DISboard community, lets finally put it to a good old fashioned American vote.
Who is for the ultimate in fashion waterproof Poncho?
Who is for the alternatives?

The topic everyone has been wondering about!!!!

Depends on temp and expected rain amount.

If it is warm enough that being wet is a good thing, then a wide brim hat would be my choice. Obviously I would seek more indoor activities in the heavier rain.

If I want to stay dry, then it will be the easiest to pack and carry. That usually is a poncho.

We like ponchos best. Although when traveling in the summer months, I have picked up better quality packable nylon ponchos which are more comfortable to wear. They take up a bit more room than the dollar store stuff, but sure keep us dryer. I tend to use the dollar store ones at other times of the year because they are tiny.

Ponchos are ok for me but I'd rather have an umbrella. My fiance will not wear a poncho he says it is like a personal sauna when he does.

We buy the $.99 ponchos from Walmart. But I buy a few of them for each of us. We don't reuse them. I just throw them away when the rain is over. With 9 of us, it's too much to keep up with once the storm has passed. Lol!

When I visit the parks at WDW I always carry a small backpack with me with a packable poncho that has come in handy several times.

Ponchos! On our 2011 trip we bought dollar store ponchos because they were calling for all-day rain pretty much the first half of our vacation. We found that the dollar store ponchos didn't stack up in quality (of course they wouldn't) to Disney ponchos. We got rained on for 12 hours straight at Epcot and the Disney ponchos held up very well throughout.

Cheap .99 cent ponchos stay in my purse for the unexpected occasional rain. In my luggage, I pack higher quality poncho's that I would take in place of the cheap ones if the forecast is calling for a rainy day.

I'm happy most people do ponchos, can you imagine the caos if more people were to use umbrellas at the parks?

Being an umbrella person, I appreciate your concern. I make darned sure my combact umbrella stays over my head and is collapsed and secure when not over my head. I have tried ponchos, but feel like I am being steamed alive. More comfortable for me to be soaked to the skin.

I'll grudgingly wear a poncho, but I kind of hate them. In the Florida heat they always make me feel like I'm being steamed in my own juices, and then my feet get wet anyway and it's just...sticky and gross. Haven't yet found a better alternative. That's with the dollar store ponchos, though, which is the route my parents always insisted going -- next time I go I may get one of the heavier weight once since I think it might be a little more comfortable. I get the convenience of being able to toss the poncho instead of drying it out for reuse, but the dollar ponchos are pretty much just trash bags with hoods, and they feel like it.

We use packable raincoats. They fold down and are compact to carry. I hate ponchos.

The dollar ponchos seem like they're too short too most of the time. We bought the Disney ones on our first trip and then trade them out whenever they rip (which happens semi-frequently).

Disney ponchos. We have tried Walmart ones and thrown them away, but they don't provide the same coverage. Next time I'm bringing an umbrella, too. I've been hit with so many it's my turn now.

I have a small umbrella that I bring. I can't deal with the slow roasting of being in a poncho and having everything stick to me. Last year in June, it was so hot that we gladly sat through a rain storm out side Starbucks in EPCOT to cool off sipping our iced coffees :)

Ponchos! I like having my hands free and not having to hold an umbrella. If it's not raining too hard, I just embrace the rain. It's sometimes nice when it's really hot out.

We do the cheap ponchos too. While I would kind of like to try the Disney ones, we only go every few years, so I'd rather put that cost towards souvenirs or snacks!! Our first time ever, we were at MK watching fireworks, and some woman who didn't speak a bit of English had her umbrella out and kept hitting everyone around her, including me, and our almost 2 year old. I thought DH was going to explode. I was begging him just to ignore it. Luckily she closed it shortly thereafter.
