What does he have to do with any of this Iraq situation? Iraq's deputy Prime Mister is having a private meeting with him. Is this grasping at straws to prevent a war?

That is exactly what I thought when I heard it....dancing as fast as they can.. anything to avoid an attack by the US.. use whatever they have to..including the Pope.

I am sure he is worrying...my God, he has one foot in the grave, a worn down religious leader...I have no idea who set up the meeting.. maybe Iraq did to get a photo opportunity.. I do not want to turn this thread into a bashing the Pope thread... I just offered my opinion as to why the Iraqi representative was there.

The Catholic Church didn't think that WWII in response to Germany's aggression was appropriate either. I am not sure they have ever been on the correct side of the issues.

as a non-muslim(Iraqi version of muslim) the Pope would be an infidel, and someone for whom there would be great reward for killing.
Does anybody really believe that these Iraqi leaders care what the pope thinks?
