I've never done ponchos. You have to take them off rides anyway, and throw them away at the end of the day (maybe you can stretch a couple uses out of them, but they're so flimsy I'm not sure how well that would work). A raincoat has always been perfect for me because I can leave it on while it's raining without worrying about taking it on and off, and if the rain stops I can just take it off and shake it out a little. If it's still wet and I don't want it getting my bag damp I'll turn it inside out, roll it up, and then put it away.

I will say, that while we buy the cheap ponchos, I get them at Target, and COleman makes them, for $1.42 or something. I buy those over the dollar store ones because they are colored, and I can spot my little people better, but our first trip, we bought 3 each and were there for 5 days in the parks, our first set we used the whole time, no tears. So that's why I bought again for this year, though I do have backups, for if they snag on something or get stolen off the stroller.

I buy the Dollar Tree ones and then throw them away. On days where it says rain all day, I carry two so I can throw one away mid day. No worries with wet ones in bag or in room. I also wear one on wet rides so I don't feel soaked when I don't need to.
