered it would have been returned to us (we'd put a return address on) after 2 weeks.
It's three months later.
Merconnect say they never received it!
We've got nowhere left to go now.
The PO have offered us £30, for a £90 item.
So to sum up, either Merconnect are lying, or the PO are completely incompetent!!!
Either way, it's b****y annoying!!!!
Ian

How annoying :( The Post Office certainly are not up to standard these days.

Thats Ridiculous.
I agree the PO, have gotten worser over time.

I have plenty tale's I could tell you about workers, at PO, because One of our family members used to work delivering mail, sorting mail etc (he was a postman)! But I wont go into that!

I've just been to our sorting office to complain about our postie.
Last tuesday he left a parcel by the front door because we weren't in. Thing is we were away Mon til Fri at Butlins. Luckily a neighbour, further up the street was walking his dog and knew we were away and took it in for us. This is the second time that we know of!!
The manager promised it wouldn't happen again......... We'll see.

hi beth:wave:
i could also tell you a tale or two about the postmen as well::yes:: my dh is a postman:rolleyes: while i agree the post office has gone down hill lately::yes:: there are still some good and honest postmen out there and the one's who just don't care about the job are letting the rest of their workforce and the public down very badly:(

silverka2002,i hope that dosen't happen to you again and the manager of your local office sorts it out:D

How terrible, Ian:(

Having two youngsters myself I've suffered the "when are we gonna be there" nightmare of car journeys. Having purchased a portable DVD, we now only have to listen to the fight over which DVD they want to watch:teeth:

Thinking pragmatically, might it be worthwhile picking a replacement up during your forthcoming trip to Orlando? We shopped about last year and picked up one from Costco in Orlando for around $300. This wee beuty played everything (VCD/SVCD/DVD-R etc) except non Region 1 DVDs....although a hack for playing other region's DVDs has now been published :teeth: It has a 7.5 inch flatscreen, with a rechargeable battery and 12 volt lead.

To play off UK mains you will only need a step down transformer ($10 @ Belz) and the wee adaptor plug. If I remember correctly you're a teacher so possibly already a Costco member (or can become one)?

The quality is fantastic and what sets it apart from the cheaper ones at Wal Mart is the fact that it plays far more than DVDs/CDs.

Worth considering?

Alex:D

Thanks Alex. And yes, dw frog marched me down to Costco during the half term holiday!!! I sure it's worth £29, probably in very few trips for my wife!
I'll have a look in Costco, I think it's on Orange Blossom?
Also going to try Walmart and Target. Quite fancy this one from Walmart:
http://www.walmart.com/catalog/prod...cat=62055&type=22&dept=3944&path=0:3944:62055
It has two screens, but they are only 6.2". I also doubt they are multi regional...
What ever happens, I'm not travelling to dw's family until we have something! 2.5hrs of 'are we nearly there yet', starting 2 minutes from home, will drive me bonkers!!!
Thanks again.
Ian

Hi Ian....Yes large/modern Costco on OBT (altho' postal address in yellow pages is the side street its on the corner of, if you pardon the split infinitives).

I've had a look at the Durabrand Portable DVD Player with Two 6.2" Screens, Car Kit & Battery. Seems a good bit of gear :D There isn't a hack that I can quickly discover but I've noticed that other Durabrand DVDs have hacks. It's maybe too new for a published hack as yet.

For us the problem would be that it doesn't seem to play VCDs/SVCDs....but it depends on what you want to use it for.

I hope that you have better luck with the next one you purchase, although you may find nothing suitable.....particularly if it means that you can't visit the in-laws;) :teeth:

When you put it like that, I don't think I can find a perfectly suitable one!:confused3
At least that's the story dw is going to get;)
Thanks Alex.
And if I relent, I'll ask you again about hacks...
Ian

I have lost count of the number of items our post office has lost. I always send things recorded delivery now. As you said hind sight is a great thing.
